KimT Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Now that is truly strange indeed - what's next a two headed dog? lol KimT
snefroe Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 i find it pretty disgusting that a zoo is selling animals they just don't want to house anymore, on ebay. these institutions have their own network to distribute animals to other institutions for all sorts of scientific programs. Surely they should looked for a new home for this creature thru that network, instead of selling the animal on ebay... >:(
KimT Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I had a Latvian friend once and everytime something odd happened his sole reply was: "Only in America" ;) I think this reply is quite suitable right now.
Kikuichimonji Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Aw, come on, a snake? Seriously, you actually have to take care of it after buying it for way too much money. And I bet that once you get it it'll die within a week because it (they? ;) ) can't get used to their new environement...
xwingyoda Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 Being a little green creature ( :D ) I'll do my animal rights activist !!!! I think this is such a shame >:( A snake like that needs extra attendence and it belongs to special institutions where people can deal with its abnormality !! The last thing this snake needs is to be the "pride" of a wealthy excentric megablock with no proof of that person being able to take care of him >:( *yoda*
Evil Willy Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Yoda..I know a lot of people who could be very capable of keeping such animals...And no they wont be making 2 headed dogs because a breed like this is not intentional...But if they could find two the same it could problabley become a breed... As for me I have no snakes, Just Geckos....But it is a good find indeed! And no it wont die because it is 61/2 years old! That is what is so amazing!...If you read the artivle the aquarium first payed 15000$ and is now selling 150000$

That is what is so amazing!...If you read the artivle the aquarium first payed 15000$ and is now selling 150000$ i don't even find it to be relevent who ever gets the animal. I'll assume the Aquarium will have a list of specific requirements for any buyer. i just don't think that selling any specific animal thru an ebay auction is the right thing to do for an institution, or even for private persons. worse, they're even taking a huge profit! they could have, for instance, donated it to a zoo! they've treated an animal as any other property, something you can sell without questions asked, in fact, they actually speculated with this creature: they bought it for 15000, they sold it, when they saw fit, for 10 times more... unfortunately, this is nothing compared to what happened in belgium a month ago. A woman gave birth to a child, but never wanted it for herself, she promised the baby to a couple in belgium, that paid for all expenses, in fact the father of the couple was also the biological father, then the mother decides to sell the baby to the highest bidder on the internet, a couple in Holland... unfortunately, there's no specific legislation on this subject, so the baby stays in Holland...

Reminds me a bit of that Star Trek - The next Generation Episode, where some federation council tries to find out if Data is a life form or just some "thing" that belongs to the Starfleet...
