ladytetsu Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Hello, all, I'm living in Southeast OH, USA, and have loved LEGO since I could walk. . . Actually, I have a sad tale to relate to you regarding my LEGO days, which are all unfortunately long in the past. My mother religiously bought for me out of her hard-earned money every danged pirates/islanders set ever created. I loved them. They were my babies. I washed any brick that got dirty. I fought huge naval wars all over my room, then tore them all down and built gothic cathedrals, and then rebuilt my BSB from memory. Repeatedly. At the age of 15 my dad asked me "aren't you a little old for that?" To my shame, in 2004, older but not wiser, I succumbed to my Dad's nagging little "gift" in the back of my mind - and I gave every brick away. So, I'm hoping to eventually rebuild my collection and play til I'm 63! Til then, I can only vicariously enjoy your setups and lick my lips till I get my own back! (donations also eagerly accepted, lol!) Quote
Jebediahs Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 lol I feel your pain. Similar story for me. Welcome :) Quote
Peppermint_M Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Welcome to the forum 15 seems to be the age in which parents get iffy about Lego (I resisted greatly and held onto my bricks, even if I played a little less). You will soon rebuild your collection! Mine has doubled since I started really buying sets again Have fun and enjoy the forum Quote
HumanPackMule Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Welcome to Eurobricks. Enjoy your stay. Thankfully my parents have yet to think I'm too old for Lego(age 17), so it's a good chance my collection will be used when I'm out of school. Quote
Milan Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Welcome! Do not worry, you will collect again sufficient amount of bricks, even more than before. Until than enjoy here! Quote
ladytetsu Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 many thanks to you all for the warm welcome - and for holding out hope for me!!! Quote
Ras 74 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Welcome to Eurobricks! Really sad story there. When I was younger still playing, I heard of some people giving their LEGO away and regreated it deeply later in their lives. I then decided that that is a misstake I will learn from and never do. Wish more people heard things like that, and just packed their beloved toys away for some time instead of giving it all up. Hope you will get "your" collection back eventually, and once more enjoy it. Once again, welcome to our family. Quote
VBBN Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Sad story indeed, I would donate, but I'm on a budget right now, I can't give away free lego! But if you want, I could get you cheaper prices on a portion of my collection. And I will throw in something extra, I'm a helpful dude. ;] Anywho, welcome to the boards, hope you have a good time here rebuilding your collection. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 With my parents it was the other way round, i couldn't get my bricks back for a while from my dad's house as he was keeping them for future children, afraid that i would sell it. After some nagging i finally got the collection, which i now have made 5 times as big. Now i need to think of devious ways to get my relatives Lego as well. (I know my grandma still has a lot of Lego from the 60's, but there are still grand children walking around ) Sad to hear that a lot of parents think differently, i hope you succeed in rebuilding your collection. In other words, welcome to Eurobricks! Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 I'm fortunate in that my parents are all for my LEGO hobby and they look upon it as the best thing I could be spending my time on. I think they have given up on me growing out of it. I hope you get your collection back in the near future mate, and welcome to Eurobricks! Quote
