Cwetqo Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Best set: Winter toy shop - it's cute, it's exclusive and it's cheap Worst set: Venator - it's just too bulky and unproportional. I think that it would be way better if they made it without playable interior Quote
Ronan Dragonov Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Best: 7197 Venice Canal Chase - What's not to like: great motorboats & great minifigs (even to an anti-fleshie like me.) Worst: 10196 Grand Carousel - It'a a very nice and detailed motorized minifig carousel but why would anybody want one? Runner-up: 6242 Soldiers' Fort - It's no 6276 Eldorado Fortress or even a 6267 Lagoon Lock-up Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 (edited) Worst - 7078-1: King's Battle Chariot - Too much moneyfor too little and is horribly designed. 7752-1: Count Dooku's Solar Sailer - They make a set called sailer that doesn't include a sail!?! 10195-1: Republic Dropship with AT-OT Walker - It cost $250 when you could buy the real walker and the real dropship sets separately for cheaper and get several hundred more pieces! 5980-1: Squidman's Pitstop - I forgot about the SP theme. How could anyone like this? It's three random little ships, all of which are horribly design, and a "base" that doesn't make any sense at all. Overally it looks like a 5 year old MOC with nicer colors. Best - 7638-1: Tow Truck and 7639-1: Camper - Both are cheap sets that I think are great for kids and nicely designed to keep adults happy. 8958-1: Granite Grinder - It's different, but still real looking. my favorite PM set. Also 10193-1: Medieval Market Village and 10199-1: Winter Toy Shop are great, but i figured we didn't need another topic about how great they are. Rufus Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 (edited) Let's see... when I enter these sorts of thread, personally I think it's fair only to consider the sets I own, but these are my best and worst: Best 8038 Battle of Endor It has a perfect mix of minifigs, vehicles and buildings, and the price seems unusually fair for SW. 7641 City Corner 7477 Wind Turbine 7635 4WD & Horse Trailer 7639 Camper Basically I'm a huge fan of Lego's 6-stud vehicles, so any of these could get my vote; I think the 4WD takes the prize. Worst I'm with Peppermint on the 8015 Assassin Droid BP. It isn't even particularly useful for parts. 7685 Bulldozer It looks nice, but it's stupidly large! Only really useful for terrorising Lego citizens, or for demonstrating the excess space in Lego Boxes Rufus Edited October 31, 2009 by Rufus Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Best: Medieval Market Village ( ) Worst: Tantive IV (not too exciting - just a big hunka' bricks) Quote
FlyChicken Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 The best one is deffinetly Medieval Markett Villige. The worst is King's Battle Chariot, because of unbalanced design and high price for such a small and ugly set. Quote
Mission Commander Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Best: Fire brigade Galactic enforcer Battle of Endor Clone Walker Winter toy shop Worst: Garage Assasin droid bp Tantive 4 Quote
green dewback Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Best: Cannon Battle (Cheap firing cannon with 2 minifigs, great starter to introduce you into a new theme.) Worst: Minifig packs and 3-set magnets (For introducing sub-par quality minifigs into the pure world, with people selling magnets as the real deal minifigs.) Quote
Lord Admiral Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) I gotta agree that the worst set goes to a battle pack. But it's not the one you're thinking of. The worst set of the year unquestionably goes to 852747-Pirates Battle Pack. As for the best set, MMV and Winter Toy Shop look to be the best, though I haven't actually gotten around to building either yet, so I can't say which one is better. BBB, Crystal Sweeper (despite the puke-green color scheme), Maximum Security Transport, these are fair runners up. Edit: I just want to qualify that I'm only considering non-licensed themes. I have a general dislike for non-Classic Star Wars sets, so to work around that bias, I've excluded licensed themes entirely. Edited November 2, 2009 by Lord Admiral Quote
Swash Buckler Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 (edited) Best: Medieval Market village- could be best set ever (Endor set comes as a second i think- massive amount of minifigs good parts whole battle- even though At-St is not the best) Cairo Ambush was excellent too- so little - but so well selected parts, i have two of them- maybe i should buy third- arabs, apples, golden plate, carriage, basket....and little and cheap (well for a good set) Worst: Venator- it is huge but not accurate -not cool- terribly expensive and had two poorly done senate commandos- some clones and cw-Palpatine- only good thing in whole set i'm not even dreaming of it...- Still many Space Police and Powerminers were even worse- hard to the use parts with orange and/or limegreen color Edited November 2, 2009 by Swash Buckler Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Best: Medieval Market Village & Pirates II line Worst: Anything Power Miners and Star Wars Quote
