Well, the Speed Racer sets weren't affected in the slightest by the movies performance, for me anyway.

Who said that the movie bombed. I was looking at the ratings and the movie did quite well. I mean it was not a huge blockbuster like POTC but, it still performed well. Especually considering the bad economy. A lot of people are out of work including myself and it is just cheaper to rent the movie from a grocery store or just buy and watch it as many times as I want.

Also, the Kingdoms line has just came out as well and that has been flying off of the shelves in my local area so I would imagine that that is going to effect the sales of the PoP sets, not to mention the new Star Wars sets and the Imperial Flagship which has just been out for 6 months.

The ratings and the box office numbers are two different things. I just checked Yahoo Movies, and the movie has grossed $37,813,075 so far since May 28th. Comparable movies have made nearly triple that in their opening weekends, like The Karate Kid, which made $106,254,000 in two weeks.

So, yeah, I'd say the movie bombed. I would expect the sets on clearance by the end of the summer.

This is Lego. It's designed to sell to little kids who don't care if the movie bombed or not. I don't expect to see it on clearance. However, that would be awesome.

In the Aussie sales I have seen almost no stock of PoP sets left and I doubt they will be restocking.

These licenses are designed for big promotion and quick sales, not hanging around stores for 1-2 years like the olden days (The olden days of like, three years ago I mean )

PoP has also seem to have a problem in Oz, the movie in cinema's is down to two screenings a day and for what I can see it the toy shops/departments it's having a hard time selling to kids. It's very hard to compete against Clone Wars and City themes that kids are so use to, I feel like Speed Racer that these will end of on clearance in Kmart and Toyworld before the end of the year. Maybe when the DVD and Bluray release happens it will be it's last big burst before the bubble really bursts itself.

So, yeah, I'd say the movie didn't bomb, and I would expect the sets to not be on clearance by the end of the summer.

If a US made movie can't make back it's budget in the US alone it's a bomb.

Who says it isn't going to make back its budget. If I remember correctly its budget was around $120 million. I would say it has come pretty close in just a month. Also, you have to compare movies like POTC which actually had very close box office numbers compared to PoP and if you take into account the bad economy I would say that the movie did not bomb.

I have noticed that people on this forum are getting more and more negative. If Lego comes out with the super popular Kingdoms line people on this forum "look" for a reason not to like about it. Even when we just had the prelimonary picture people were already trying to find reasons not to like it. It kind of turns me off after a while.

Analyzing negativity? I understand what you are trying to say but, there is a line between speculating about the future of a theme and then just being plain negative. I guess to speak more clearly I have seen a lot of people on this forum who don't even speculate, they just complain every time a new set comes out. They find something they don't like and try to go on and on about how great the old days were. And they aren't really even disliking the set they just want an excuse to complain and whine about Lego. Putting a constant negative attitude towards Lego when Lego is trying so hard to improve from it's dark age a few years ago is not a good thing. It is only destructive.

Now that I have totally gotten off topic, sorry moderators please forgive me for my sins , I will say that there is a lot of potential for the PoP theme. I remember the historic theme guys were wanting there to be some other castle-type themes beside european and well, this is it. I was wondering if there was any chance that we might see a Lego PoP video game the way we saw a Lego Indi game?

That'd be a great idea, but Lego would get their Megablocks (lol) sued off by Disney. That'd be killer, though.

Disney don't own the patents on the bricks. They just own the movie name and, probably, the character licenses, but those are exactly what I don't want to appear. I just want a basic Arabic line and the PoP line has shown that Lego can do a good job of it.

I agree- an Arabic line would be great. I just don' see how it could be at all attracting plot-wize...

I actually haven't seen that image before. I wish it were released as a separate set.

Then again, if the actual set was released as that, I'm not sure if I would prefer it. The stuff in the back is nice, but the disappearance of the horse (and also the normal Dastan) isn't really great...

Thanks whung. That's got to be one of the best Brickmaster sets to date. Can't say which one I like better; this or the Indy Jeep. Both have a minifig, rare parts, and good design. While the jeep is very versatile, this set has more useful parts. I wouldn't mind getting one of these, but it does not justify a subscription for me.

This theme for Lego is actually quite good from what I thought it would be, PoP is actually doesn't have very detailed sets, but i've bought quite a few of the sets and made a very detailed castle with the pieces. Characters aren't really all that great, just a few cool looking torso's and head gear but I think PoP is some what a waste of Lego, TLG didn't do all that great putting lots of detail into the sets.

They may not be the most detailed sets (especially Alamut seems rather empty) but they are still very good in overall design.

No way! Compared to the last three years of 'proper' Castle sets, the Battle of Alamut is brimming with detail. The palace section alone contains a dark red throne, weapons rack, pearl gold scorpion treasure table, hidden Dagger of Time feature and table with gold goblets whereas the last few castles might be lucky to have 2 weapons racks, a barrel with cheese or something in it, and a throne and treasure chest for the king. Not to mention the walls are all properly brick-built rather than use large pieces and have features like sliding panels, removable secret wall section, 2 very moderate-sized catapults and a function for dumping boiling oil on your enemies as they storm through the gates!

For 5 sets they did a very reasonable job of spreading around new designs, pieces and prints across the line. I agree that if you don't have Alamut the overall setup probably would feel a bit weak - but that's just more of an argument to get an Alamut!
