CP5670 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 New space police game on Lego.com click here to play galactic city getaway. I think SP III is still going strong and it's definatley plaussible for new sets in 2011. The previous game was a walk in the park, but this one is a bit harder. It took me a few tries to beat it. You can apparently move in all 4 directions, but the ship moves up and down so slowly that you can effectively only move left and right. I've got 3 or 4 of most aliens, it doesn't make much sense but I'm limiting to 1 Brick Daddy and Craniac. That gives the group some stable leadership, and I don't have to make up some ridiculous story to justify 2 bosses haha. I've sort of done the same thing. I only have one each of most of them, except for Rench and Squidman. Quote
KurttKrueger Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Problem with the VX Falcon is it doesn't come by itself. You get 2 more skull twins and another street machine thing with identical marks and scratches to the other one you already have... Otherwise I'd buy a few instead of just one. Galactic Enforcer is too big to have 2 of, (there'd be more police than the rest of civilisation), for a similar reason there should only be one base and the Gold Heist ship looks silly. That leaves the small sets and Undercover Cruiser as the only fleetable police ships. The Max Security Transport you could have a few of I suppose, but the price of it has gone through the roof due to its limited edition-ness. I've got 3 or 4 of most aliens, it doesn't make much sense but I'm limiting to 1 Brick Daddy and Craniac. That gives the group some stable leadership, and I don't have to make up some ridiculous story to justify 2 bosses haha. (As opposed to before, where I had 2 Squiddies, 3+ of just about everyone else. How do you explain that? Who is the leader? etc.) Their ships/vehicles have far too much character to multiply, so other than the small ones the only one I have 2 of is the Smash n Grab (because it was on special, and because I wanted more than 1 Squidtron who I thought cooler than the original). The Lunar Limo is quite something, and the SP Central is really good too. Have fun with that! Surely it'd be easier to part out the VX Falcon and order the parts seperately through Bricklink? I would imagine the cost would be around half of what you'd pay for the whole set, so that works out about right. I did a similar thing with the Batmobile last year. I paid a fraction of what the whole set would have cost me. In terms of the smaller sets, I picked up the Raid VPR along with the Space Police Central yesterday, and I have to say, I'm very impressed with it as a small fighter. It looks much better in real life than the pictures indicated. I bought it for my son, but now, after having built it, I'm contemplating buying a few more copies to have a small fighter squadron. All in all, I'm really pleased with the 2010 Space Police wave. Next on my to buy list is the Lunar Limo, but after having bought the Space Police Central and the Raid VPR during double points week, I know have enough points to get the Limo for £25, so pretty pleased about that. I'll probably skip the Undercover Cruiser (as I tend to favour the BHG), but other than that, I'll have the whole 2010 wave. Seriously contemplating creating a Space Police comic... Quote

