dabulls03 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Starting in 2007, Vestas will put on four LEGO micro-shows that present Vestas turbines in different scenarios. Headlined “Wind is free”, Vestas turbines will be shown in offshore, city, desert and factory surroundings. The purpose of the airport show is to promote understanding of wind energy in a fun and educational way. In addition to the micro-shows, there will be a LEGO play table and Vestas videos, where children can play and learn about wind energy. The air show was launched at Los Angeles International Airport on 1 June 2007 and has now moved on to other selected U.S. airports. From 1 September the European version of the airport show was launched at Copenhagen Airport. In the autumn people will also be able to see the airport show at several other locations in Europe and Asia. -Vestas' description of the Vestas-LEGO Airport Show Last weekend I was at Portland International Airport's C-gate, getting ready to leave on a short, weekend holiday, when my little brother spotted this display hidden behind a coffee shop kiosk. After researching the display online, I was surprised that it had made its way to Portland, Oregon, USA, a relatively small, but environmentally friendly city. I understand that there is already a thread for the Vestas-LEGO Airport Show, (seen here), but I that thread is rather old, and I didn't want to revive an old thread. However, if a moderator feels the two threads should be merged, that is fine with me. On to the pictures! (Unfortunately, I only had my cell phone camera, so some of the pictures are quite blurry.) Some overview pictures of the display A rather blurry picture of the massive LEGO Statue of Liberty Display #1: Desert Overview pictures of the desert Close-up of the Vestas Jeep Camels carrying a wind turbine blade Display #2: Factory Factory overview Another view Factory interior Hang glider The Summit Display #3: Offshore Overview A sunken ship looking a lot like the 2009 Pirates Shipwreck Hideout Cool Helipad Wind Surfer Display #4: City This display is the best in my opinion. Overview Roof-top swimming pool Basket-ball court Pond enclosure My favorite detail; a robber being aprehended And finally, a kite flyer Don't forget to check the all important Brickshelf Folder (when moderated) for a couple extra pictures! Skipper 24 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Nice. I like these little dioramas. I like how they've done the sea scene with the seals (or walrus) swimming under water. Also the camels in the desert look great too. Quote
Thee Pirate Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Is that 8 wide truck in the Factory diorama from an official set? I rather like it's looks as a minifig semi. Quote
Milan Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Everything is nice and tidy, but I do not like non-lego terrain. Quote
prateek Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 These are all great. Contrary to Milan, though, I quite like the terrain; it goes well with the Lego vehicles and buildings Quote
Section8 Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I'm glad you posted this. I noticed this display very briefly while rushing through O'Hare Airport in Chicago early this summer. I went looking for it again during my last, more leisurely visit there but it had moved. Your pictures are very good, and I like the city exhibit very much as well. The poles for the wind turbines are not Lego bricks, are they? Quote
5150 Lego Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Wow, these are great! I like how they strapped the wind turbine blade to the camels. Very creative. I wonder if they really do that in the desert? Did anyone notice the hull of the ship in the off shore display? It looks like they took the hull of the cargo ship and cut it in half? I thought that was a one piece hull. Am i wrong? Is the hull built in pieces or could they have possibly cut it into sections themselves? Quote
Marko Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 This is good. All their scenarios are nicely done. You see Vestas is one of the possible manufacturers for the wind parks that are in planning for the island from where my family is from. Until now I have been totally against the parks but step by step Vestas with its promotion is making me to do some concessions or maybe not .. Quote
muffinman42 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 i think the ship is made by takeing the hull and makeing it wider useing bricks connected over the sides. like with a back pack, you dont cut your arms of to put the straps on you go around your arms. Quote
