David Thomsen Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Since it's still utterly speculative as to whether there will even be a Pirates of the Caribbean lego range, this is nothing but speculation upon speculation... but it's fun to think about. The Black Pearl Obviously the range would have to include this set. I imagine it would be slightly smaller than the Brickbeard's Bounty, but cost the same, since it's a licensed set... Isla de Muerta interior The cave filled with treasure and the chest with the cursed money in it. Jack and Barbossa and the rest fighting. Kraken Attackin' Obviously a proper kraken, and not just an octopus. It could include the small ship the kraken first attacks, I think it was a fishing vessel. Tia Dalma's Shack Filled with Voodoo goodies and including a rowboat with the Pirates in it. The Water Wheel The one that rolls across the land while the three pirates fight in it. Smuggler's Island Jack and Elizabeth trapped on an island with rum hidden inside it. Escape From Prison Jack in a cell with a dog and a key and a bone. Will Turner can break him out, and a removable wall in the adjacent cell where the other pirates escape. Fight in Port Royal Tortuga The Dauntless The Interceptor The Flying Dutchman The Endeavour Shanghai Pirate Ship Shanghai Chase Indy escapes from... I mean, the Black Pearl crew fight the Shanghai gangsters... I mean pirates. The Chamber of the Pirate Lords Cannibal's Village Governor Swann's Mansion Fight in the Forge Jack and Will face off in the first movie. The island prison Jack escapes from at the beginning of the second movie. I forget what it's called. That's all I can think of for now. I can count at least seven possible ships there, and two port towns and a mansion that could be combined to make one big port town. Edited September 20, 2009 by David Thomsen Quote
Ratshot Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Your going crazy with all this POTC stuff. I know very little about Pirates of the Carribbean but some of these set ideas are pretty good though. Edited September 20, 2009 by Ratshot Quote
David Thomsen Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 Your going crazy with all this POTC stuff. It's my way of dealing with no new Pirates sets in 2010. I need something to look forward to so I make it up if I have to. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Interesting set ideas. I doubt we'll see the Endeavour or the Dauntless (I doubt we'll even see POTC) and if we did they would be very dissapointing. I would say there might be 2 ships: the Black Pearl and the Interceptor. Quote
Thee Pirate Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I actually imagine the "water wheel" set would use a modified version of the Troll battle wheel. It's definitely a workable concept using existing pieces. I'm also pretty sure a POTC line would include scenes from both the movie and the ride. On those lines, I'm sure your escape from prison idea would be a sure fire set, and there'd be one where the mayor or something was getting dropped in a well over and over again. That well set would actually be pretty cool, it would probably have some nifty play features on a 12X12 base. Tia Dalma's Shack and Fight in the Forge would also be kick megablocks sets. I'd definitely get those just because they're bound to have some sweet pieces in them. Quote
Edgehead Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 while your set ideas are very interesting David, i would be more inclined to think that the new sets would be based on the new film - there for the only one on your list i would predict would obviously be the black pearl. also i doubt there would be 7 ships released in the one line. i would bet on 3 at the most, the pearl, the dutchman and one of the imperial ships. Quote
Raphy Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Personally, I'd love a POTC line. Only, I'd like to make a custom Jack Sparrow fig before they release it Quote
saberwing Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I like the ideas of your sets but I don't think we'll get Isla de Muerta. (Too many accessories) I would say there might be 2 ships: the Black Pearl and the Interceptor. What about the Dutchman? I think that's one of the most important ships in the movies. Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I don't think there will be a POTC-line but it would certainly be awesome! I'd love to have the Dauntless or the Interceptor, 2 very beautiful ships And the other ideas look also very good Quote
curtisrlee Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Shanghai Pirate ShipShanghai Chase Indy escapes from... I mean, the Black Pearl crew fight the Shanghai gangsters... I mean pirates. Its Singapore, not Shanghai =P I still don't feel like seeing POTC lego anyway But those are pretty good ideas Quote
Diamondback Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 They'd have to be ccareful, though... many of these were already done by [unmentionable Competitor] when they had the POTC license, which may be grounds for a copyright-infringement suit, in addition to the legal question of whether or not that license and its doubtlessly-there exclusivity clause are still in effect. Sorry, I'm not seein' LEGO sail into shark-infested waters without making sure all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed first. Quote
Tom Bricks Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I think that the majority of the first wave would be like the first Indy wave, with allot of sets from the new movie. I think we could see some nice buildings and ships if this line is real but the figs would be to weird for me. Quote
curtisrlee Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) Hey, I'm supposed to be in the pirates forum but I guess this will fall under "Licenced" Do you guys think there will be a Lego POTC? PS can somebody turn this into a poll? and oops, I created a duplicate Edited October 1, 2009 by curtisrlee Quote
BrickMonster MonsterBrick Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Never. Two words, MEGA BLOX. They have the license, and so, LEGO can't do it unless it expires. Although I must admit I've never seen any of the POTC movies. Quote
