JCC1004 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Police escort huh? You put me in a good mood. What a heroic an manly road warrior! My girlfriend loved my cycle. We used to ride together. If I could have affordded it at the time I would have gotten another. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 New age road warrior, on 50ccm! I seroiusly think it would be interesting to be cruising at like 55-60mph and have people pass you at 75-80mph. It'd be a bit of a thrill. Quote

It'd be a bit of a thrill. Been there, done that (in my first car, on the highway). Believe me, it's anything but a thrill. Having that experience is what kept me off buying a scooter when I was 18. On a sidenote - I did upgrade that ol' car a bit, but I still made a point never to take it out on the highway again. Now, the ZXR 400 is not a flyer per se, but it's still a zappy bike and should be able to hit a nice top speed which won't make me feel too ashamed! Edited October 23, 2009 by TheOtters Quote
Milan Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 (edited) I have had that kind of "pleasure" from the first ride of the scooter, up to today. It is simply slow and slow accelerating, allowing cars to road-rage right next to me, involving me in some pretty crazy maneuvers to avoid side impacts...I am really disappointed in car drivers never looking enough for motors. You can watch will your full attention, but it is never enough, there is always some nervous raging driver, or kid with 3 days old traffic licence, celebrating by driving like mad...Also the 15 y.o. kids on fast enduro bikes often cut my road while passing me. 3 times I was very unpleasant, almost threatening, to few bike riders when I got them on stop sign or red light, after they almost pushed me out of the road lane! I am very peaceful and calm person, but that kind of stuff really annoying me Edited October 23, 2009 by Milan Quote
Big Cam Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I moved my bike to the back of the garage, put it up on stands, and put some junk in front of it for storage. Goodbye my good friend, until next year Quote

Goodbye my good friend, until next year Here is not so cold yet. I will use scooter today to buy one more drawer-case for lego tiles, and then back to the garage, this time for good... It is the shame that Kawasaki could not be driven this year. Oh well... Quote

Goodbye my good friend, until next year ouch, that's early in season. I need mine tomorrow for a small business trip (my wife got the car) so it will be washing and polishing this weekend as there is rain expected. Hopefully we get some nice sunshine days till December for a few short trips. Quote

Fargo ND, USA, it's been 36 degrees F here for the last month almost, plus rainy and a bit of snow here and there. It sat for a motnh and I finally decided to re-arrange the garage and put her in a safe place for the winter :( I still want to change the oil, but I might just wait until next year when I take it back out. I do need to get some fuel stabalizer and remove my battery. Another day I guess. Quote
MetroiD Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I could imagine that, Big Cam! My uncle has just flown home to Minnesota and I guess he's going to have to prepare his Gold Wing for a long cold winter... Good thing is, we've planned a motorcycle trip of the North States for the summer of next year. Hopefully, I'll really be able to give him a visit ;] Btw, do you guys know where one could rent a Triumph in Minnesota or Wisconsin? Quote
peterab Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Im a little late for this party but I thought I'd add my 2c. I've been riding for about 11 years, but have only had the one bike. Its a 1997 Suzuki Across. I bought it second hand when it was about a year old and have done 93,000 kms on it. I haven't used it much in the last three years though. The weather here is OK for riding all year, though it does get wet at times. I can imagine how sad it must be to put your bike away for months at a time. I've wanted to get a bigger bike as 250s are generally regarded as learner bikes here, but haven't had the money to do so since buying a house was my first priority. I'd probably buy a 600 sports bike if I could, and like Cam I'd choose based on how comfortable they felt. I'm 183 cm or 6'1" with long legs so that's also how I chose the Across, as most 250s were too small. The Across has turned out to be very reliable, with only minor problems in the last few years, pretty good for having done over 100,000 kms. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 That is alot of KM for a motorcycle, that says alot about Suzuki's reliability. Glad to have antoher biker in the thread Quote
Milan Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Nice bike, peterab! Nice from you to drop in! My neighbor had a bike with approx 550.000 km on taho. I forgot was it Suzuki, or Honda, I will check it with him. Quote
Milan Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Well, time to take the bike to the garage for the winter. It is to cold to drive it now. Did anybody of you guys make "conservation procedure" to the engine? Basically remove the spark plug, drop few drops of oil in the cylinders, turn the engine few revs without ignition, and put back the spark plug. I do this every winter to protect the cylinder and the piston. As I have been told it is needed for two strokers every winter... Quote

My bike is fuel injected so I don't worry about ti. I just throw in some fuel stabilizer and remove the battery, then come summer, I burn that tank of gas as fast as I can, change the oil, and I'm ready to go. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 Next week there is the Bigtwin bikeshow in Holland, anybody going? Quote

L-space Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Next week there is the Bigtwin bikeshow in Holland, anybody going? I just might. It is only a 20 minute drive so i could take the bike. If it's dry off course. Quote

Your bike isn't waterproof, or is it your head that's giving problems? I'll be there on sunday just like the previous 4 editions. Quote

I just don't want to come in full raingear, it's allways a problem leaving it somewhere. In case of rain I will take the car or the bus. If indeed I can make it. Quote

They have lockers in the wardrobe, so it shouldn't be a big problem. But if indeed the weather is really bad i will come by car as well. Quote
CloneCommanderDelta7 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I think my dream road bike would be a Ducati Hypermotard 796. They look so cool, like off-road but still have the performance of a road bike. Other than that, a supermotard would be good. Anything Honda. They are starting to bring out Fuel Injection to Dirt Bikes. That should help. Quote

They are my favorite to look at but performance wise I am finding out that there are actually better ones out there. For a bike like you are looking for though, a supermotard would be sweet. If I ever actually had the money, I'd be spending it on an MV. Quote
MetroiD Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Ducati's Hypermotard is actually one of the motards out there, Big Cam, I gotta give em that... Btw, I'm cooking up a lil surprise for you biker boys around here :) All this motorcycle talk has got me inspired once again, hope I'll post the result by the end of the week Quote
