Lidl (German discount supermarket) have some clone Lego in last weeks special deals here in Ireland - "Ministeck" (presumably German clone, or possibly Asian clone for German market). €3.50 for digger, police heli, fire heli, etc. Also mixed bricks.

I didn't buy one even to sample as from the box pictures it looked poor quality (poorer than Megablocks), and to be honest, you don't get much more than €3.50 would get you in real Lego.

A better deal than you get from the local Eurostore though (like the UK's "£1 shop") - they have an even poorer clone that is just about the size of the smallest Lego city sets, for €4. This is pretty crazy given that the same money gets you the smallest Lego sets (small fire jeep, etc.) However, much of the target audience probably don't have the opportunity to get to the out-of-town shopping outlets where Lego is sold (city centre lost its last proper toy store, a Smyth's Toys outlet, about 2 years ago).

Lidl did have actual Lego Basic bricks a year or two ago in their special offers (although it was pretty much just normal retail price).

I'll keep an eye on Lidl over here and see if I can find a set to review. Nothing will beat Tatco for dreadful quality, let me tell you!

I wonder just how many clone brick brands are out there?

:oh:

Wow, that actually looks good!

The truck is very nice. Not only it's a truck with trailer but it also looks great.

I think that the ship's hull consists of several hull pieces just like the LEGO ships from the early '80s. An excellent (modular) feature.

The way the stacker grabs the container, although that is simple (at least from what I can see), it makes it look impressive.

I would definitely buy that set for sure.

Thanks for the image and the link lightningtiger and tophdawg. :classic:

Best-Lock has been around here for a time, next to the LEGO. But not in the big toy store, I haven't seen other brands over there. Ministeck is also showing up sometimes (yes, like in the Lidl). I haven't been impressed by other brick brands, but I must say Oxford is really doing well. Heck, if they would be available around here... I would have to resist myself from buying one. I mean, the quality and design looks really good judging by the pictures. The harbour, awesome. And their trainsets with a station, LEGO could actually learn something from that.

I also have to say that I was very tempted a year ago to buy me some Megabloks, because some of their sets (like aeroplanes) almost convinced me, and my father was interested in their jets. However, I resisted and never bought any. Oh, we had Megabloks when I was little. But not for me! My parents bought my sister a girly Megabloks set, because there wasn't any girly LEGO anymore. But a few years ago we got rid of it. Like said, I don't like other brands. But if Oxford ever comes to the western market, I think LEGO will lose a lot of it customers. Probably not including me, because LEGO will always be the best for me (and I already have so much of it, why change).

Tatcoo?! So thats how they call them! I LOVE THEM! Yes almost like Lego- They were my first bricks, and I loved plaing with them... I still have some parts from a big spaceship.... Oh memories! Thanks for posting this!

But wait... Did I missed something... Minifigs looks exactly like I have, but it contains normal looking bricks...

Bricks I have are great quality and there are little bulkier than Lego...

Disney spreads their license around quite a bit. Besides Oxford's license, and the Pixar and Pirates of the Carribean licenses that used to be with Megabloks and are now with Lego...
Exactly where did you hear the POC was with Lego now? That's only been what people have hoped for, as far as I have read/heard.

How bad? Gladador bad, or Megabloks bad?

Considering Megablocks is thebest quality non-Lego on the market and Galidor was a buildable action figures series...

I would say: It is as bad as the cheese in McDonalds cheese burgers in comparison to a really good mature cheddar.

Ah yes Cobi, great plastic quality and some nice parts for figures, I have a little. It is hard to come by in the UK.

And England .

I once came close to buying something like that (a clone brand), but then a friend of mine told me it had melted in the sun, I decided to go for the Lego after all.

My brother came across a rip off of Collectible Minifigures a while ago, not sure where from or which company. The series contained ordinary townspeople, like firefighters, police people and criminals.

He had one of the firefighters, which to the untrained eye looks a lot like genuine Lego, accessories and all (the torso printing gives it away). The figure was slightly taller, and the arms, legs and especially hands were very stiff.

No idea what that could be. I did buy a large amount of Click Brick (not the bootlegger ones) Lil' People from The Entertainer, as 3 bags for a single pound, with two figures in each, I couldn't resist. The army men, variety of headgear and close resemblence to Lego make it fantastic mod-fodder. The colour is a perfect match, they are set aside in a special box.

I think the BEST-LOCK White house was out before the LEGO one. Also since one is a playset and one a display piece I would not call it copying LEGO BEST-LOCK even had a Air Force One. There is no doubt that LEGO has the best quality though.

Can anyboby identify what the brand is? Not LEGO as shown by the poor design of the cab and it is not a LEGO minifig inside.

Look here

Looks like the generic brick that gets a million different names. Enlighten most commonly take exact replicas of Lego parts but varied brandings get applied.

Best Lock have their own wheel parts that look different to Lego wheels. As does Mega, Oxford and Cobi.

Hope that helps.
