Dr. Steve Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 WOW! After being away all weekend this is great news to come back to. This almost makes me take back all those terible things I was thinking about Lego If hey had just put Blue Coats in it I could accept the line ending. THANKS LEGO!!! Also is that a new hair piece for the daughter? Quote
UsernameMDM Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Also is that a new hair piece for the daughter? No. It's been in at least the Agents and Castle lines. Quote

the Inventor Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Wow! Amazing ship , its a great ship, a shame this is the end of the line. But a great ship with interior and finally a Lego ship with a deck. the Inventor Quote
Shakar Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 (edited) Forgive if my question sounds stupid. The problem is, I never owned any Lego ship (unforgiveable, I know ), so I’m a real noob when it comes to these things. I’m amazed by the new Imperial Flagship and I really want to buy it, however I’m a pirates fan and I want to convert it into a pirate ship (yeah, I could buy Brickbeard’s Bounty, but this one is much better). So, the question is: do the sails in the Brickbeard’s Bounty set and in the Imperial Flagship set have the same size and shape? In other words, can I replace the Flagship sails with the ones from the Bounty? Thanks in advance, Shakar EDIT: D'oh! I forgot the colour+bold Edited October 5, 2009 by Shakar Quote
astra Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Wow... amazing... I'm not really a Pirates-fan, but this one just might me reconsider... Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Thanks for more great pictures! I'm almost tempted to buy two of these ships! Quote

It seems that they are the same size. I would recommend not posting in orange, as it's very hard to read. Thanks! Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Holy Crap! I never thought Lego would actually pull the trigger on something of this scale. This is huge for them. It doesn't compare to any previous ship that has come before it. I never thought that would happen in a million years. I am stunned. I guess I'll just have to put those new golf clubs on hold. I am going to need six of these beauties. Now if Lego could just see clear to releasing a couple little impulse sets with new Bluecoats I will be extremely happy...well exremely happier...extremely happiest? Damn this is really cool! WOW...way to go Lego. You are back on the Christmas card list. Quote
Quarryman Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I’m amazed by the new Imperial Flagship and I really want to buy it, however I’m a pirates fan and I want to convert it into a pirate ship (yeah, I could buy Brickbeard’s Bounty, but this one is much better). So, the question is: do the sails in the Brickbeard’s Bounty set and in the Imperial Flagship set have the same size and shape? In other words, can I replace the Flagship sails with the ones from the Bounty? Well, as far as I can see they use the same design for the masts with the same distance between the yards, so even if they're not using exactly the same size and shape it should be quite simple to make it fit the sails from Brickbeards's Bounty. And now I see Erdy has already written almost the same as me.. oh well, great minds and not so great minds and all that Quote
domboy Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 (edited) Amazing!! Now I'm really glad I didn't buy Brickbeard's Bounty... this is so much better... along the lines of the old ships. But I don't have any pirate ship to go with it... I'll have to try to get an older one sometime.... I just hope this set, as a Lego exclusive, will stay available past when the rest of the pirate line ends... I finally just got the Medieval Market Village, so it'll be awhile before I can afford to get another big Lego exclusive... Edited October 5, 2009 by domboy Quote

