Hinckley Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 ^I expect a review now! Hmm, I am going to the LEGO Store on the 1st so I guess I'll be loaded with PoP sets. Don't hold your breath. Got the Battle of Alamut and Ostrich Race, both great sets. There are my reviews. Quote
Aanchir Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I think the camels can be just as useful, if not more, as the ostriches . Show riding and running is two of your examples that camels certainly are raised for, don't know why you said they aren't. Camel racing has a huge interest in many countries and I'm sure someone could make a MOC of that. More over I'm really looking forward to build a nice caravan (might be expensive to stock up on the camels though) and they could of course be used in a zoo, a circus or as a tourist attraction in a resort MOC. Since camels were (and partly still are) such a great part of the Middle East and North African culture and nature I think that the release of them in LEGO will open up many new possibilities to make more realistic MOCs from those areas. As I said in my post, in the eyes of the public. People don't think about camels as very versatile animals. A LEGO zoo would be really awesome, and I have to admit that before now LEGO had not too many "zoo animals". They still lack some of the staples that they've had for a long time in Duplo-- animals like lions, hippos, tigers, etc. I had hoped for a circus train set in IJ so we'd get some of those neat animals, but I was very surprised to find that some of our best new animal molds came after IJ ground to a halt! In a circus camels would be cool, although it'd be even neater if someone like Brickforge made decorative camel accessories for that purpose. After all, the typical horse accessories won't fit very snugly with that hump in the way! Of course, the fact that there haven't been any elephant accessories for that purpose makes me kind of doubt they'll do that, but then again the elephant came with a decorative blanket in the set, so it didn't need all that much more. Jack Bricker Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I do have the say that one thing I would have liked Lego to make for this theme and the Indiana Jones theme is a cobra. I know that Lego likes to keep its parts at least somewhat generic but, an actual cobra instead of the rattlesnake would be really cool. Also, I agree that the camels could have been made more poseable and certainly Lego could come out with another horse but, we do have a camel after all and I am really excited about the Ostriches. Clone OPatra Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I got Battle For Alamut today. It came from a TRU, at the correct US price of $80. Quote
Svelte Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I got Battle For Alamut today. It came from a TRU, at the correct US price of $80. Ooh, review! I am glad you went over your usual limit for this one Quote
gunm Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I ordered a couple Desert Attacks from S@H w/coupon, but I'm going to wait on the bigger sets until the next TRU or other sale. I wonder if this theme's popularity will exceed the movie, as the early previews of the film have not been especially favorable. Quote
Svelte Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I wonder if this theme's popularity will exceed the movie, as the early previews of the film have not been especially favorable. They haven't been especially anything, considering the limited info on the movie. We have 2 months between the release of the sets and the film itself to worry about how the movie is going to end up. Let's just enjoy the great sets for now Quote
UsernameMDM Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Looks like the minifigs from the Ostrich Race, Fight for the Dagger and Hassassin's Hideout/Desert Ambush set made it to Bricklink. The spiked shoulder Hassassin looks a bit less spiky, which I like. I'd like a lot of those shoulder armors for my castle guys. Quote
DarkFader Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 All these PoP sets truly looks interesting and they seem like a good replacement of the Indiana Jones line. I look forward to a review of the Desert Attack set which looks like a set i'd get. Quote
ziljin Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Not sure if I want the PoP sets. On one hand, there are assassins and persian warriors, camels, ostriches, and Middle eastern structures. On the other hand, kind of expensive, fleshies (I never purchased a Liscenced set before), and they may never make middle eastern themed sets again thus I wouldn't be able to build upon the collection like I can with Castle, and the money I spend on PoP sets would mean less money I can spend on castle sets. I will probably get a few Desert Attacks for the assassins, and the horse though. Quote
CDC Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Sets are already available in my country, Slovenia. Ima buy em all as soon as i get some money Quote
Pirate Pete Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I just bought and built the "Fight for the Dagger" set and wanted to say a few quick things (since I don't have a camera and can't make a review): Pros: Brand new figs, all with new headgear Beautiful Middle Eastern look to the building Gold quarter dome pieces 20 of the new inverted slopes in a new color camel Cons: kind of small and cramped if you take one of the boxes off of the camel, he tips over 50 pieces short of TLG's regular price/piece ratio All in all, this is a wonderful set and I would suggest it to anybody! Any questions? Quote
CMP Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Just called TRU for availability, and I'll be back in a few hours with a review of fight for the Dagger, maybe also Desert Attack. Quote

CMP Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Nevermind, the customer service guy screwed up, no sets in stock as of yet. Quote
xilefsson Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 (edited) I heard that the prince of persia sets won't be available in germany. in austria, we usually have exactly the same products available. Will they arrive here later or never? Edited March 27, 2010 by xilefsson Quote
Christoph Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I heard that the prince of persia sets won't be aviable in germany. in austria, we usually have exactly the same products avaiable. Will they arrive here later or never? I read on imperiumdersteine.de that someones has asked a Lego store staff. They said the sets will be at least (I don't know if only) available in Lego stores from June 2010 on. For me that's good news! Quote
ziljin Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 What are the chances of there being another wave and having Persian Warriors in a cheaper set? Quote
Derek Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 What are the chances of there being another wave and having Persian Warriors in a cheaper set? Slim to none, unless this wave flies off the shelves... Quote
Jack Bricker Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I seriously doubt that there is going to be another wave and if there was they would not have battlepacks. Quote
ziljin Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Well they don't have to be battle packs, but something like the Desert attack except with Persian warriors instead of assassins. I guess I will have to purchase Battle of Alamut just for those three Persian Warriors. Quest against time is the only one I am not intersted in. But I guess I could get it for the grey slopes to make cliffs in the future. Quote

ziljin Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 It's based on a movie, remember. Right, so I guess I will have to be satisfied with 3 Persian warriors, and get some desert attacks to get the printed horse, assassins, and dastan for the dual katanas and katana holders. Maybe some ostrich races for the naked torso. Quote
legitimatealex Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I just visited both my local Target and Wal-Mart in the US and both are now stocking and selling Prince of Persia sets. Only had enough on me for the $10 set though : \ I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere or if it is news but I just thought people should now know they can check just more than Toys R Us for PoP : ) Have a nice day.
