So, not long after having completed my first modular building, I decided to update my old town hall in the modular style. Please let me know what you think.

The exterior, next to Fizkin's Soda Shop

The first floor (or ground floor) contains a large hall for town council meetings (Mayor Maynought presiding)

The second floor (or first floor) is a library.

Comfy chair in the library:

I like the squidman attending the town meetng.

The bookshelves are a nice touch to the library, and that chair does look comfy. I'm not real familiar with the original but I certainly like your version. The staircase is very inventive, if it's your own design. You also picked the perfect face for the librarian, and the feather in the ink container is a great detail that some may not have taken the time to add.

Do you have a thread for your soda shop too? I'd like to see that in more detail as well.

edit: I found it

Thanks! The staircase is kind of my original design; I made it with no outside influence, but later discovered I'm not the first one who has made something like that (see the Market Street set).

BigCam, here is the topic for the soda shop:

You can see the original town hall here:

That reminds me, I should take pictures of my updated fish and chips stand.

Hello!

That's a good idea with the library on the second floor. :classic: The carpet is a very nice touch.

The librarian looks a bit bored. Maybe give them a few more books to sort or some flowers to water and to green up the room a bit. :classic:

Cheers,

Very nicely done. I love the staggered books in the library as well as the filing cabinet there, but the cabinet seems a little thin. Perhaps making it one brick deeper might add to the effect? Also, I like how the yellow-with-white-windows look gives it a very classic LEGO touch.

Nice job Mariko, I like the yellow, not many people use that colour extensively. The clock looks great, and good choices for the windows. Nice that you've made an inside, but i think the stairs needs work they just don't look like stairs to me, and the inside is a little bare. That said the bookcases are great, and the meeting with Squidman is quite funny

Batbrick Away!

Looks good. I like the unusual color.

I also think like others that inside needs little more details to provide more life!

But overall I like it!

Thanks, guys!

As you suggested, I am working on the interior. I have improved the staircase already (when I found out that Market Street used a similar method, I updated mine accordingly), and am working on the library. More pictures soon!

Batbrick and Milan, my unusual color choice was the result of necessity. I was going to make the town hall in grey, but I wanted it to be somewhat similar in color to my rather lively original town hall. I considered tan, thinking that it might be yellow-ish enough in effect, but I didn't have nearly enough pieces. So, I stuck with yellow, and I like how it turned out.

Now thats better!

It has much better look now!

Agreed, I like the stairs a lot better this way and also the rooms are more 'filled' now. One thing you might want to consider (I'm not saying you should or that it looks better, just consider) is segmenting the top floors into separate rooms.

I thought of that, but I think that might get in the way of the library feel.
