axalonark Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I was going to build the Limo first however the Undercover cruzer was already opened (tape was on the inside flap. Good news is nothing was missing. Build took one episode of X-files season 1. So about 45 minutes, probly quicker if you arent watching tv. The villan is impressive for its size. The cruzer is front heavy but well designed with the transformation gimmick. My only crit is it's a big ship with an itty bitty cock pit with no controls or detail. The minifig just lies in there. Jawson's speeder More heft and firepower then some previous villan crafts. SPIII Cruzer. Most of the part are in the front. Almost feel like its a chariot...horses pulling the cart/engines pulling the cockpit. Cargo Ship Looks more solid. the void under the Cruzer when transformed to the cargo ship. The Extras: on a side note: can someone explain the frog that comes with the SPIII base? Seriously I do not get it. Quote
Delta 38 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 nope. NO printing.but it' interesting ot note that the new head has tentacle hair molded at the back I see. Like I said before, totally fine for me. I can still use it regardless of printing. Maybe I could make a statue? If there is a hat, torso and legs in that colour, it might be a nice addition. Wow, people are getting the sets already. We haven't even had the Raid VPR or Smash and Grab sets here yet, to my memory. After much thought, I think I will get the base so long as I can afford it. Quote
Aanchir Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 on a side note: can someone explain the frog that comes with the SPIII base? Seriously I do not get it. According to a sticker on a container inside the base, it's a "sniffer frog". What's it sniffing for? Drugs? Bombs? The trail of a fugitive crook? Take your pick, but it's a rather cute concept, regardless. Quote
Carefree_Dude Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 im in the process of building the sets. I got the undercover cruiser done, part of the base done, and am doing lunar limo now. Though it doesn't say he is an insectoid anymore, the red alien in the base has an insectoid sticker on his flyer, and has an insect like mouth. Quote

krystalKING Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Yes there is a sniffer frog, but it's green.Crainic has two axe gun's and behind the platform is a target practice area. Quote

TheShnomon Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 (edited) That's a shame. I wish it was in another colour.Does this mean we get two transparent blue axe pieces? Yeah, it comes with 2 of those. And the Space Police alien "targets" oddly remind me of District 9. Also, on Craniacs back there is a small gold Insectoid mark, which is pretty damn cool IMO. I couldn't be much happier with this set. Edited May 20, 2010 by TheShnomon Quote

Glad to know the preliminary name was chosen for a reason rather than being a totally random reference. What's his face like? With that helmet on, the "Insectoid" name didn't make much sense to me, since there's nothing all that insect-like about the Skull Twins' helmets. But if he actually has an insect-like appearance (or even just an oddly-colored humanoid appearance like the Insectoid figs did), then that's really going the distance. Quote

TimToyGeek Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I found several of the new sets at Toys R Us in Hawthorne, CA today. They had: Space Police Central Undercover Cruiser Lunar Limo Deep Sea Striker Atlantis Portal Divers Mobile Base Lavatraz and several World Racers - I saw the speedboats, swamp boats, snow machine and big truck/dune buggy sets. I almost went with the speedboats set (fish cannon!) but I bought the Lunar Limo because it looks amazing in the package. It was over $40 at TRU, so it'll probably be $40 at non-TRU stores. I haven't put it together yet, but from the box it looks like the roof is fully hinged, there's an opening trunk (they show the included SPIII officer stuffed into the trunk!), firing technic cannon in the front, long dual front cannons, and Brick Daddy's little speeder with gatling gun. BD looks amazing, very 70s crime boss alien with a purple zoot suit and zebra lapels. The overall look of the limo is very sleek and ornate with lots of gold flourishes and what looks like lots of interesting sticker work with scrollwork detail in gold and purple. I can't wait to put it together. The Undercover Cruiser looked like fun, I will probably get that next. The Deep Sea Striker is underwhelming. The mobile diver base is pretty nice, it folds up into a sub kind of like an older playset. I didn't see any bagged MF collection, nor any of the new SW sets yet. That particular TRU usually gets Lego sets earlier than other stores. Tim "toy geek" Quote
TheShnomon Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Yeah, that Tarantula face is pretty badass. I haven't gotten around to building the Limo, I just took the minifigs out. I'll get to it tonight or tomorrow. Also, for you MD folk the Essex TRU got these sets along with tons of new stuff, they are(as always) just a bit more expensive. Picked up a World Racer and a bunch of Minifigs. Quote
Delta 38 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Yeah, it comes with 2 of those. As I've just noticed in CopMike's review. I'm not too fond of those pistols, so I may switch them for the guns commonly used in Star Wars sets. This is a rather hard decision, because the base costs $130 or so, which is a bit more than I would have liked. I think I still will get the base, though. Quote

