lifeinplastic Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) Hi all, I'm sure most of you will by now have seen the 2010 pics, or at least the set list. I was really pleased to see the farm theme continuing with the pigs and a great tractor. This has to be the best of the 2010 city sets. So, do you think there will be more to come? After all, it is a theme which hasn't ever really been explored before. So what's next? Which animals/vehicles will we see? What else is missing? Take care R Edited September 23, 2009 by lifeinplastic Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I'm sure most of you will by now have seen the 2010 pics, or at least the set list. The Green Brick Giant Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Cool topic. I sadly think Farm is dead, but you never know. I hope they make brick built ducks or something. I'd also like a tool shep with a jeep, a horse area, and a small farm house. I would love an ostrich farm too, we had one around me, but I think they closed. Quote
Forresto Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Like heck it is! Playmobil has been doing farm for years and they can still come up with ideas. Quote
Svelte Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I have a feeling Farm is played out, for 2010 at least. It feels to me like, having spent the money to produce a pig mould, they needed some excuse to release it. The fact that this is the third Tractor in a line which only has 5 sets (not counting the promo) doesn't really bode well, either. It's a shame, I loved the 4WD and Combine Harvester sets - really classic and excellent sets. I also liked the blue tractor in the Farm set with its great trailer, but I don't really need another one. Quote
posades Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 A chicken coop was actually going to be my next MOC but I'm sure a LEGO produced one would be much better. Perhaps they could release something along the lines of Rolling Acres Ranch, or maybe a farmhouse and more elaborate horse stable. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Does anyone have any links to images of the new sets? Quote
jonwil Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 I hope they make a sheep before the line ends (and that I can acquire a lot of 50 through LUGBULK :) Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 What they need is MOLDED, not brick built, chickens, roosters, and ducks. Also sheeps and goats would be nice. A farm house and windmill or grainsilo. Quote
Piranha Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I certainty hope it continues Is the 4WD considered farm? Klaus-Dieter, looks like we are in need of a "new ideas for farm sets" discussion :thumbup We have: - Farm - Tractor - Combine Harvester - 4WD jeep (?) - Wind Turbine (?) Looks like we will have: - Pig Pen - Farmer Impulse I think LEGO could think of some more ideas but not all at once, maybe 1-2 new sets a year Such as the chicken coop mentioned We always see Fire, Police, Construction as main sets Sub sets are usually rescue like Coast Guard and Tow trucks Those were actually good because we had not seen them in awhile Farm should be a sub part of City along with Civilian City sets Quote
peterab Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Is the 4WD considered farm? I'd say so since it's towing a horse trailer. Klaus-Dieter, looks like we are in need of a "new ideas for farm sets" discussion :thumbup Well I'm not Klaus-Dieter, but I probably won't get so angry or use a million smilies either. Here are some of my ideas; Farmhouse - I guess we could just use a creator house, but an extra house is always nice. Plough - something more for all the tractors to tow. Sheep/Goats - A farm battle pack would be nice so we could get a lot of them easily. Livestock Truck - To take sheep/goats/cows to market A windmill bore pump - They had one of these some years ago as part of the outback theme, farming in dry areas like most of Australia is completely dependant on them. Grain truck - to go with the combine harvester. As a child I spent one summer on a wheat farm and 'helped' with the harvest. Huge fields, three harvesters, many grain trucks. Later I learned to drive plowing the stubble back in to the fields while the Farmer watched the cricket in the farmhouse :-) Quote
Rick Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I certainty hope it continues Is the 4WD considered farm? Yes Klaus-Dieter, looks like we are in need of a "new ideas for farm sets" discussion :thumbup Let's use this thread for that purpose... I think LEGO could think of some more ideas but not all at once, maybe 1-2 new sets a year That would be a nice idea, but as was said before... Playmobil is much better at keeping its lines alive. mikey Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I certainly hope that this Sub Theme does continue. Although more realistically I have a feeling Farm is played out, for 2010 at least. It feels to me like, having spent the money to produce a pig mould, they needed some excuse to release it. The fact that this is the third Tractor in a line which only has 5 sets (not counting the promo) doesn't really bode well, either. we may well be seeing the last of this great concept. I think LEGO could think of some more ideas but not all at once, maybe 1-2 new sets a year It may well be that Lego would do this with the theme, similar to the great construction sets that appear every few years. I think that it would fit well with the interests of the target age range, Fire/ Police/ Construction/ Tractors. I really hope so. As a child I played mainly with two types of toy, obviously Lego, and secondly Britains 1:32 Farm Models. Now I did grow up on a Farm, and had a vast range of the Britains Farm Toys, so my expierence may be different to the majority, although I do remember many of my friends at least having one or two Toy Tractors. So my wishlist, many of which are already half planned and unfinished MOC's, may well be unrealistic, as not many kids would be interested in these Lego Sets. First a set that I do think would be a great success with Child and Adult alike: A JCB Load All, surely at home on the farm or construction site. Secondly another realistic set: The Quad Bike and Trailor, a small set with great playability. Now a unrealistic set: The crop sprayer, perhaps not every Child's dream toy, although maybe this could sold with a tractor. One more unrealistic implement set: The seed drill, although maybe again sold with a tractor. The expansion pack for the Farm Set: I think some Large Shed Buildings like this could be a viable set, probably again sold with a tractor. I think some of these alongside the suggestions of peterab would be outstanding. Even if we do not see the Lego Sets, then surely they still stand as inspiration for us to MOC. Quote