Thanks! Really? You're the first to point that out. Thanks for the advice- maybe it's time for me to change my post colour afterall. And of course, thank you very much for your reply. They appear to be the same size, and I suppose Lego wouldn't go through the trouble of making another sail mold when they already have the one from the Bounty. I hope so, at least- Edward Red Dragon's pirates deserve the best! Shakar EDIT Didn't see your post Quarryman. Sorry! I thank you as well. Edited October 6, 2009 by Shakar Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Yes!!! Exactly what I wanted from LEGO, even better!! I'm going to buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Svelte Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I just hope this set, as a Lego exclusive, will stay available past when the rest of the pirate line ends... I finally just got the Medieval Market Village, so it'll be awhile before I can afford to get another big Lego exclusive... The shelf life of Exclusives is generally 2-3 years so I wouldn't panic. The poor-selling Factory sets (Space Skulls etc) and General Grievous are the only ones who've had a shorter run recently, mainly because they obviously weren't selling and were clearanced. The 'discontinued by mid-2010' line for the regular Pirates sets usually just means that once the last batch of sets goes out of production, they won't make any more. Quote
ptcruisen82 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Does anyone think that TLG will release a ship of the same caliber for the Pirate side, if and when they re-release? I think this ship is amazing. I was reading elsewhere online the Pirate theme is to come back in 2011... is that true? And if so, then why take a half year off? It seems crazy to me to only release a theme for year, especially one which has such a rich past and is really one of four main themes of the company, other than City, Space, and Castle. Quote
Vladimir Leonov Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Amazing! As many others have said before me, its about time there was huge Imperial Ship. In my opinion the Imperial ships should've always been bigger than the Pirates ship (for accuracy). Although I like white sails, I don't really like these ones. I feel like the striping looks like drawn on pencil lines. I feel like they should've been plain white or tan like the old Imperial Flagship. It is fairly expensive, but I feel for what you get, it is well worth the price. Quote
Admiral M Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 (edited) Hail the Pirate Lords ! TLG has smiled upon us! Now I don't feel as bad about the theme ending as I once did, this is fantastic. I love pretty much every aspect of it. I'll probably add a triangular sail to the stern, but otherwise, I'm so glad this was made . It's exactly what I wanted in a ship, and it was less than what I thought would be the cost. Now I'll have 2 ships in my navy, so you better watch out ( ) ptcruisen82, I don't think there will be any more ships this year, though it would be nice, I think this is the last pirate-themed set we'll see until we get pirates again. You could make a "superbounty", by combining 2 brickbeard's bounties like I did. They don't look half bad. Edited October 5, 2009 by Admiral M Quote
GC8Monkey Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Ah finally, a large Imperial ship for my Pirates to attack. Maybe to thier folly though by the size of this new set. What a wonderful addition to the Pirates line, even if it will be put on hiatus in mid 2010. I really like the change to the masts and rigging. This is so much better than Brickbeards bounty. I can see where my christmas money will be going to now. Quote

I feel like they should've been plain white or tan like the old Imperial Flagship. I'd have preferred an off-white cream or light tan The problem with white is that the fabric they use now is stiff and thin, so pure white ends up coming off a little transparent and cheap-looking (I'm thinking of the Carousel roof here). Commander Laquiet Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) It hasn't been in any pirate set so far but it isn't all new, it was in Agents 8632 Mission 2: Swamp Raid actually. Thanks. It looks like a good map. Edited October 6, 2009 by Commander Laquiet Quote

I think we all know that pirates had smaller and faster ships with fewer cannons, while the soldiers (England, Spain etc) had biggger, slower ships with crazy amounts of cannons, hehe. Quote
brick-a-block Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Absolutely! I think we all know that pirates had smaller and faster ships with fewer cannons, while the soldiers (England, Spain etc) had biggger, slower ships with crazy amounts of cannons, hehe. I know TLG's objection to overall military themes in LEGO, and like society LEGO was supposed to represent a constructive attitude in a world clearly fraught with destructive behaviour. But in recent years TLG has certainly come borderline with its fictional and fantasy pieces with guns and soldiers becoming a central theme in more contemporary LEGO. This is a great leap for TLG, and the Imperials have always been lacking in a ship that would really knock the pirates socks off (if they had any). I have my fingers crossed hoping that TLG will introduce a new line featuring battle between the bluecoat Imperials and the redcoat Imperials, with pirates as a peripheral figure introducing this new line. But with the above said, I can only hope. Exciting set, but why should LEGO stop there given their most successful and perhaps the longest running line were pirates? Surely they wouldn't pass up this opportunity just for a few anniversary pieces that are so markedly modernised. I mean why change the original and build new sets if the line wasn't to continue, why didn't they just rerelease the old in special packaging as they did in the late 90's and early 2000's with older pirate pieces like the 'black seas barracuda'? There are already classic minfigure sets on the website with a few guards/pirates featured, surely introducing both was not folly if the new pirates release wasn't meant to be exactly that - NEW! The most logical reasoning I can thing of is that is was the 20th anniversary of the launch of pirates so they really wanted to give it a good homage. Also, they know that all the 2009 Pirate sets are going to be collectibles. Quote