Etzel Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I'm only going to list sets that I actually have bought so I know them well enough to judge: Best: 10193 Medieval Market Village According to me the best LEGO set ever. 6253 Shipwreck Hideout Pirates made a great comeback in 2009 and I think this was the best set in the line. 7195 Ambush in Cairo Fantastic minifigs just like in all IJ sets this year! But the price is not a winner Honourable mentions: 6192 Pirate Building Set 7197 Venice Canal Chase Worst: 6241 Loot Island Not living up to the standards of the other Pirate sets. I don't like the big island piece and the unnecessary canon and catapult. Just bought it to complete my Pirate collection and because of the great printed legs of the shipwrecked pirate. Themes that I didn't want to buy a single set from: Power Miners Space Police III Agents 2.0 Bionicle Racers Quote
bamaker Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Sticking only to the sets that I've purchased this year. Best Set: 8308 The Battle of Endor - great minifig selection and it provides a full range of play options Runners Up: 7195 Ambush at Cairo - again, great minifig selection and there are myriad play options for such a small set. 10199 Winter Toy Shop - only thing holding this back is I haven't had a chance to get it out of the box, yet. Worst Set: 8963 Rock Wrecker - what an overpriced, hunk of nothing; it costs $5.00 USD more than the Thunder Driller, but comes with fewer bricks & fewer minifigs. There are 4 big saw blades that dominate everything about the set, a too tiny cab for the driver, and then a bunch of nothing. Even the rock monster is kinda meh. Quote
ciano Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Also, in light of recent news, Brickbeards Bounty no longer holds a special place in my heart. It is undoubtedly the worst designed ship the Pirates line has ever had, but until news of the new Imperial Flagship came out, I was willing to look past that because it was the first Lego Pirate ship in about 300 years. I cannot let this stand. Brickbeard's Bounty pales in comparison to greats like the Black Seas Barracuda and Skull's Eye Schooner, but it is nowhere near the travesty that was the Redbeard Runner. Need I remind anyone that the chief gimmick of that ship, the ship that ended the pirates line in 1997 much like a balloon falling flaccid after farting all of its air through a small hole, was BREAKING? You pulled a pin to make one of the masts fall down, and the aftcastle fall out. Plus, it had THREE SAILS, which were FULL OF HOLES. I was a little kid when it came out, and it sucked so hard that I was wondering when the "real" pirate ship of 1997 was going to come out. Now that I'm finished ranting, I'm going to have to say that the City Corner was the best set of 2009. Even though I haven't opened it yet, it's eye catching, and looks like a heck of a lot of set for $60.00. It's got a roof, substantial accessories, and a great price; just about everything I want out of a LEGO set. The worst set, I must say, that I have EVER gotten, is that awful BrickMaster: Pirates book. My judgement was clouded because, as you no doubt were unable to ascertain from my opening rant in this post, I have a thing for Pirates. I bought that piece of crap for whatever ridiculous price was on it, took it home and was unable to build ANYTHING of value from the quantum of useless pieces it includes. That crime against my wallet taught me to think harder before I buy. Quote
jonwil Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Best sets of 2009: City Corner Emerald Night Worst sets of 2009: Anything with a Clone Wars badge on it :) Quote
diggitydug Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Best: Agents 8970. For the person who loved the crystal king, think of this madman's mech as a giant crystal king you can put a minifing isnide and drive it around! Burn my helpless minifig minons! Worst: Temple of doom. for 90 you get a rickety half rolercoster with limited playability? yeah, i can see kids keeping this one together for a while. NOT. Quote
gladiator Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 The best ? I think 10193 Medieval Market Village... and second place 10197 Fire Brigade The worst? hmmm.... I bought several sets... I think mostly great. Lego had good job in 2009. but, I vote troll fortress as the worst set, not including minifigs :) Quote