That's the problem with SP3, all the stickers & all the new pieces make it difficult to get all the bits for a half decent price. I'm not too fussed, there are so many different sets for the fleet that I've made up for it with them.Yeah I bought another Raid VPR last night for some reason at Myer's 20% off toy sale. At least I resisted from buying another big set. That would've been overkill to the max. Only thing is I'm getting quite a number of these Rench characters, but neo-Blacktron outfits you can never have too many of! I would've gotten a 3rd Undercover Cruiser last night but I decided there's too much SP3 in terms of large and medium ships/vehicles in my collection. The 2010 sets are much better than the 2009 sets. Less stickers, better police minifigs (new full helmets, red visors & more airtanks), better aliens (3 are repaints, but they're better than the originals), more hinged cockpits, more purple & trans yellow, better secondary ships... despite having less prison pods than last year. Here's what I have (not set aside MISB): 3 Raid VPRs, 2 Smash n Grabs, 2 Undercover Cruisers, 1 Lunar Limo & 1 Space Police Central. Add them to last year's swag and it's big. I really like all 5 sets. Quote
CP5670 Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 I like the Raid VPR a lot too, and it is indeed a good set to make a fleet out of. It looks sleek and is one of the very few sub-$10 space sets ever to have a fully enclosed cockpit. Rench is one of my favorite aliens so I don't mind having a bunch of them, and the torsos are also useful for Blacktron minifigs. Quote
Apollo Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 In this day and age, it would be cool to have a space theme with aliens and humans working side by side for a common goal, on both good and bad teams, or neutral,or whatever TLC may choose. I believe that in Life on Mars both the humans and Martians were on good terms, despite the latter Mars Mission theme... If Space Police III continues into 2011 (which is entirely possible, but not traditional), I would like to see civilians of the Astro City world... and the introduction of human baddies is always welcomed in my book I do love all of the Insectoid references within this theme, and while I was skeptical about Craniac being one at first, he is slowly growing on me... there is even an Insectoid logo on his back!! I just hope that another classic theme is revamped next year, or makes a cameo just as Blacktron, Insectoids and M-Tron (kinda) has! Quote
feanor Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Grr...! And in Germany the 2010 SP III sets are still nowhere to be found! It seems that they will come eventually, as they have appeared on online shop lists but with mentioned availability around August to October.. why?!!! Quote
vexorian Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 (edited) I'd rather have alien goddies than human baddies. Is it so hard to make one of the officers in those sets with 3+ officers to have an alien face? I mean really... I like the Raid VPR a lot too, and it is indeed a good set to make a fleet out of. All this discussion made me realize how awesome the set is. 2010 sets won't come here until November / October if I am lucky, but when they do I hope getting three of them. The ship looks like will increase in value once you have more than one, and the "blacktron 3" bodies are a must have for me. All blacktron I ever had were two blacktron 1 figs from two space police 1 sets, but I lost them :(, it is time to get a blacktron gang... Edited June 26, 2010 by vexorian Quote

Artanis I Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I just hope that another classic theme is revamped next year, or makes a cameo just as Blacktron, Insectoids and M-Tron (kinda) has! M:Tron? Where? Did I miss something? All blacktron I ever had were two blacktron 1 figs from two space police 1 sets, but I lost them :(, it is time to get a blacktron gang... Blacktron I was the best. The only truly tough looking characters. Despite only having 1 set (Invader) as a kid I had plenty of these guys, as minifig pack 6703 had 2, 6704 had 1, and (most) Space Police I sets had 1 each. Blacktron III is something I want to do for sure. I may look at updating some of the Blacktron II ships to match the current style. Can't wait for the new space helmet to be released in black! That helmet would be killer. It would bring out the EVIL in me. The angry eyebrows...Galactic Enforcer, be prepared to be ground to dust... Quote

