vexorian Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) I sure hope so! If not I'd really like a Spyrius revamp they're awesome! I would only settle for an "Ice planet vs. Spyrius" revamp theme. :) Edit: Though do I REALLY want that? If that ever happened I would just not be able to avoid spending all my money on LEGO sets. Artanis I Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) ... an "Ice planet vs. Spyrius" revamp theme. ...and it could have a new monorail...Considering that SP3 has been reasonably received I think there'll be at least some space next year, how much I don't know. Possibly not much. New subtheme/faction? Maybe. I doubt there'll be more SP3, other than maybe 2-3 small sets to finish it off (but there's already quite a range). A new (or renewed) faction would be a big step - are Lego willing to continue Space 2.0? edit: it kinda says "we're going to do this for a few years, not just a couple as a novelty" Anything could happen of course. KurttKrueger Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 (edited) I'd love to see a civillian faction introduced into the Space theme next year. Maybe City in Space, or even a revamp of Futuron, with peaceful Space exploration (although, it could be argued that the Lego Space timeline has advanced with SP3, and the planets Futuron discovered back in the 80's have already been colonised). After all, the Black Hole Gang really do need someone to commit crimes against and terrorise! Edited June 16, 2010 by KurttKrueger Quote
feanor Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Is there a way we could start a petition for the continuation of Lego Space? I hope SP III sold well enough to make Lego consider it. It's normal that AFOL's, whose childhoods lie in the 80's and 90's, have an interest for the second wave of Lego Space, but what about children? I had a family with children invited for lunch the other day and the children were allowed to play with my Galactic Enforcer and Max Security Transport und they were well aware of the theme even though, to my knowledge, they don't own any Space Police sets. But it's a small indication that the second wave of Lego Space has gained some recognition. Maybe the exhaustion of Lego Star Wars will probably mean that Lego needs to stick to Lego Space... hopefully! Quote

But it's a small indication that the second wave of Lego Space has gained some recognition. Maybe the exhaustion of Lego Star Wars will probably mean that Lego needs to stick to Lego Space... hopefully! Trust me, I doubt LEGO is going to stop having space themes anytime soon. I don't see the point of petitions-- they're difficult to organize in a way that they offer meaningful insight. After all, LEGO's fanbase is enormous, as is their target audience. Obtaining signatures from a statistically significant portion of that population would be next to impossible for anyone without the financial strength of the LEGO Group themselves. And therein lies another problem with petitions: LEGO does their own research via surveys and focus groups. There's really nothing a petition could tell them that they won't find out on their own. Meanwhile, I don't see how Star Wars has ever really been "in the way" of Space themes. The only change I know LEGO Star Wars brought about was the revelation that story-based themes were strong contenders in the public eye, which led to themes like BIONICLE with a well-established, character-based story. Even Space themes might have taken some influence from LEGO Star Wars in this respect-- after all, LEGO Life On Mars (which debuted around the same time as BIONICLE) had a specific "cast of characters", with each alien and astronaut having a different personality. People seem to think the failure of one theme will somehow allow similar themes to flourish. This isn't true-- as has been explained to BIONICLE fans, if BIONICLE's replacement line (Hero Factory) fails, it will only show that constructible action figures are unmarketable, and there will not be any similar line to take its place. The same could apply for Space and Star Wars-- if LEGO Star Wars ceases to be popular, it could indicate that space themes in general no longer captivate LEGO's audience, and thus Space might not have a chance for quite a while. Generally I agree but the difference in Star Wars is that inevitably the theme will die out (like any other lisenced theme) as there are no new designs to be interpreted from Lego, without this necessarily meaning that Science Fiction/Space exploration will simultaneously become unpopular. I am no child of course but for me it would be hard to imagine a Lego line-up with no spaceships anymore. It would be a first after almost 35 years. Let us hope it won't be the case. Quote

Whatever story has been explained to bionicle fans, bionicle vs. other themes is not the same as space vs. star wars. Do not forget that the first time space was scrapped coincided with the beginning of star wars... My greatest fear would be that SP3 was just a homage for the 30 year aniversary, I really hope space continues. KurttKrueger Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 New Space Police commercial! Straight from the source! That is very cool indeed. The fact that TLG are putting commercials out there for SP3 sets is an encouraging sign I would think. Thanks for posting it! Quote
sok117 Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Wow, nice commercial, definatley gives me hope for next year. I liked Brick Daddy's laugh and Jawson right at the end. Quote
feanor Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Hmmpf! I miss the Undercover Cruiser in this ad. Let's hope it's coming up! Quote
CMP Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I knot it's barely halfway through the year, but do you guys think SPIII will go on to 2011? Quote

