From looking at the pictures, its pretty clear the baseplate is a tan 32 x 32

Can anyone ID the part being used for the dark green awnings on the front of the shop?

I may be infatauted at the moment but I believe this is looking to be the best modular we've had

-Nice dark green awnings

-Chandelier!

-Nice source or clear smoke parts!

-dark green 1x2x3 windows

-5 minifigs

It's incredible. Looks like Green Grocer though, is still the interior king with a fully tiled interior. It does have the 8x8 space covered whereas Cafe Corner didn't, so this may look more massive than CC.

I'm really, really infatuated with the set right now, though.

But remember, this topic is about the Grand Emporium.

Late Breaking News!

New Images with Close-Ups. See the first page.

Looks like this escalator doesn't move. Could there be another?

Wow, what a great find TheBrickster!

After seeing those close-ups, it looks even more amazing than before!

I like the technique of hanging the letters of "SHOP" on a flex tube, it really gives it a round look.

That escalator looks very cool, again a great use of the flex tubing.

And I love all of the other details like the chandelier, dark green awnings, and mosaic at the front entrance!

The only thing I find weird is the scooter. The design of it just looks odd when compared to everything else in the set.

But other than that, this looks magnificent! I can't wait for a review!

I'm confused about the back corner of the bottom floor. It has a ceiling above it, suggesting it's indoors, but you can see that there isn't a wall on the far side (look at the last row of studs where the main gray wall has a black base). What's behind that door?

I'm officially now in love with this set. Beautiful pics, thanks!

Is that an Admiral's daughter dress on the mannequin minifig I see? :oh3:

Also looks like at least one trans-green goblet inside the second story window, suggesting there's a full store in that level too.

There are two pirate torsos! How cool is that?

I dunno... I'm not as impressed by this as I was by CC and GG. The middle floor looks too much like the top floor, the other sets had distinctly different floors. However, at least it fits in with the blocky fire station better.

I'm still going to get this set, of course... it's just not going to be my favourite.

Another outstanding modular building.

The only thing I don't like is the "head and gift sign" on the top.

Love it, won't buy it, I don't own any of them, but it's very lovely. No pictures of the top floors through?

At least 100 times better than the fire station mess.

I am seriously in love with this superb awesome wonderful excellent piece of modular building out there.

Outstanding on its both exterior and interior!

Hey, I'm new to these Forums, only finding the site and signing up a few days ago, I'm glad I did, because this set looks fantastic. Here's hoping the price down here is Australia is not to dear when they release it. Thanks for sharing this information...

Guf

Really? I actually prefer the fire station. This one looks kind of pale and flat and like someone has used the 'clone' tool in Photoshop... the fire station looks dark and vibrant with several very different but complimenting layers. The 'SHOP' sign looks kind of gaudy for a 'grand emporium'.

Eh... I'll stop now because I don't want the only one to have negative things to say when everyone else is drooling.

Edit: I do like the mannequins, the chandelier (from what I can see), the escalator, the green awning and the way the giant minifig head has plates instead of tiles for the eyes, making the pupils pop out... so not all my thoughts are entirely negative.

Really want this one... :cry_happy: My Green Grocer is shipping today so my collection of modular buildings is complete. Only issue is a space issue

I've seen that window washer somewhere before. Hmmm...

Hehehe, I remember that one (must have been the contest with the longest open voting thread  ).

Also looks like at least one trans-green goblet inside the second story window, suggesting there's a full store in that level too.

I'm guessing it will be more like the GG. With the ground floor fully detailed and the upper floors just having a few interior items. The ground floor interior uses really 'luxurious' colors, like dark red and gold. I'm willing to believe you on the working escalator TheBrickster, but from the pictures I'm still trying to figure out how the... they managed to pull that off in that amount of space.

Overall, the building is really starting to grow on me. I like the - even tiny amount of - dark tan on the upper floors. Furthermore, the relative simplicity of it - like with the FB - is kind of a welcome break. Perhaps a better sequence of buildings would've been: CC - FB - GG - GE. GG is still my favorite modular (slight victory, I adore them all), so I hope Jamie will have the option to go really wild again on the next one. I'm up for some sloped-roof GG-style architectural madness again.

Since Green Grocer gave a slight hint at the next Building in the series,

I was wandering if this one is doing it as well, and in the same place?

Do you mean the box art? The curved arches look the same generic ones to me. I think it's too early to be looking for the next one in the series

No actually, The little thing standing next to the lamp post!

I thought the way they constructed "SHOP" is brilliant, but I feel its too generic, so I might do away with it. The same reason my Cafe Corner is displayed without the vertical "HOTEL" sign (but that's also because of the fact that it's mirrored when read from the other side.... picky me) Maybe slap a custom Saks Fifth decal on plates for me instead?

I feel the near-identical 2nd and 3rd floors is a plus, it contrasts to CC and GG.

No actually, The little thing standing next to the lamp post!

Ah, so we're getting a post office or an Erdbeereis chain ice cream store next?

But then again, how was FB foretelling GE? I don't see any clues there...

Thanks everyone for providing the pictures!

This is so very nice. I like everything about this set. Maybe might be my new favorite one in the series!

But then again, how was FB foretelling GE? I don't see any clues there...

What is FB? FaceBook??

Ah, so we're getting a post office or an Erdbeereis chain ice cream store next?

But then again, how was FB foretelling GE? I don't see any clues there...

Well, it was just a thought, but me thinking a post office could be it.

But don't really care I haven't been disappointed with any of the CC. style buildings yet.

and am glad that Lego will continue the series.

Ah, so we're getting a post office or an Erdbeereis chain ice cream store next?

I think grogall should stay off all the grog :laugh:

I don't think the escalator moves, either. It looks far too brick-built and I don't see why the first floor one would be different from the ground floor.

Now, I feel it's a great time to re-visit Svelte's MOC, and compared the differences between both sets!
