I am copying this from the website. www.examiner.com

I'm not linking it becasue it gave me a weird popup so I don't want to possibly give members a virus or anything else stupid. I understand this is still just speculation but either way, we all know it is going to happen evenyually.

During the San-Diego Comic-Con, I was able to snag an interview with Steve Sansweet, the head of Fan Relations at Lucasfilm.

Q: Is there any talk whatsoever, and I'm not even going to ask for a date because I know that's ridiculous, but is there any talk about the Star Wars movies on a high definition format?

A: Yeah. I mean obviously we've been looking at that for a couple of years and I think one of the questions is when is the market penetration there and these days, will there be a market penetration before everything goes streaming? But we've been looking at an ultimate box set of the Star Wars movies, all six of the movies. And what special features would be. And clearly these days, if you did an ultimate box set and didn't do it in HD, Blu-ray, it just wouldn't make any sense. So now it's a matter of thinking okay, we've been thinking about this for a while, we know what kind of assets we want to use, we've done some work in cleaning up things, it's really a matter of making that decision of when's the best time to release it.

Do you wait and have an event because you're working off of the fact that there's going to be a new live action TV series?

All those things are very much in motion. I can say with pretty good confidence that at some point in the next several years there will be a complete set of Star Wars movies and lots of extras and deleted footage and anything anyone could want. Although I say that with some trepidation now because our fans want everything, "Why the Holiday Special wasn't on there, you ruined my life!"

But in the next few years there will be an ultimate box set and certainly a Blu-ray set.

Q: That leads into my next question. Over the years, there have been a lot of making of documentaries. In my day job, actually, I'm a documentary filmmaker and the Star Wars behind the scenes documentaries are what prompted a lot of that, like From Star Wars to Jedi and The Making of Star Wars and I've got all my old VHS copies sitting around. Are we going to see any digital releases of those either on DVD or Blu-ray? Is that even in the cards?

A: I hope so. Because I agree with you. Those have not been seen by the current generation of Star Wars fans and I think they hold up well for having been done at a certain time and certainly they are on the list for assets to be considered for an ultimate box set.

It was pretty heavily insinuated that this release is going to happen and that it will most likely be tied to the beginning of the live action series.

I think it's safe to say that we're getting what we want and it's going to be packed with plenty of extras. I'll have up-to-the-minute updates about this as soon as I can get more information. And remember that this is more information about this than anyone else has at the moment. So keep coming back here for more.

Curses. I don't want a thousand people telling me why "Blu-Ray is so much better" but I swear, I've compared the two back and forth and there is 0 difference. Maybe the disks don't scratch, big whoop. I am just going to save all of the Episodes on my DVR box. I have all of them except ROTJ now, and it will be on the 20th, thank you Spike! :cry_happy:

One day, I will have to get some stupid new piece of equipment, and don't get me wrong, I love new technology, but Blu-Ray is too soon. I actually wanted something with a BIG difference, not a little one. The switch from VHS to DVD was great, but from one disk to another? Not so much.

I currently have two computers with blu-ray disc drives in them so I can watch blu-ray. However I would like one for the tv. However I don't think it will be Star wars that makes me by a blu-ray player.

Care to share what will convert you? Or just when the price is right and the time is right.

I am converted to Blu-Ray, I just need to get a player...

I was certainly impressed with the differences (there are noticable ones when you see something in HD that you have watched 1000 times before in regular quality) What really pushed me into getting it is Final Fantasy VII ACC, and quite a few great films that I love turning up re-mastered and on Blu-Ray

What kind od TV do you have? Cause that is the biggest limiting factor when it comes to picture quality with DVD/blueray, as well as the different game consoles.

I don't want to argue with you or try to convince you that you are wrong, but I personally love Blu-Ray. I think that there is a huge difference. Of course, if you are still using on old box TV that is in no way HD, I can see why you don't want to buy one or see the difference.

