I'm actually jealous of your cbr-125. In the US bikes that small were not available until just a year or two ago.

Yeah, I keep hearing that and I don't get it. You'd think the USA would be a big enough market that even a low seller would be good money!

My bike may go fast but I can barely pull 40miles per gallon.

What bike is that?

CBR125 is a great learner bike.

it is very narrow, so I didn't have that secured feeling couple times when I rode it.

Have fun with it!

Yeah, I don't have much confidence on leans, but that's a good thing at this stage!

I assume NSW has a learners course like Vic which is partly designed to scare the appropriate level of respect into you.

Yes, it's a good idea for the most part. I wish it had some actual road time though; driving around a 100m course in second gear isn't realistic...

The first time you completely megabluck up and come off will also give you a large amount of respect, but if you have the right attitude you may never need to learn in that way, or if you are a least tending in the right direction you'll be at a low enough speed to avoid too serious an injury. If this sounds a bit paranoid it's not un-intentional.

I'm hoping I don't have to learn that way! But at that moment I'm cautious enough, knowing me it won't last long though.

In fact I've been told several times I ride like a girl. One of the people who told me that no longer rides at all, and walks with a limp, and has restricted movement in his shoulder and spine.

I knew someone like that. He loved showing people his skin grafts and generally messed up arms.

ETA: oh and watch where you put your feet when you're holding up your bike (looking at the mud in the picture) there's nothing more embarrassing than falling over at the lights because your big motorbike boots have no grip in oil patches. Well there is one thing and thats falling off your bike and knocking it over while parked outside a cafe with your motorbike friends. Not that I would know anything about either of those events

 Actually it's not as muddy there as it looks. We live on a hill and our driveway becomes a mini river when it rains. That patch is about half a centimeter high of dirt on concrete.... and the boots are just what I've been wearing for years. I need to buy some motorcycle gear though; it's really cold on the highways!

We always gets the crappier versions of almost everything, it still KS, the US has some weird policies and rules.

Leaning over is creepy at first, you just don't think the bike will grip. I'm not sure how far you can lean I'm yours because the tires are quite thin, but unless your on a track, you'll probably. Never find that limit

One of the factors in my crash was not being confident cornering, I hadn't mastered counter steering (and despite what everybody tells me it didn't come naturally) and I was fighting the natural tendencies of the bike around corners. As you said the learners course didn't really cover it because mine was on Honda CB 250s and my Across' geometry is quite different, and we didn't really get up to the speeds that make it more apparent. It looks like you are in a rural area so you should be able to find some curvy roads. Get some leathers and find a friend to ride with so you can help each other out if need be, and get some road confidence up. In traffic the last thing you want to be thinking about is controlling the bike. Other road users are so much more of a danger to you.

Sharing scary X-rays is a common pastime among motorcycle types. It's not a bad way to maintain caution, it might be a good idea to take it up if you think you wont maintain it naturally. Also consider doing track days if you have a bit of a hoon in you. You're far more unlikely to do something stupid to yourself on the road if you can go as fast as you want on a track at other times. Advanced riding courses are often touted as a good idea but all the Australian stats I've seen indicate they breed overconfidence among motorcycle riders. I'm reliably informed doing emergency stops from 240 K's on someone else's bike is pretty awesome though. Most people chicken out when it's suggested that they can try it on a wet track though. I've never even been back to do the next step in my Hart course which is the step up from 250s to a bigger bike because the bigger bike was never a priority for me. A lot of my bike riding was through central Melbourne and the 250 allowed me to be a lot more nimble in traffic.

Doesn't have to be deep to be slippery, or maybe I'm just too uncoordinated :-P

Very nice!

Very true! I've done about 200 km so far which isn't too bad for my first week. There area I live in is quite good for learning to ride; it's on the outskirts of a regional town. Thus there's all sorts of traffic and roads. Unfortunately I know no one here so riding with a friend is difficult. (Not impossible I know.)

Thanks for the tips and sharing your stories. :sweet: Hopefully I'll have some to share in time.

I must admit I haven't been following closely, but welcome to the club Sieggy!

Stash your bike is plain awesome, did you already install the carburettor kit to make it sound like the older Harleys?

Here's some pictures from my last ride in nice weather, with all the last modifications:

Pics are lookin good CGH! I think I prefer the one with the girl as oppossed to the one with you on it...no offense!

Only things I have added on relating to the engine are the Vance & Hines Powershots pipes and a Screamin' Eagle air filter. The pipes give it a slight boost in horsepower, but at 125 off the line, I really don't need that much more. They also give it a meaner growl when I lay on the throttle. It's not ear deafening, but it does sound considerably more 'bad megablocks' than the stock version. Stock was just too damn quiet. When I would pull up next to another bike, I couldn't even hear my pipes. That's just way too quiet. The air filter is a racing performance one put out by Harley and significantly increases the air flow into the engine. More air to the engine = more speed. I just have to wash it out every so often, other than that, it runs fantastic.

All V-Rods are EFI so there is no carburetor on my bike. When I got the bike, it still had that distinctive sound though, the engine is just a higher pitch being that it is based off the VR-1000 race engine. For those of you that don't know what I mean, say potato potato potato potato over and over and that's essentially the sound of a Harley. I know a few other companies out there have programed a calculated misfire into their engines so it tries to replicate the sound of a Harley, but once you have the real thing, you can always tell.

So to sum up a long answer to a short question, no, no engine mods so far. I just added a little more 'balls' to my toy.

I was however looking at changing over to a new ride (Street Glide), but with the shitty weather coming, I would go nuts having to look at it in the garage for 4 months and not being able to ride. So, we'll see what happens next year.

And CGH, I got a package on it's way to you sometime this week. Hopefully you get it next week.

It's been great!

Without wanting to sound dodgy, I enjoyed the girl & bike photo. Are they your kids?

Yeah, Myra and Max. Myra seems to be a natural; she put the bike in gear!

Well the season is officially over for me.

It is snowing right now. This will mean to much stuff on the raoads my bike won't like.

See ya next year.

Hands off my girl dog!

You should post a video with sound if you have the chance, would very much like to hear it!

125 bhp is enough, I'll settle for 75 on my next bike.

With the recent postmen strikes, I don't think it will be in soon, but thanks in advance man!

Yeah, Myra and Max. Myra seems to be a natural; she put the bike in gear!

Don't give her the keys then!

Could have really used a ride today, but since it's 9 degrees F outside, that ain't gonna happen. As others have stated, I miss my girl already.

I'm with you, my snowblower is filling my engine fix for now. :hmpf_bad:

Seiggy, I'm so jealous of your bike, I love the colors adn it looks so much fun.

Sorry for the crappy quality. :cry_sad: I haven't bought a new scanner since my last one went down so I had to take a picture of this analog photo. I also apologize for the terrible photoshopping on the rider but since she's one of my ex-girlfriends I think that it was the right thing to do. This photo was taken in 2002.

Isn't she a beauty? (The motorcycle that is, not the cemented girl. )

Not my choice in style, I'm more of a fairing kind of guy, but I do think it's safest to put all ex girlfriends under cement :-P

Ohh, aren't you mean!

That is a great photoshop job. I love it!

Too bad that I don't have original photos from a digital camera. I bought my first one in 2004 and the accident I had was in 2003 (with this bike).

I REALLY miss riding... :cry_sad:
