So to change the subject a little from the cancelation of the pirate line I figured I would propose an interesting question that I have been thinking about for a few days.

If you had 1 of every 2009 pirate set (and a bunch of cannon battles) and you had some extra money to buy 1 more set from the line what would it be. I was looking at everything and I can't decide. Lets assume for this that price is not an option and this will be the last 2009 pirate set you buy. Leave out the re-sale value of the pieces or the set, this is strictly for your own use.

BB is wonderful but I don't see a great reason to buy a second one. It does have some cool parts and minifigs but I dunno.

Soldier's fort is what I'm leaning towards. I can think of a bunch of cool things to do with the modular pieces and it does have some cool minifigs as well.

Shipwreck hidout is nice to have 1 but I think when it comes down to parts the BB has everything and more except the female pirate.

Loot island is bleh for me. I bought it to get the minifigs and to have all the sets but I really dont see a use for 2 of this one. Although the baseplate is interesting.

Kraken attackin . . . 1 is plenty.

Lets assume we have already had our fill of cannon battles and the impulse sets. Please explain your answer a little maybe to discuss some parts or playability you like of a specific set.

any way we could get a poll mods? :pir-blush:

I would suggest another Brickbeard's Bounty or Soldiers' Fort. I would suggest another BB for MOCing, more sails, more masts, more hull parts. I would also suggest Soldiers' Fort because I think that it was too small. A few slightly modded modular sections wouldn't go to waste.

Interesing topic! :pir-sweet:

I actually found myself in the same predicament and I ended up buying another Soldier's Fort. It's got a good assortment of soldiers for your collection and I was able to build a few MOCs to make the fort more complete. Since it's all Lego, you really can't go wrong buying doubles of any set, but that's the one I'd go for. However if you bought another Brickbeard's Bounty, you could mod it to make it bigger and add a deck etc. There's so many possibilities, but it's all good either way.

I've been pondering exactly this thing lately. I usually only buy one of each set, but with the cancellation of pirates, I'm wondering what I could double up to make my pirate world a bit bigger. I'm the sort of person to build things exactly according to the instructions (yes, I know, it's boring, but all my creative energies are directed elsewhere) so it would have to be something that doesn't look odd in duplication.

For that reason I'd go for Cannon Battle and Soldier's Fort. Theres no reason my army can't have two cannons, and the Fort could always be somewhat bigger.

If I had to choose one of those, it would be Cannon Battle since two identical cannons is perfectly normal, whereas the Fort might ending up looking a bit repetitive.

I would go either BB Bounty or the fort.

I would ask myself this question:

Do I want a bigger fort or do I want to take BB Bounty and try to turn it into a soldiers imperial ship?

Agreed. You could put all the Jolly Rodger sails on one ship and all the other sails on the other ship while replacing the pirate flag with the flag from soldiers' fort to turn it into a redcoat ship. Personally, I would go for a second fort though and throw all the parts together to make some buildings and towers, maybe while retaining the set's bases. Or just MOC around one copy and attach it to the standard set.

Along this line of thinking you could buy 2 forts for the price of the ship and build a really nice sized fort with lots of good Figs.

Either BB or the Soldier's Fort

I think I'd go for the Soldier's Fort even though you get less bricks compared to price.

I have a few of the other ships from the classic line, so I wouldn't need another BB to MOD my first BB (if I had had one) - but a Soldier's Fort would benefit greatly from an extra copy, so I could MOD them both into something even larger :pir-classic:

Well I am fortunate enough to own several copies of each set but I'd probably buy another Soldier's Fort followed by another Bounty followed by a pirates hideout...In fact since Toy's R US is having a Buy 2 get a third free sale right now on Lego pirates and I have to buy two Soldier's Forts sets for the winners of the tournament I am going to do that today and will be picking up one free for myself! I love it when things work out all cool like that.

What a dilemma we have here, and one that I have being thinking about since the bad news from last week. Which has prompted me to start to buy the Pirate Lego which will soon be denied to me from this, shortlived, but truly outstanding theme. So today I bought Kraken Attackin, soon will come BrickBeards Bounty, the Advent Calender, together with a mix of extra copies of Cannon Battle and the Soldiers Impulse.

My main interest is in MiniFig's so I have not, or will not, buy the Fort (the funds being put instead towards building a small army of our beloved friend The Redcoat), as I will have a Governer alongside many Redcoats already.

So to the horrible dilemma which Lego has thrust upon us with their mistaken decision to crush such a beautifull theme. Initially I thought a 2nd Brickbeards Bounty, to MOC into a Redcoat Ship, but then you could always do this with the collection you already have (although these two ships could never fight each other). Then of course I thought maybe, with the £50 I might spend on a second ship I might buy 20 copies of Soldier Impulse, to create a nice formation of soldiers. But that would be cheating the question.

But the most sensible, given the boundaries of the question, would be of course a second copy of the Soldiers Fort, as this would give you a decent sized Fort and Redcoat garrison which your Brickbeards Bounty could attack (and of course win?). The sides could be switched and the Brickbeards Bounty made up as a Redcoat ship which could attack the fort, now occupied by the Pirates (and of course loose!).

It is a sad state of affairs that this question needed to be asked.

I think that Brickbeard's Bounty would be the best option, because you can combine two of them to make a larger ship that can actually be a formidable the Imperial Flagship. :pir_laugh2:

Just look at these measurements for the sets:

Ship measures 22" (56cm) long and over 17" (44cm) tall!
Measures 29.5” (75 cm) long and 23.6” (60 cm) tall!

If I could have one more, I would go for Brickbeards Bounty because its the only ship in the new pirates series so far and also because all the other sets dont really feature anything that I would consider as being very interesting. They are all rather simply build.

But thinking of the prices this isnt very likely to become reality since none of the sets gives very good pieces for Mocing (in relation to what it costs) and I currently need every cent I can get for a almost minifig scale 80gun sotl :pir-blush:

I'd probably have an extra Soldier's Fort, just to make the fort bigger. It looks pretty small compared to what the Pirates have, but after we get the Imperial Ship, that'll all change :pir-grin:

Brickbeard's bounty for sure!

I got this set for only 1 week, and boy, what do I love it!

My second option will go to soldiers fort, so that my fort will be bigger. :pir_laugh2:

I got all the other sets, and I think one of each is enough.