BlueBard Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Nice topic I wouldn't say Farm theme is dead. It's true it hasn't been explored before and its results could seem a bit fragile but there's a lot of possibilities and if we know something about TLC is precisely that we never know... As new sets I would like to see: - A shepherd - Some house for the farmers - Henhouse Quote
Batbrick Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I would really hope Farm isn't dead, as it is the best of the current City lines. I'll BlueBard and hope for a henhouse, and sheep would be fantastic too Batbrick Away! Quote
The Cobra Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 What about a riding school? With a "modular" expansion set (horse box stall) Quote
lifeinplastic Posted September 24, 2009 Author Posted September 24, 2009 Nice ideas guys. I do hope the theme will continue, especially as police/fire are never really new ideas, just rehashed versions of what we've seen before. It would be good to keep farm as an ongoing theme. E.g. only releasing one or two sets per wave of releases. This way it can be kept alive without exhausting all the ideas too quickly and having to wait another 10 years before it is revived. I agree with the earlier comment of having moulded birds (hens, geese, ducks, etc). The brick-built ones are clever but do look out of place with moulded cows, horses, etc. Anyway, I would like to see... -A famhouse (an old-style house with farmer and his wife, small vegetable garden, good fence pieces and maybe a farmer's vehicle) -A smaller milking shed (to get cheaper cows, maybe with the brown ones from the medieval market) -A milk float (not strictly farm but certainly related to dairy production!) -Stables for horses (I like the riding school idea but Lego should produce a GREY horse!) -Sheep are a must (perhaps an impulse set with a shepherd fig?) The ostrich farm is also a novel idea and I really like it, especially as the Prince of Persia sets are due to be released soon. I can see the ostriches and the camels filtering into Lego System sets before long! I'd like this to link with the same style as the old 6444 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6444-1 set as a more Outback-style farm! And you are right about Playmobil managing to keep their themes alive! They also have more focus on civilian life. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 24, 2009 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 24, 2009 Farm still has a lot to explore and I believe there's enough idea's to keep this sub-theme of City going for some more years. I'd love to see more animals, but I'm already grateful for getting cows and new the pigs . Animals can be used for many themes (Castle, Pirates, Indy, PoP, ...) so it's worth the investment to develop them. I do hope TLG continues this line and that it continue to be the catalyst for more and different kind of animals. On a side note, I'm happy to see the new Camel and this other desert animal (if only I knew the name) in the upcoming Prince of Persia theme Animals ON! Quote
Rick Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 this other desert animal (if only I knew the name) in the upcoming Prince of Persia theme Animals ON! Ostrich? (struisvogel) I agree, as long as they keep the Lego-look, which they have certainly achieved with the cows and (from what I've seen so far) pigs. Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Also a non batman scarecrow would be a nice addition, maybe throw it in a garden set. With new molded black birds that can sit on the ground and not have there tail feathers in the way. Sort of what the seagulls look like in the Lego Indiana Jones video game. I agree a grey horse would be a much welcomed addition or if they could make a Horse without the bridle printed on. I don't know if they would ever do it but a donkey would be a pleasent addition as well. Quote
Matt Dawson Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Ostrich? (struisvogel)I agree, as long as they keep the Lego-look, which they have certainly achieved with the cows and (from what I've seen so far) pigs. Ostritches are in the new Prince of persia line... Quote
Oswald the Rabbit Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 A molded Turkey would be nice for Thanksgiving moc's. I would also like to see new molded pumpkins and a cornicopia. Quote
5150 Lego Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 How about a Semi Truck with a livestock trailer. To transport the little piggies and cows. Could include truck/trailer, driver, ranch hand and a little ramp up to the trailer to unload the animals.maybe even some gates to hold the animals once there off loaded from the trailer. Quote
Batbrick Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Also a non batman scarecrow would be a nice addition Oh yeah I'd definitely pay good money for that. That way I could incorporate it in many things, and Farm fans could get a sweet fig too Batbrick Away! Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 Nice ideas! I am relly happy that Lego continue this series. I want a chickencoop now! And the farm-house (even as a CREATOR set) would be great addition to this theme. What I want? A small set with cow A chickencoop Brickbuild milker Field set with scarecrow (Impulse maybe?) Anone knows there is 2010 Impulse set with a Pig and dog? Easy way to get new pig! Quote