Algernon Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Hopefully yes, but I have a hunch it won't... Maybe, if we're lucky, we'll see another Space theme. Yeah, this pretty much says it all. Although personally I'd prefer a new Space theme to more SPIII. SPIII is pretty great, but two years is plenty imo. Quote

I would prefer a nice remake of another old fraction... like Blacktron 3 for an example. 'Rench' from 5981 Raid VRP is hinting that Blacktron are starting recruiting aliens! Quote

'Rench' from 5981 Raid VRP is hinting that Blacktron are starting recruiting aliens! Haha, it's "faction" ... and yes, I think SP3 is done. I have a pretty substantial looking police fleet, it rivals SP1 & SP2 for numbers already. The BHG doesn't have much of a base or many decent sized ships/vehicles (actually it only has 1 small vehicle) but I don't see them as a "fleet" faction, more a "nuisance" faction. As for the 2 years argument, how many other space subthemes (classic doesn't count) got 5 or more sets a year more than once? Futuron is all I can think of. This is highly irregular! (But I like it.) Goodbye SP3, it was okay knowing you last year, but it was good this year. Quote
feanor Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Haha, it's "faction" ... haha, I never realized this subtle difference... I always thought it was 'fraction'! It made sense to my foreign mind. Thank you for correcting me Artanis I Quote
Artanis I Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 haha, I never realized this subtle difference... I always thought it was 'fraction'! It made sense to my foreign mind. Thank you for correcting me Artanis I Easy mistake to make, very similar words in spelling. Simply put, a faction is a group of people with similar ideals or goals, and a fraction is a smaller part of an entire object (or collection) like a piece of cake or a handful of M&Ms from a packet. My Space Police Central should be arriving today, so the fleet is getting quite large now, with the Galactic Enforcer and VX Falcon already owned. However, I particularily enjoy the BHG, and have most of their large-ish ships. Just the Lunar Limo to go now! Really excited to see what 2011 brings as far as Space is concerned. sok117 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 New space police game on Lego.com click here to play galactic city getaway. I think SP III is still going strong and it's definatley plaussible for new sets in 2011. Quote
Zarkan Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I agree with people who want a revival of Blacktron - however, with TLC's insistence on making good guys vs bad guys sets, I doubt they'll devote an entire theme to a bad faction in this day and age. A more likely scenerio would be them doing something along the lines of the new Kingdoms theme - pairing two neutral factions together in a wave of sets. If that was the case, I'd definitely like to see some more interesting colors involved. Even better, to entice nostalgic AFOLs, they could give the factions colors similar to early space themes. Maybe they could make one of them red with black and neon yellow highlights, and the other blue and grey with classic yellow highlights. That way, we could have a classic space revival without the classic space name, in the guise of a new theme that would please both kids and adults. Quote
sok117 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 and don't forget the aliens, everything works better with aliens, but not those squishy jellies, In this day and age, it would be cool to have a space theme with aliens and humans working side by side for a common goal, on both good and bad teams, or neutral,or whatever TLC may choose. CMP Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 If SPIII goes on to 2011, some civilian stuff would be cool. I'm thinking some kind of moon crystal farm stuff and maybe a bank. Quote

However, I particularily enjoy the BHG, and have most of their large-ish ships. Just the Lunar Limo to go now! Problem with the VX Falcon is it doesn't come by itself. You get 2 more skull twins and another street machine thing with identical marks and scratches to the other one you already have... Otherwise I'd buy a few instead of just one. Galactic Enforcer is too big to have 2 of, (there'd be more police than the rest of civilisation), for a similar reason there should only be one base and the Gold Heist ship looks silly. That leaves the small sets and Undercover Cruiser as the only fleetable police ships. The Max Security Transport you could have a few of I suppose, but the price of it has gone through the roof due to its limited edition-ness.I've got 3 or 4 of most aliens, it doesn't make much sense but I'm limiting to 1 Brick Daddy and Craniac. That gives the group some stable leadership, and I don't have to make up some ridiculous story to justify 2 bosses haha. (As opposed to before, where I had 2 Squiddies, 3+ of just about everyone else. How do you explain that? Who is the leader? etc.) Their ships/vehicles have far too much character to multiply, so other than the small ones the only one I have 2 of is the Smash n Grab (because it was on special, and because I wanted more than 1 Squidtron who I thought cooler than the original). The Lunar Limo is quite something, and the SP Central is really good too. Have fun with that! Quote
