Until we get some better pics, feast your eyes on this Behind The Bricks look at the SP animations:

*snip*

I always start drooling when I see footage of of the Lego model shops! :cry_happy: I wonder if he can keep the bricks he got from there. If so, I would have come out of there with all the boxes I could carry.

What I really want to know though is how the heck this guy got the honor of doing these animations for Lego?! (Not saying he doesn't deserve it, but I really would have wanted to do it. )

Thanks for posting that Oky Wan! :oh:

I was drooling a bit too, it's just too hard to resist just looking at all those bricks there.

It's also interesting that the stop-motion LEGO Space Police logs aren't produced on a professional studio, but instead just inside a bedroom! The picture quality of the logs are just so good.

The Space Police site has updated with new bios.Squidtron is a robot! :oh:

http://spacepolice.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx

Nice! Pity Rench's Blacktron affiliations haven't been referenced as anything more than a cameo (much like last year's graffiti like "I <3 Insectoids"). But who knows; maybe once the theme expands some more Blacktron can be a veritable faction, even if it remains restricted to a part of the Space Police theme. We can always hope.

Not that I'm one of the folks nostalgic for Blacktron-- I missed its heyday (I started as a LEGO fan around 1995), and never quite learned what organizations like Blacktron were about besides, of course, being The Bad Guys. I mean, Spyrius was spies, and Exploriens was some sort of exploration team, and Space Police is obvious, but other space factions' goals and ideals weren't so self-evident.

I do hope LEGO does manage to branch out in revamping the classic space themes and archetypes for a modern audience-- Space Police has impressed me so far!

I've just noticed something. The cyan alien appears to have a pale yellow spike or something on its head. The eyes don't seem to fit squidman either. From the front, part of his eyes are covered by his eyelids (for lack of a better word) and part are uncovered, but the cyan alien seems to have his eyes fully exposed, unless the picture's from an angle.

Still, I can't really tell if it is another recolour or not, but there does seem to be a coloured spike.

The new aliens look like Squidman and Frenzy reskins to me.

It's interesting that Rench is the "hired muscle" and Kranxx is the leader. I would have thought it was the other way around. You would think Rench's apparent Blacktron connection would make the others respect him more.

Yeah, but being Blacktron makes him not part of the blackhole gang, plus I always picture Blactron as having mercenary agents as well

nevermind

Could you create a link to the photos? Pretty please if they're new.

BTW close up pics of the astronaut and robot from the new minifigures line. I wonder if we'll see any of these parts in upcoming space police sets.

Just bought Gold Heist and Smash'n'Grab yesterday. Gold Heist was surprisingly not a letdown, despite not being airtight and having way too many hinges for its own good. The gold-picking-up mechanism is not too impressive, and doesn't work perfectly, but the main structure of the set (for instance, the cab and engines) is brilliant (if you can line up all those hinged parts properly, that is). Enough about that-- this isn't exactly the 2009 Space Police topic.

Smash'n'Grab is just as awesome as I expected, and maybe more. I was worried based on pics and store displays that the back would look flimsy, but it's actually not nearly as bad as I feared. The purple is wonderful, and the ATM closes up a lot more securely than the safe in Gold Heist. Speaking of the ATM and safe, one disappointment is how large the space is for those two dollars (in Smash'n'Grab) or two gold bars (in Gold Heist)-- I'm still in love with the tiny safe from Hyperspeed Pursuit that securely holds three gold bars!

A criticism I've seen of Smash'n'Grab-- that it has too many colors-- is from appearances, totally justified in regard to transparents. The transparent purple and transparent yellow work wonderfully with the color scheme (and I usually don't demand that transparents match solids). Even the transparent bright orange flick-fires work nicely, resembling part of the headlights. But the addition of transparent neon green 1x1 round plates on a side-blaster (I'm assuming it's a blaster) and on the engines throws everything off. Ideally the ones on the engines could be trans. yellow, and the one on the blaster would be trans. bright orange. I wouldn't tmake it trans. yellow because based on the rest of the set that would seem to be for glass and lights only.

Squidtron is neat, and makes sense as a robot in my eyes. Perhaps he looks more organic than my favorite robo-pal from Space Police, the robot K-9, but he's much less organic-looking than Squidman with his tight outfit. Still trying to identify where that chest-logo is from-- after all the cameos in SPIII, I can't expect LEGO to do anything superfluous when there could be a past-theme-reference hidden.

Space Police looks good so far, and hopefully once my other sets are shipped up to college I can do some serious MOCing!

I'm so bummed the minifigures are going to seemingly be hard to get.

yeah... Really looking forward to either a recolour of Frenzy or a new alien head. But sadly, the only promise is coming from expensive looking sets

Their part of a collectable minifig series (8683) thats to come out around June, here's the brickset link.

www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8683-1

These are two of the very best space/sci-fi (or otherwise) themed minifigs I've yet to see.

As long as Lego has the tooling they may as well release them in a proper theme of their own, and with that awesome laser gun.

But I want many of these!

The new sets look ok to me. The dragster looks like their still needs to be some work done to it (and it's called Citadel of Orlan, but it's prelim). Looks like we'll be getting a purple fedora though, which is awesome! Great for Joker figures.

I want to see that new bad guy mold head up close. It looks like a Jedi I remember. Annoying though that it's the only new head mold, and it's in all the sets. Seems like Space Police is already winding down to me. As Kris Abel seemed to think, Atlantis is replacing it as a focus for LEGO.

I really want to like the ships, but the parts used just kills it for me. I gave wave 1 from 2009 a fair chance, but the abundant use of technic panels and massive slopes turns me off. Yes it makes the ships look sleek and futuristic, but I would much rather these be made up of smaller pieces and wings with studs on them.

The base looks to have a lot of play value. I want to say that it looks very sterile (perhaps simple due to the colour scheme?), but yet there are a fair amount of greebles... so I guess I can't really put my finger on what the problem is at the moment.

I look forward to seeing more of these sets, but I highly doubt I will pick any of them up.

Citadel of Orlan! Hahahaha! That's an odd placeholder name.

The new alien looks nice but I'm not sure about the vehicles. It seems odd to have such a massive space-limo and the Police vehicle looks like a LAAT with cropped wings. I'm sure kids will love the SP3 station but it looks a bit lacking design-wise to me.

That bad dude in the limo set... purple fedora... definitely got the makings of a pimp. My brother keeps asking me what that makes the other alien in the set. I'm trying not to follow that train of thought.

Not sure if the limo's windshield is trans. yellow or trans. neon green. LEGO's certainly all over the place with the bad guy color schemes this year.

The "transport vehicle" in the base seems to use that weird curved piece that's used on City trucks these days as a windshield. Which is pretty epic, if you ask me. Also, red skull twin? Interesting...

That base is definitely Poolside Paradise meets Space Police, though at the moment I'd say Paradisa is the winner...

Put Space Pimp from the limo set in the Paradisa set and suddenly it all makes sense :oh:

space pimp is so cool, If i get that set it will be for the figs only, It might be my eyes plaing tricks on me but is that the biggest one this year. LOTS OF PURPLE!!

This wave looks fantastic!!! :cry_happy:

From what i can tell the Space Pimp is by far my favorite alien lego has released! The Limo and HQ are both definite must-haves!

edit: also worthy of note, anyone else notice there is a possible SPace Police chief? The one in the HQ riding the small vehicle is wearing a set of pirate pauldrons in black.
