Klaus-Dieter Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 (edited) Hello everybody! I really like the architecture and the exterior design of the CC styled buildings but do really not like that these buildings do only include very few interior and mainly that they have closed backwalls. So I took some time last week and built following MOC which is a combination between CC styled building and regular City building and which shall show that buildings in the style of CC style could be used for City very well if only they included no backwalls: Cafe de Paris In the center of Lego City there is the famous street cafe named "Cafe de Paris": The box art: The minifigs included: young girl, boy with skateboard, grandfather with walking stick, waitress with two big ice creams and grandmother with bicycle: Have a skateboard ride on the sidewalk, let you bring a cool ice cream or a hot coffee, wait at the bus station for your bus or hang up the washing. The interior: The different floors can be set on top of each other: First floor: cafe: Second floor: ancient living room with chimney: Third floor: children's room: Fourth floor: roof terrace: Come to the Cafe de Paris! Vive la France! Some more pics can be found in this folder (when public) of my BS gallery. Comments are welcome! Klaus-Dieter Edited September 29, 2009 by TheBrickster Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Really neat! I like the villa-style architecture, but I'd suggest adding stairs Quote
Rick Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Really neat! I like the villa-style architecture, but I'd suggest adding stairs Your advice goes a little against the classic town 'rules'. I really like all the detail you put in. I just think the building looks a little 'chunky'/'blocky' overall: the walls of the building as well as the windows on the roof are a little 'flat'. Quote
BlueBard Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Nice design, it would be a wonderful City set with very interesting MFs I specially like the exterior of the Cafe and its floor BTW, I don't pretend to criticize the title of your MOC but I don't see the typical parisian style in your building. Nevertheless it would fit perfectly in many little french towns Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Always loving your MOCs, Klaus. Keep up the good work! Did you make that first image with Microsoft Paint? Quote
MetroiD Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Your advice goes a little against the classic town 'rules'. Agreed, but only if we lay extra stress on "a little". Stairs most definitely can't hurt, if you ask me Nice design, K-D, must have been a fun build... The cafe itself and the small garden outside are wonderful, how about trying to spice up the second floor a bit? For example, tiny balconies (think Market Street!) are typical features of French houses, why not add one or two? And how about window shutters? I know you might have to rearrange those windows, but I feel some shutters would really look good on this MOC. Quote
Rick Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Agreed, but only if we lay extra stress on "a little". Those are the details I think would really break up the walls and make the whole building a little less bulky. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 28, 2009 Author Posted September 28, 2009 Really neat! I like the villa-style architecture, but I'd suggest adding stairs Thanks, samthelegoman1! I did not add stairs since there have never been stores inside Town/City buildings. Plus imo stairs only take the place away which could be much better used for interesting interior. I really like all the detail you put in. I just think the building looks a little 'chunky'/'blocky' overall: the walls of the building as well as the windows on the roof are a little 'flat'. Thanks, Rick! You mught be right with the bit blocky look. I firstly wanted to add very small windows to the third floor but then thought that this wouldn't look well. Plus in the Cafe Corner building these big windows are used, too. So I added them to the third floor. Which windows would you use for the third floor? Nice design, it would be a wonderful City set with very interesting MFs I specially like the exterior of the Cafe and its floor BTW, I don't pretend to criticize the title of your MOC but I don't see the typical parisian style in your building. Nevertheless it would fit perfectly in many little french towns Thanks, BlueBard! To the special french architecture: The name I gave this my MOC is perhaps a bit mistakable: I simply wanted to build a small cafe. The name doesn't say anything about the architectual design in which the house is build - otherwise e. g. all Greek restaurants would have to be placed in houses which look like typical ancient Greek houses. The main reason why I named it Cafe de Paris was because of the terrace and that it is a street cafe. To the minifigs: I thought that some specific minifigures which don't come with the regular City sets would make it more interesting - so I necessarily wanted to include a grandfather and a grandmother and a kid. I'm glad to hear that you like this selection. Always loving your MOCs, Klaus. Keep up the good work! Did you make that first image with Microsoft Paint? Thanks, Legoliner Pilot! Yes, I did make the first imagine with Microsoft Paint. I can say you: it was some hours of hard work only for that one picture - if I had known that before ... The only problem with the window shutters is that there would be that then less windows. But some balconies surely would work very well! Klaus-Dieter Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks, Legoliner Pilot! Yes, I did make the first imagine with Microsoft Paint. I can say you: it was some hours of hard work only for that one picture - if I had known that before ... Your image appears to be pixelated. Just a tip, if you want a clear image, save the file as .png instead of .jpg. The result will be a higher-quality image. Quote
Rick Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 Which windows would you use for the third floor? There's nothing wrong with those windows per se. I guess my comments relate not only to the windows on the third (second for the North-Americans) floor, but to the whole second and third floor. Adding some details or 'depth' to the building would definitely help (TheOtters' balconies are a nice idea). But do you need the white bricks next to the windows given that they have a 2 deep (2 x 4 x 2) frame? Perhaps if you would use those in another color (white?) you could integrate them in the roof without needing the 1 wide white bricks next to them. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 KD: this is one of your best creations. Great detail, and a very nice job with the interior. I love that coffee pot. Nice photo-editing, which really enhances the overall look of your creation. Edit: although I think you should call this Cafe Heidelberg or something a little closer to Munchen. Quote

I only hope that BS allows .png, too, otherwise it doesn't work. There's nothing wrong with those windows per se. Interior is - like you already know - something very important for me when looking at City/Town sets. I'm glad to hear that you like it. Cafe Heidelberg? I think that many Lego fans around the world couldn't imagine what that should be - pluas the german name. No, a french or english name is always better since Lego is international, too. Otherwise it's a neat idea! In principle I did not think very much about which name to use for this cafe. I only thought that with the terrace you can find in many street cafes it could be found in Paris, too - and doesn't Cafe de Paris sound good for an expensive street cafe where you can get the best and most delicious coffee and ice cream in whole Lego City?! WhiteFang Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Very nice creation and its certainly one of your best that I have ever seen so far! Love the combination of both integrated building styles that demostrated a very lovely cafe filled with details of both interior and exterior. The color elements used on the 4 levels, including rooftop complement each other very well. I enjoyed viewing this MOC very much, and it happened to be featured in Classic-Town.net as well. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 This is excellent! One of your best works, I think. I wouldn't have thought that the CC-style could have melded so well with the open back, but you certainly pulled it off! Quote

Indeed the CC style could have open backwalls and then be used for regular City very well - that's what I wanted to show. Klaus-Dieter Edited October 2, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
