Posted October 5, 200915 yr Review of BrickTW Products In September of this year, BrickTW entered the brick accessories market and I was curious to see what their accessories looked like up close. With other people doing reviews of Brickarms and Brickforge products, I decided I would review BrickTW. So I placed an order and within no time my order had arrived complete and error free, which is a good sign. You can visit their website here to see their prices and all items in more detail. From what I can tell, they seem to be geared towards building Chinese Dynasty Warriors. I am not an expert on ancient Chinese civilizations though, so I have no idea if these weapons/armor actually existed at some point in history. For the review, I used two normal minifigs, Goatee and Smiley. Now let's start with the colors. BrickTW uses 4 colors for all of their accessories, Tan/Biege, Red, Dark Warm Grey, and Black. I think the colors match up very well, but you can decide for yourself. I also threw in a little bit of Dark Bluish Grey to help out with your color comparison some more. So with the color match questions out of the way, let's get right into the good stuff...WEAPONS!!! SWORDS 5 swords are available, they are... Slaughter Broadsword Saints Sword Broadsword with Seven Stars Bloody Broadsword Revolution Broadsword OPINIONS The detail and relief is fantastic and these things don't break easily (I tried), but these things are HUGE! If these really were this big in real life, I don't know how an army would have had the stamina to fight after carrying their weapons to the battle! One of them reminds me of a sword carried by a specific character from the Final Fantasy saga. HALBERD Only 1 option is available in the four colors. Dark Hell Halberd OPINIONS The scale seems right, and I think it is quite unique. I like this one, if nothing else, for the fact that it is one wicked weapon! SPEAR There is only one type of spear... Cross Dragon Spear OPINIONS This is such a simple design, yet just looks it would destroy an enemy when thrown. My favorite out of all the weapons they have! BOW Just one bow in their inventory... Flame-stlye Bow OPINIONS I like the look of this bow. The extra detail really makes it stand out from other bows. I just don't see myself using it in mass because it has such a unique look. I do see uses for this, but only with a few archers or rangers. I just can't seem to figure out the point of those two holes in the bow. The Brickforge Longbow has holes, but those are for threading string or fishing line through. SHIELDS There are 3 different types of Shields Round-style Fighting Shield Rectangle Shield Rectangle Shield for Spear Soldiers All of the shields have a small pin (handle) which attaches to the backside. This is very useful if you want to pose your warrior with his shield in a specific way. OPINIONS The pin feature for a handle is great. I think it creates a lot of different angles in which the shield can be used/carried. The three options are great because not all warriors used the same types of shields. I did see one problem though, and this is most likely due to the plastic, but there seems to be a cloudiness to some of the shields. I tried to photograph it as best as I could. BODY WEAR There are 4 pieces of armor... Ching Dynasty Armor Army Clothing of Ching Dynasty (back is same as front) Armor of Zhao-Yun Clothing of Zhao-Yun OPINIONS Armor looks good, there is some great detail put in. They fit snug and have enough of an opening at the top so the neck actually disappears. When you apply a cape though, the head doesnt sink down as far into the armor, but that is easily fixed by increasing the hole in the cape. The helmets seem to work fine with the armor, and also with a cape. HELMETS BrickTW has one hairpiece and four helmets for order... Zhao-Yun hair style Army Helmet of Kin Dynasty Steel Helmet of Kin Dynasty Army Cap of Ching Dynasty Army Helmet of Ching Dynasty OPINIONS The helmets all look good, including the hairpiece. I found that ALL of the helmets, including the hair, were very tight fitting to the heads. I had to trim off just a little inside each piece before attaching it to a minifig head. I found out the hard way and mutilated two heads while trying to remove them. But now they work great; they stay on and pop off when I want them to. I did find one of the helmets looked very similar to another helmet I had seen before... HELMET ORNAMENTS We know these more commonly as headwear accesories, and there are a few different ones to choose from. Ornament of Kin Ornament of Ching Ching Dynasty Feather Ching Dynasty Feather for fighting OPINIONS As small as these are, they really add a lot to the helmets. After equiping the models with the helmets, they actaully look naked without these tiny details. A great addition to the helmets. Well there you go! These are the accessories available from BrickTW, and every piece is available in every color. Only time will tell how popular these become. As for color and durability, these definitely match up to our standards. And now, I finally have a review done!
October 5, 200915 yr Thanks for the detailed review, Stash! The assortment and variety is very impressive for a new start-up. I assume the headpiece tightness issue will be corrected in future releases, if the store is informed of the issue. Mutilated heads don't sound good! I do wonder why they use old dark gray instead of the new colour. That ornamental bow piece would be very useful for decorative detail in City MOCs as well
October 5, 200915 yr I have never heard of BrickTW before, but I am so glad you have enlightened me to their existence. :] These weapons, armor, and accessories look great!
October 5, 200915 yr Today I received a complete set of brickTW customs in all colours. The first impression is very good. Hope to make some minifigs in a vignette soon. Woody64
October 6, 200915 yr Thanks Stash for this very detailed review. I will love to get my hold on its weapons, shields and helmets. They look real awesome to create some solid oriential solders. I am not very keen with the bow design, but the rest of them are very appealing.
October 6, 200915 yr Thanks for the Review Stash2Sixx! These Weapons and Armour look Amazing! I love the swords CommanderFox
October 7, 200915 yr One of them reminds me of a sword carried by a specific character from the Final Fantasy saga. Yeah I thought the same thing for the Slaughter Broadsword making a good Buster Sword for Cloud Strife, but too long and width is too thin, but good way for improvision if someone cannot customize parts. :) -Omi
