Is anyone else having problems with the Dagger of Time? It's like... The normal LEGO knives. When a fig holds it their hand leaves marks!

Not me...

It's a bit late too post it right now, but I've just figured out that the average price per piece ratio is 10cents, which is very good for licensed themes!

I mean a Star Wars set featuring like 350 bricks usually costs around 50€...

I very much like the new tan bush and other plants!

Just watched the movie and i haven't seen the scenes from Lego sets.

In the movie, there was no desert attack scene, except the attack of hassansins, but there was no spears and gems. Also,Dastan hasn't rode the ostrich.Fight for the dagger set was based on the battle with Asoka, but there wasn't any market stalls and towers. In the scene with dungeon of sands there was no traps(or i missed something),except falling rocks. And,there wasn't claw and scimitar hassansins,Dastan on camel nad Seso with catapult in Alamut attack scene.

I'm guessing one of two things happened.

1)You the movie you saw wasn't Prince of Persia.

2)The designers took quite a few liberties.

I'm leaning toward #1.

Well I personally hope that means more PoP sets to come!!! Since you did see the movie did you have any inspiration for MOC's or did any scenes look potential Lego sets! I so gotta see the movie!

Don't lean too hard: you'll fall.

I've also seen PoP: the Sands of Time last week.

And what MantaMan says is perfectly true. To add to his observations, I'd say camels were in the shot for about 2 seconds (as part of a jumping stunt), there was no crossbow cart, the palace and Dagger of Time storage looks entirely different, the saw and scimitar traps seen in the Quest for Time set are nowhere to be seen.

Anyhow, #2 would have been a better guess. In actual fact, I don't think it was Lego designers taking liberties so much as them just not having access to the final print of the movie.

Remember, these sets were designed months ago, WAY before this movie had left the cutting room and probably also even before Disney had finished shooting all the scenes. The Lego designers were probably just provided with a couple of character photo's and costume photo's, an unfinished storyboard and some preliminary art, and they were then told to use their imagination (and inspiration from the computer games) to come up with a couple of sets in the correct price ranges.

An interesting example is the picture below, featuring Lego art for Sheik Amar: a preliminary minifig design which eventually was dropped, probably because Disney decided to change sheik Amar's look in the movie (he did look too much like a Hassansin)...

Most of the Lego characters, including the Hassansins, are featured in the movie, but the minifig which is identified as Gool in the Battle of Alamut reminds me a lot more of the character of Garzin, Dastan's step brother. And the so called Alamut guards are in fact most likely based on the soldiers in Dastan's own Persian army!

@Alldarker: I don't think that the scrapped minifig was supposed to be Sheik Amar since both minifigures were displayed at the toy fair last july (it was at the Comic Con if I recall correctly). It's true that TLC referred to this character as "Sheik Amar" when the product page on lego.com went online, but I guess that was just a simple mistake. Besides, the unknown Hassassin minifig was supposed to be part of the "Dessert Attack" set while the sheik belongs to the ostrich race. So they're clearly different characters and TLC got rid of the Hassassin for unknown reasons.

OK, I wasn't aware of that but it certainly makes a lot of sense! Too bad, it's a nice minifig head... Hope we seen it again some day, if Lego keeps the PoP license for more movies.

Correct.

If the Lego designers were just coming up with ideas they thought would be in the movie, then an ostrich race is a damned strange assumption to make.

Yes, the sets were designed before the movie was done, but TLC is using some imagination. What fun of a set is a guy racing on an ostrich with Danstan on the side or a cave with some shiny stuff. Traps make it a temple set, apealing to more people. Just my opinon.

Just in case it has been overlooked, there is an official alternative building instruction from 7572 and 7573, which should come from LEGO Club magazine. However, I saw this in Amazon.com, and the soft copy of the PDF instruction can be found here: PoP alternative building

Thanks Alywin! That alt build isn't as cool as the entries in our contest but still good

I went and saw the movie today and it was much better than I expected  A solid, entertaining romp with a great mix of humour, action and adventure without being too long or over-the-top. It looked very solid and real too for the most part - not too CGI-ish - and it was lovely to see all that amazing Arabic architecture. I thought I would dislike Gemma Atherton from the trailer, but I really enjoyed her banter with Jake Gyllenhaal and to see a strong female character on screen! I don't know why so many people are giving the movie such a tough time - it's supposed to be a fun adventure and it is! The costumes and locales were beautiful and it was one of the rare films where the use of a 'wind back time' device actually didn't ruin the plot and was well-integrated.

As for the LEGO sets - I thought the designers did a great job in capturing the essence of the movie and adding to the play value. The minifigs and animals are especially great - the Hassansins are perfect (especially Gool and that one-eyed dude) and I loved that Dastan's horse in Desert Ambush was in its blue livery for most of the film. The Alamut set manages to include the gate, boiling oil scene, and the beautiful white and gold Alamut palace (and even its sloping exterior stairs), not to mention all the parkour elements which feature prominently in action sequences. Sure, there's no giant saw as a trap, but the rest of the Quest Against Time was pretty good too, and I love that Nizam inserts the dagger and lights up the Sands just as we see on-screen.

Actually the most disappointing aspect for me was that the Dastan fig we get in most of the sets really looks nothing like the outfit Jake wears onscreen

I wouldn't have minded if we saw some figs of Dastan's brothers, too.

All in all, enjoyable film and great sets!

I also saw the movie a little while ago, and enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

In relation to the LEGO sets, it's obvious the set designers had to go with very little info from the actual movie. I recognized all the sets from the movie, but none of them were very accurate.

Well, Dastan wears the brown armor in the battle at the beginning, but I also would've preferred to see the robes he wore for most of the movie on the minifig as well.

I wouldn't have minded if we saw some figs of Dastan's brothers, too.

I think the "Gool" minifig from the Battle of Alamut set is supposed to be Garsiv - there's really no other character that looks like that in the movie. Maybe they changed his name during the production, and forgot to inform TLG about it.

That's good to know! Without the LEGO sets this is a movie I might have overlooked, but they gave me a great incentive to give it a try, just to see how it compares to the sets! This could be great inspiration for future MOCs anyway.

But I can't go right away, I have promised 'someone' to see Sex and the City 2 first! :hmpf::tongue:

I would agree that makes sense except that the Story page on S@H lists him as Gool the Hassansin too, and there was *one* character in the movie who wielded a scimitar.

SATC2 features a mostly desert location (Dubai), a creature who wishes it could turn back time for its own purposes (Sarah Jessica Parker), lots of CGI work (Sarah Jessica Parker, again), and terrifying man-eating snakes (Samantha!) so you could probably just see one and pretend you saw the other

Oh, dear middle aged over sexed women in a country that would throw the book at them !

Sounds like a good idea for another contest, lego-ise a movie theme, eh ?

Anyway, back on to PoP, I haven't seen the film, but I did buy a 'book of the film' book for my son, and yes, why isn't his brothers (of course Dastan is actually adopted by the king) in any of the sets ?

I would say to the custom minifig guys and girls, go your hardest and create his brothers, eh ?

I'm a conformist! everyone ! :sweet:

It will be great,if lego make some new sets on January or February 2011 with some new hassansins, warriors and Dastan's bros.

P.S.Strange,but my link to the instructions of 7572+7573 doesn't work.

I read that too, and it's obvious the hassassin descriptions are made up by TLG, not being related to the movie at all (they weren't named in the movie either).

The fact remains that this "Gool" is wearing Garsiv armor and has his face as well, so in my eyes he's Garsiv.