If you haven't noticed from the info on the left, I live in Australia, where virtually every set is more expensive than it actually should be. This is also why I make my decisions based on price, as some things are similarly priced, while some others are worse. Of course, I'm talking about Australian dollars here... EDIT: Oh, and the set isn't out here yet. Edited May 22, 2010 by Delta 38 Quote
TimToyGeek Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I built my Lunar Limo today, I may get some pics later. It's a great kit, and a fun build. It's the first time I can remember where the build was split so that the first two bags built up the first half of the ship completely, then the third and fourth build the back half. Brick Daddy is as cool as I expected. I think his head may be glow-in-the-dark. It looks like he has either dreadlocks or tentacles on the back of his head. There's back printing too, a zebra back belt. Very 70's Superfly. The head's a bit small, but the great purple fedora makes up for it. I think he must be intended to be the boss of the aliens, as most of the other aliens either wear masks that look a lot like his head (the Skull Twins) or have an emblem on them that looks like his head. The limo is amazing. One of the tightest, most elaborate ships I've built, it's probably more than 2 feet long from front cannons to tailfins. Lots of gold and purple trim, smooth lines, curves, and it's airtight when finished too. The roof opens, the trunk opens and you can fit the SP officer in the trunk. I added a 1x3 brick to the end of the trunk lid so that it fits flush to the back of the car, and I had to add another hinge piece to the roof, it looked like there was supposed to be two originally. There is a lot of room in the limo, Jawson has his control cabin with two control sticks and a computer (sticker), and Brick Daddy has room to sit either attached to his speeder w/gatling gun, or not attached to it. The hood ornament is indeed a gold version of Brick Daddy's head. The sticker for the back license plate reads "Brick Mamba" which I guess is the car's name, kind of like "Zumbi" was the Skull Twins' car's name. The engine is really nice, there are 8 goblet pieces as the pistons, and the supercharger piece is hinged and can lift up, though it doesn't have any function. The technic launcher is really well integrated into the car body. One thing I noticed is that it would be really easy to modify this into a land vehicle - there are wheel rims (two in the front, one in back on both sides) and the engines/gun pods on both sides are easy to detach. If I had the proper sized wheels I could probably turn this into a heavily modified land limo. There are a lot of parts that don't show, and a lot of them are purple, there's a lot of purple in the build that's not exposed. A lot of red, too. For that and the tons of gold pieces, I think the Limo is a good deal, especially since there's a pretty high piece count (391) for the price. True, there's a lot of little pieces, but overall the build is very solid and secure. The only pieces that tend to be a bit weak are the side fins, and that could be easily modified too. TheWarden Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 I built my Lunar Limo today, ... and that could be easily modified too.Tim "Toy Geek" Wow, thanks for the info. I'm hoping to get this set and you make me want it even more. It looks AFOL-tastic! You could certainly turn this well written write-up into review with a few pics. No reviews for the LL up yet. My purple bricks are woeful; do you know how many are in the set? Peace. Quote
TimToyGeek Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Purple pieces: According to the back of the instructions, there are 2 purple cones (in the rear engines)< 6 purple cheese slopes, 3 2x3 tiles, and a full 8 1x8 tiles. That's what makes it seem like a high purple content, those 8 stripes. Not a huge amount, but used well. I did one further mod - I removed 1 of the cylinder pieces each from the four struts holding on the side gun pods. This doesn't cause any problems with the structure of the limo, and makes the gun pods a bit more flush to the side of the body. It helps pull in the design, and make the pods seem a bit less delicate. The four extra cylinder pieces found their way to the bottom of the limo to be VTOL jets. I tried to do a mod where I swapped out the side pods and rear jets for wheels, I used the gold wheels and fat tires from my Batmobile set, but it's not as easy as a simple swap, I'd need to rebuild the limo a little bit more to make it a land vehicle. Still, though, considering there are six fender pieces and lots of easy connection spots, it shouldn't be too hard to modify the Lunar Limo into an LA Limo. Another easy and fun mod is if you don't want to have the technic missile in the front, you can detach just the gatling gun part from the mini speeder, and it easily nestles into the hole in the front for the missile. It fits flush and looks menacing. Still working on pics... Tim "toy geek" Quote
Madcat2000 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Something about the purple fig with the space limo screams "space pimp" , thought I doubt thats what they were going for. Considering the music even young kids listen to nowadays(I've seen a rap CD with things like humpty dumpty on it, and not thats not a euphemism) you gotta wonder how many kids would make the same connection. Quote
TimToyGeek Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I actually have no doubt that Lego was going for a space pimp vibe with Brick Daddy - the outfit is a purple suit with zebra lapels, which is vintage 70's gangster/pimp style, like in the movie Superfly. The limo also is very 'pimped out' with some 70's era details like the tail fins with cone taillights, and the boomerang antenna on the back - when was the last time you saw one of those? I wound up 'borrowing' Gold Tooth's golden pistol for Brick Daddy, it's a suitable weapon. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention - his head is glow in the dark! Gotta love that! Tim "toy geek" Quote
Oky Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Hello there! Just letting y'all know that all three sets are available at the Lego Store in Downtown Disney, Anaheim! I wound up 'borrowing' Gold Tooth's golden pistol for Brick Daddy, it's a suitable weapon. I can imagine! Good call, I'll probably do that too if I get him. By the way, which minifigs are you guys planning to use the ray gun of the collectable Spaceman fig for? Its cartooniness makes me think it would be a good weapon for Squidman/tron. Quote

If only there were a trans-yellow bar for the beam...Brickdaddy looks crazy cool. Quote
Delta 38 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Yay! I've just spotted Smash and Grab at a store! It seems like the new wave is finally trickling into Australia. I was concerned that they may have skipped the Raid VPR and this set. Quote

Delta 38 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 had em here in NZ via online stores for about 4 months wonder why aussie didnt get em I'm pretty sure they were available online here, but I hardly ever buy things from online stores. I took a quick look, but I only saw this set. I'd imagine they would have put out the Raid VPR set first, but it's a bit early for their sale. That said, I hope it's still there in two days... Quote
