AwesomeStar Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Well, as you can see, I haven't got round to editing the pictures yet. Too much coursework, I'm afraid. My apologies. However, a couple of weeks ago I was browsing my local The Entertainer store and saw the ONLY Brute Chopper on the shelf. Acting on sheer instinct, I quickly shoved it straight to the back behind a zillion UNSC Turrets and Covenant Ghosts. A few days ago, I went in, pulled my hiding place aside to find it was still there, so I went and bought it. For £10, it was total bargain, and unlike my UNSC Warthog, which I have since swapped out as many black plates as I could for their Lego counterparts (nothing major, and now it's super solid), I had NO problems whatsoever! I'm thoroughly impressed by the set, and I WILL do a review, I promise. ~A.S. Quote

I have almost every set from the first series, and some from the second, and I swore to myself I'd produce reviews of them. Unfortunately, aside from the Limited Edition Steel Spartan, I have reviewed none of them... I'll TRY to get around to them some day. Hehe... Quote

I too aim to collect them all, but so far have only picked up the sets that are interesting on the whole - I picked up the Warthog first because it was relatively large set, so I had something to play with, featured both Covenant and UNSC action, and was extremely iconic. I picked up the Brute Chopper because a.) it was the only one there, and b.) I believe it is from the second wave, and I wanted a UNSC Marine anyway. Both are lovely, and I think next time I might get the UNSC Hornet. I have wanted to get that for a while, but refrained because of the specialized pieces - if some don't fit, then I can't always replace them with Lego. ~A.S. Quote
hollisbrick Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Well the other day I got the the turret and ghost. They are both good although the turret is a bit flimsy. I also have battle unit 1 and 3 and thats when I wnounted some problems battle unit 3 wasnt so bad with this but the quality of the figs from unit 1 were very mediocre. the grunts were good and the purple elites were alright but the flames marines and the blue spartan were kinda shitty upper torso is fine but there legs are very flimsy and unstable. Especially the green flame marine, it rattles and shakes! Have you guys encountered these problems? Quote

The Eye Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 It's funny, I was thinking what if someone else liked HALO MEGABLOCKS? And look where we are now! I just posted a review of Aerial Ambush if anyone's interested (the set with the hawk and banshee). Quote

I just posted a review of Aerial Ambush if anyone's interested (the set with the hawk and banshee). Yeah, I had a look at that. Nice review I have lusted after that set but it requires me to save my money - something I'm not good at. The set I'm most excited about is the Shortsword - it's my favourite Halo vehicle of all time. But the Pelican is frankly a work of art from MB. I wonder when they will be released? ~A.S. Quote

