Yanzl Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 (edited) I didn't like the LEGO version so I made my own. It has better interior and openable door. Real life version: Flickr First version in LDD: Edited September 29, 2009 by Yanzl Quote
prateek Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 This is way better than the official one. It looks very realistic, I like how you did the rounded roof Quote
Sandy Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I love the official camper, but this is very nice too. I like all the interior you've managed to cram in, especially the toilet. The only problem is the door, since with real LEGO it wouldn't open very easily. Quote
Rick Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 The only problem is the door, since with real LEGO it wouldn't open very easily. Agreed, plus I don't think the sleeping compartment is 'usable' in this version. I was expecting TLG to make the front four-wide with a six-wide back as well, it definitely looks much better. And you have significantly improved the interior, the main problem with the official camper. Quote
Yanzl Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks, I replaced the door opening mechanism with something else, like the one on the bus. And there is some space in the sleeping compartment. I would use the piece that was in official camper, but it isn't in LDD. Quote
Ralph_S Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 This is just the sort of model I like. The combination of a five-wide front (excluding the mudguards, of course) and a six-wide camper body looks really good. It is as though the camper is based on an existing van chassis and cab, as is the case with many real campers. Although I've used similar door mechanisms myself (on my minifig scale coach) it is not an ideal solution. It probably does work a lot better than your first one, though. It's only a shame that LEGO don't make windows that are five studs wide. Do you intend to make a real-life version of it? Cheers, Ralph Quote
Yanzl Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 I've started making it in bricks already, but I don't have the pieces fot the roof. Quote
MetroiD Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Lovely camper there Yanzl! I was thinking of modifying / MOCcing the official Camper set when I get it and this is a great example of how to do that! Love the door mechanism. Wish I could utilise that in the camper I'm building (or rather, waiting for parts to arrive ;) ), but it's a tiny little VW Type 2 in 4-wide, so that thing just can't fit... Quote
Yanzl Posted September 27, 2009 Author Posted September 27, 2009 Here is what I made with real bricks. I still need to finish the roof. (Picture is link) Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Looks great Yanzel! I like the curved shapes in it. It would be even more awesome if you build it with real bricks. Quote
missouri_bb63 Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Really, really nice. I like the interior detailing. There are some really clever fixtures and fittings in there. I can't wait to see the completed "real" brick version. Edited September 27, 2009 by missouri_bb63 Quote
Milan Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 If you get those rounded pieces for the roof, it would be really nice camper. I would also suggest for the sleeper above the cab to use rounded bricks on either sides or at the front. It is really hard to achieve smooth shape if it is rounded both front and sides. Alternatively, you can use 2x2 45 degrees double Sloped Brick for edges and 2x2 45degrees sloped brick for front and sides of the sleeper. Hope I did not confuse with this Quote
BlueBard Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Wow! The real model looks impressive, can't wait to see pics of the interior. It's a wonderful MOC this camper of yours, the idea for cheese slopes in the middle section is brilliant Quote

Yanzl Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 Yeah, I got some inspiration forum your cars. I'm thinking of making whole thing 1 stud wider, so that I can make proper windsheald. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) That's a great MOC, Yantzl! I really it! It looks very close to the official camper - but the interior is much better (in the official camper there is regrettably nearly no interior although there would be enough place) - toilet and small kitchen! Very well done! Klaus-Dieter Edited September 28, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
Yanzl Posted September 29, 2009 Author Posted September 29, 2009 I finished the bricks version: Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Great brick-version, Yantzl! The place inside is used maximum for great interior! Klaus-Dieter Quote