Ok, so I already have a Blu-Ray player, and I love it. While I expect Star Wars to come out on Blu-Ray, I don't think it will be anytime soon. The reason is that when it is released, I am guessing it will be completely remastered with crazy special features and maybe even a few more scenes inserted. And all of that will take a few years.

Personally, I see Blu-Ray as an intermediate technology between DVD's and either everything being downloaded or movies on thumb drives or SD cards. With things like the Apple TV and Netflix streaming online, actually buying and renting physical copies of movies is going to become obsolete. And while it will probably take another 5-10 years before the transition, it will happen. Still, I would suggest getting a Blu-Ray player. While the movies are $15-20 more than regular DVD's, it is worth it. I would really suggest getting a PS3. I have heard it is one of the best Blu-Ray players. And, for only $300 you get the player and gaming system.

PS: While saving them on your DVR is a good idea, if you are recording them on channels like Spike there will be commercials and things cut from the film. These days you can get the PT and OT box sets for cheap.

And there's the problem.

Right now, I'm just fine with my 30-inch T.V. that's deeper than it is wide that I got for $25 at a garage sale. It may not be hi-def, but it works.

I don't have anything against blu-ray, but I would've loved to have something that isn't a disk that (while is supposedly less scratch-able) is still prone to all sorts of things. An SD card or like would have been better.

Plus, I hate having stacks of VHS that's unusable anywhere except for the ancient VHS player in the living room. I don't want to have to do that again, and the longer the better between transitions, I say.

That said, hi-def on a real high-definition screen is really sweet.

In other words, I'm saving up to buy a much bigger TV.

I own a PS3 and it's used very heavily for games. Blu-Ray movies are a bonus,

ROM chips cost a lot more to make, so it wasn't an option. Once production gears up Blu-ray discs will cost no more than DVDs did. It's going to be a long time before a 50 GB ROM (or flash) would be even vaguely competitive.

On a related note, I'm moving in few weeks so I'm tossing most of my VHS tapes. Here's half...

Peppermint_M you should look into the new PS3 slim especially with your final fantasy passion, VII and tactics can be bought for download via the USA PSN.

BTW you know there is a graphic novel coming.

Mr. Mandalorian, you don't need a HD TV to enjoy blu-ray, it still looks better than dvd, and you know you don't need to worry about scratching disks, just keep them away from kids, or buy the disk, keep it safe, and then download a copy of it and use that for watching.

I have a PS3 and i actually have the star wars in HD.

Not on disc or without commercials.

We all know they were on Spike in HD.

You actually do. A bluray player hooked up to a standard Television will look just like a regualr DVD.

Nope all 6 star wars movies on disk no ads, 720p resolution.

They are not Blu-ray then. Where did you get them, and do they play in a blu-ray player?. Also True HD is 1080p.

Sounds like you made them yourselves or got them on the black market, which either way is not licensed from Lucasfilms.

A PS3 is definately a valid option. I've been wanting to get one for a while, and now that it's down in price....

I might wait for actual Blu-ray discs to drop in price, as Siegfried said.

(Ugh. 'Siegfried' is too hard to type. 'Sinner' works so much better!)

I will most likely get a Blu-ray player with a PS3 slim. For some models, it is cheaper to buy a PS3 than it is a Blu-ray player! :oh:

That is very true. I just personally do not like PS3's, Playstation failed me in so many ways.

Plus I have found great deals on Blu-Ray players before. Like a Samsung with update capabilites and BDlive 2.0 for $150 Which is all you need really, it's just waiting for the deals which may hinder some.

You really do need an HDTV to enjoy Blu-Ray. If your TV cannot support 1080P then the Blu-Ray is simply not worth it. He isn't worried about scratching his disks. He is simply saying that the fact that Blu-Ray disks will not scratch is not a deciding factor for him.

Now that I know he doesn't have an HDTV, I totally understand why he will not buy a Blu-Ray player.