CMP Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 You have to admit the larger range of poseability for the megamen are decent, but I will stay true to Lego. Quote
AwesomeStar Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 You have to admit the larger range of poseability for the megamen are decent, but I will stay true to Lego. Oh, the figures are incredible. Beautiful detailing, new molds for each new unit (character) and very, very Halo-like. In comparison, minifigures look like a chubby guy with jaundice. Not the greatest summary of a Lego figure, really, but there you go! ~A.S. Quote
AwesomeStar Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 I seriously hate double posting, but seeing as this is an MB-kind-of-fan thread, there isn't a great deal of activity so I guess it's up to me to update it once in a while. Today I purchased the UNSC Hornet set from my local Entertainer. And yes, just so you know, I did get dodgy looks from every parent and member of staff in there. But that may of been because I still had my hood up from the rain outside. Golly, some people stereotype so much! For £15, I personally thought it was a bargain, considering the box is the same size as my UNSC Warthog box, so I expect the same sort of size set, really. However, the Hornet in-game is fairly small next to, say, a Scorpion. In the set, however, this thing is HUGE! Well, it isn't huge as in bigger than me, but it's a decent size, and has a pretty hefty wingspan. It really is a beautiful set, very accurately designed. To be honest I do wish I'd picked this set up much, much sooner. Sadly, I was put off by the fact that the set does contain quite a number of specialized pieces, which if were missing or didn't work right, would render the set useless. There was always plenty of Hornets on the shelf, taunting me, but I'd have to look away. Today, though, I finally plucked up the courage, mainly based on the fact that I didn't want to buy a UNSC Turret (fairly poor design, too many Spartans - I need more aliens!) or a Covenant Ghost (good design, but for £11 I felt it wasn't really worth it, and there wasn't any UNSC forces in the set as well) and that the only other sets from the series were the horrible Spartan Knights Kingdom II-ripoff construct-a-figs and Aerial Ambush, which is ridiculously overpriced at £29.99. So I bought the Hornet, and I'm so glad I did. Along with my UNSC Warthog and Covenant Shade Turret, Brute Chopper and small UNSC Turret, I can now really have some decent battles, which is what I think is most important. While a lone UNSC Marine defends the Covenant forces from an over-turned Warthog and flimsy chain gun, the UNSC Hornet comes thundering in, chin-cannon blazing and Spartans riding on the wings, their leader in the cockpit and armed with SMGs and a Shotgun. The Elite, Brute and Grunt forces have no chance! Overall, this set is definitely the best set in the line that I have purchased thus far, and I'd recommend if you are a Halo fan, you buy it. I'll post pictures of it along with the Warthog, Chopper and Turrets when I can get round to it, as I'm snowed under with art coursework! ~A.S. Quote
GoN2Broadway Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I also have been occasionally keeping check on this tab - While I love Lego products, I also have enjoyed many of the products that MB has brought to the public which Lego would never produce. While collecting these sets, I have in the past noticed slight quality issues - not in the pieces in general but in the fact that occasionally a large piece would keep popping off other smaller bricks. With that in mind - I also bought the Hornet from the first wave - I noticed that still had some of the lingering effects of MB bricks popping off - and while I agree AwesomeStar that the vehicle looks wonderful I was a little frustrated with how the bricks kept popping off. Regardless, I still enjoyed the set a great deal and still bring it out quite often (when I'm in a Halo mood). The set I wanted to mention on this thread specifically though is the MB Halo Pelican that is out/coming-out. First of all - I want to start with I SERIOUSLY LIKE/LOVE this set. Why do I like this set so much? First of all - I had no quality issues in this set - something that made me extremely happy. Second - my wife was VERY happy with how long it took me - almost two days (not straight though obviously ;). For a Lego product at this sets price cost I would have been done in about an hour. This ship is 99.9% brick built - something that I know many people still appreciate. The only truly specialized piece is the cockpit, and that would have been created in a Lego set as well. I can't say how impressed I was with the build - it was very enjoyable and I know I got my money's worth. The finished product looks just like the in-game vehicle and I just can't stop playing with it. Incidentally, with a little modification, I could also get the Pelican to attach the MB Halo Warthog to the back of the craft. I doubt this was meant to happen, however, I was able to get it to work with minimal modification. If you see this set in store, and if you are not opposed to buying MB - I HIGHLY recommend looking at this set and seriously considering it for your collection. You won't be disappointed! Quote
vexorian Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 (edited) Here are pics of the set http://www.megabrands.com/Shop/MEGA_Bloks/Halo/Halo_UNSC_Pelican_Dropship_96824/ . Indeed, when mega actually try to have a good design they do a good job, that's impressive. The minifigs though are a huge turn down for me. Plus I am still unable to find a mega-selling store in this place (I did find pirates of the caribbean in on, but mega did an awful job in those in comparison to HALO). I also wonder if I would buy it instead of a large space police set for the same cost even when the LEGO set would have half the pieces (I am aiming towards Hyperspeed pursuit right now). Also that's more green than I would really need, so piece count is not as helpful to me in this case as the cool design. I am personally more impressed by this: http://www.megabrands.com/Shop/MEGA_Bloks/Halo/UNSC_Shortsword_96835/ except for the ugly one-piece cockpit+canopy :! Edited July 29, 2010 by vexorian Quote