I think he's referring to the M:Cola add in the second SP3 video (Can't remember what its called, Police Chase or something). It's styled after the M:Tron logo. An Ice Planet logo can be seen in the distance also. Of course, I could be wrong, but I've seen no M:Tron referances in the sets I own so far. Quote
Aanchir Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Yeah, M-Tron is one theme that really didn't get any allusions in sticker sheets or the like. Of course, that's partly because most of the "easter eggs" on SPIII sticker sheets referred to villainous space themes (not sure where Insectoids fits on the good guy/bad guy spectrum, but clearly the creepiness was enough for it to qualify for a place on bad guy ships). I think a revival of Blacktron would be cool, but unfortunately there's a problem with it: LEGO has shown recently that they've found more marketability in two-faction themes, with themes like Space Police III (police and crooks), Mars Mission (astronauts and aliens), Power Miners (miners and Rock Monsters), and Atlantis (divers and mutant sea creatures). So if there were a new Blacktron theme, the sets would have to include an opposing faction as well. Best way I see that happening is as a continuation of SPIII (possible, but would it still use the SPIII name or Blacktron branding?), or the introduction of a new faction-- possibly civilians, although it's been a long time since we've seen a "civilian faction" and it would prevent the inclusion of flick-fires and blunt shooters (two popular action features) on one of the factions, leading to tiresome one-sided play. I'd love to see a villain faction like Blacktron or Spyrius return, but as it is, I doubt it will happen unless the Space Police III brand persists. If SPIII doesn't persist, I'm not too confident that we'll see the new theme set in the same universe, at least not at face value. Quote
Tony Almeida Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 SPACE POLICE III: RISE OF BLACKTRON. Hmm, too long for a theme name. Quote
M:tron engineer Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I've recently finally bought last missing set from M:tron line, and i must say that i miss "good old days". I've always liked them for their civilian role and great sets(mega core and particle ionizer are my favorite). I would be more than happy to see them in new sets, and im sure many others would be happy too. I dont see problem with blactron reintegration in current lego space at all. Those villains wore BT uniforms(slightly modified but still), so they could be just street thugs or something like that(trying to impress others with allegiance to blacktrons). I just hope if they'll ever reintroduce blacktrons, that they will use default color scheme(black/yellow with possible tr yellow windshields and visors)and not some other. This way SP III would get worthy opponent and AFOL would be happy to see blacktrons(and also have police vs. bad guys just like 20 years ago). Quote
Aanchir Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 SPACE POLICE III: RISE OF BLACKTRON. Hmm, too long for a theme name. Last night my brother actually suggested a cool name-- "Space Police: Code Black". "Code Black" would be written in the same font as Blacktron II's logo, and placed under the normal "Space Police" banner logo on box art. Sounds like it could work. And it could probably work-- after all, don't crime shows get spin-offs all the time? Meanwhile, I think Rench (the SPIII alien with the Blacktron uniform) might actually be an official Blacktron member hired as a thug by the Black Hole Gang. The info we've heard about him certainly makes him sound like he's not a regular member of the gang, but rather just hired muscle. The thing to keep in mind about Blacktron, though, is that Blacktron isn't just a generic villain faction-- it's a spy faction. I actually made a Blacktron MOC recently using LDD/DesignByMe that's supposed to be a light spy craft, and since then my brother and I have put a lot of effort into trying to design Blacktron MOCs to go with it. Not much progress yet, but after the recent DesignByMe palette update with summer Atlantis parts, hopefully we'll come up with something brilliant. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Anyone else think these new Space Police vehicles look a lot like the stuff the cops in Batman Beyond use? Now that I read about Lego Universe mode for LDD, I'm gonna try to recreate some cruisers! Quote

spanks_4 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I really have enjoyed the SP3 set. It is my first Lego purchase in the past 10 years since I sold all of my original collection *still kicking myself for that!*. I have the entire SP3 set and have most of them put together. I hate the stickers, but it is part of life I guess. Anyways it has been a blast building them, but does anyone know if they are releasing any more this year or if they are done with it? Quote

Besides the three summer sets (Lunar Limo, Space Police Central, and Undercover Cruiser), I don't think there will be any further Space Police sets this year. However, it's still a mystery whether or not Space Police will continue into next year or what might replace it if it doesn't. Quote
KurttKrueger Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I just got hold of Lunar Limo yesterday. What a fantastic set! Thoroughly enjoyed the build process, and was still suprised at how long it is, despite having read that it was. Very swooshable, and very awesome! Quote
spanks_4 Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 I put the enforcer together the other night and was disappointed by how small it was compared to some of the cheaper sets. Quote

vexorian Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 ?!?! Are you talking about the Galactic enforcer? In that case, which cheaper sets exactly? Cause I've seen pics of it next to minifigs and I can't think of a cheaper SP3 set that is larger than the galactic enforcer. Quote

spanks_4 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 It is a big set, but it just feels small compared to what I was expecting. I was speaking more on length than actual width/height. Just figured it would be longer. Quote
CP5670 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I don't know what you're comparing it to. It's one of the largest flagships TLG has made if you take into account the engine pods on the wings. The only bigger ship is the Explorien Starship, but it's a lot more spread out and the construction is not quite as solid, with the piece count being lower as well. Quote