Commander Assassin Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 (edited) Never. Two words, MEGA BLOX.They have the license, and so, LEGO can't do it unless it expires. Four Words. LEGO HAS DISNEY LICENSE. PotC is made by Disney, thus the license travels with Disney away from M**a Bl**ks. However, this doesn't mean that Lego will want PotC, or that PotC will want Lego. As the trilogy, (I sure hope ) is over, I doubt that they will release sets based off of them. Edited October 1, 2009 by Clone Commander Assassin Quote
Shadows Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Hey, I'm supposed to be in the pirates forum but I guess this will fall under "Licenced" Nope. IF LEGO decides to go with a PotC line to replace Pirates, it will be discussed in the Pirates Forum, not in licensed. As a result, all speculation on that matter will also be discussed there. Any PotC topics that appear in licensed will be moved to Pirates, just like this one. Do you guys think there will be a Lego POTC? Fleshie pirates. PS can somebody turn this into a poll? and oops, I created a duplicate Doesn't need a poll, it needs discussion. Without a poll, people can express their opinions, with a poll they just vote and run. We like discussion. As for the duplicate, it's gone. Quote
insanerobo Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 As the trilogy, (I sure hope ) is over, I doubt that they will release sets based off of them. Its not over. there making Pirates... 4! Quote

Erdbeereis Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I've merged the thread asking if you think LEGO will come out with POTC sets with the possible POTC sets thread. Please continue both discussions in here, thanks! Quote

Three words: BREACH OF CONTRACT. Also, if LEGO designs are too close to Brand X's, two more: COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. Disney owns the POTC IP, but the overall engineering they did for their products is still owned by Brand X. CCA, what's your legal ed. like? I did several Law classes in college, plus a few back in [voice=El Rushbo]haaagh-screwel[/voice]. Disney may have licensed Lego to use a lot of their IP, but unless they've specifically served Brand X with a Notice of Termination, they're setting up a conflict and a breach-of-contract suit. Really, we'd have to see the contracts to know what all is or is not included, and those are probably under lock and key in Billund and LA, never to be seen by the likes of us Mere Peon Customers. Mata Nui Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 There will be some cool pieces. Including the Voodoo heads. :P But, original pirates would be better. :D P.S. I think there were POTC sets but not LEGO, it was MegaBloks if I remember correctly. Quote
Admiral M Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Though it is mostly wishful thinking, here are some sets I would really like to get from the first movie. I tried to make them possible and the prices realistic, because we all know they will be outrageously expensive if POTC is to be released. If you haven't watched it, you probably won't have any idea what I'm talking about, but anyway: Isla del Muerta: Cave, 2 normal chests filled with tresure, dark bley chest in the center with the cursed gold, Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Barbosa, And 3 undead pirates-$35 Fort Charles: 2 fort walls, fort tower, 3 cannon, 4 redcoats, Governor Swann, Commodor Norrington, Jack Sparrow.- $60 Port Royal: two houses (Will's blacksmith shop, Inn) , slightly smaller than midieval market village, dock, crane, dinghy, 3 redcoats, Norrington, Jack, Will, and 3 townspeople- $90 Governor's Mansion: 3 rooms, built like a doll house- includes dining hall, entry hall, and Elizabeth's bedroom. Well decorated interior+exterior. Includes a Horse-drawn carriage, Governor Swann, Elizabeth, Will, and 2 redcoats- $60 Rumrunner's Isle: Includes Jack, Elizabeth, 3 palm trees, Rum Cellar-$15 HMS Interceptor: Similar in size to the old Imperial Flagship, 2 guns on either side, 1 midsection, and the prominent yellow stripe. Well-decorated stern, and partial upper deck which can be covered by "grille" pieces. Includes Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Joshamee Gibbs, and 3 redcoats- $70 Tortuga: similar to port royal, but alot less organized- includes a tavern, a covered stable, a one-level house, a dock, a dinghy, Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Joshamee Gibbs, 2 pirates, a bar maid, and 2 pigs.- $90 HMS Dauntless- 6 guns, 3 midsections, removable top deck, well-crafted stern and cabin, prominent yellow stripe crossing gun ports, 3 masts, headrails+prow, realistic shape. Top deck features dinghy, ships bell, capstan, and steering wheel. Cabin is on the same deck as gun deck. Includes Commodore Norrington, Governor Swann, Elizabeth, Will, Captian Barbosa, 3 redcoats, 2 undead pirates- $160 The Black Pearl: 8 guns, Four midsections, Angel figurehead, Well crafted stern and cabin, Mostly black, 8 deck/swivel guns, detailed cabin, realistic shape, 3 masts, removable deck. Includes Jack, Barbosa, Will, Elizabeth, Joshamee Gibbs, 4 pirates, and 3 undead pirates- $200 Quote
Tereglith Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Goodness Admiral M, you come up with all these lovely ship sets but forget... the Interceptor! It would be a small ship with one deck, Jack, Will, a couple soldiers, probably a play feature where you can make the mast swing around and belt Will one in the gut... plus, since it's so small, it would only be 40-50 dollars! I could afford it! :DDDD (there isn't a pirate smiley to express how happy I would be about a cheap ship that isn't a dinghy) Edit: After I got over my euphoria, I also realized that you forgot the three SW style battlepacks - eleven dollars each with 4 or 5 figs as well as some sort of filler model that's about sixty pieces. We get one for Jack's pirates, one for Davy's Skellies, and one for Norrington's Soldiers. Another Edit: I looked up Mega Bloks (they haven't even got a proper website as far as I can tell, I had to go to target.com) Pirates of the Caribbean. They stopped producing new sets a long time ago, and from the looks of it, it shouldn't be too hard for LEGO to make designs different enough that it's not copyright infringement - the sets were crappy even by MB standards (I know, right? What standards?), and most of them had heavily <insert that tiresome argument> pieces, the likes of which wouldn't be used by lego for a full-fledged theme. I think that if they want to do it, they're safe to. Edited October 15, 2009 by Tereglith Quote
