S@H: 26th of february

Now it says:

S@H USA & Canada - Coming Soon on 21 Feb 2010

Rest of the world is still 26th Feb

No offense, but i cannot say i applaud this attitude...

I don't blame you guys for thinking this way, but this exactly encourages the idea

of making money on Lego, over the backs of those who just like to play with it.

Thanks to people like you we are generally paying more and more for our bricks then

they are worth it. And i hate it. I hate the idea the Lego will be tommorow's new

money spinner...

Sorry for saying this, and for being off topic here.. :sadnew:

I agree with you that making money off AFOLs' backs doesn't seem right to me. But perhaps investment in Lego isn't such a bad thing after all... If more and more AFOLs buy duplicates of 'investment' sets for future resale, then the laws of offer and demand dictate that prices will have to go down, as there will be too much offer to support asking prices of unpteen times the original MSRP. So discontinued sets could become more affordable in the future if this trend continues. And this way Lego sells more sets that it would otherwise do, and they may afford to issue more exclusive sets to cater to the AFOL/investor market niche. Does this make any sense?

I wish you were right, but i don't think this is likely to happen...

The thing is: if you are an AFOL, you use the bricks when you have them.

You play with it, you're having fun with it, you don't think of them as an investment.

TLC most likely will not think this way either. Why else don't they offer more bricks

and colors on SAH/PAB?? I wish they did.

Of course, I have to be glad there is bricklink and such, and I really am! I use BL

too of course otherwise i wouldn't be able to build a whole street like i have.

But the price and demand is now dictated more or less by everyone who offers their

bricks via BL. Like I said: I don't blame them, but this is the reality. If TLC would

give SAH/PAB a bigger chance then now, then they would be in charge much more,

and we wouldn't have to pay redicilous prices for particular bricks anymore.

I mean to say: 17 dollars for a complete turkey is about the amount you should

pay for a real one, not a Lego turkey...

I don't think investing and playing Lego are self-exclusive: as far as I can tell, more and more AFOLs combine business and pleasure by buying multiple copies of exclusive sets, so they can both play with them and save some for later when they can sell them with profit and auto-finance their hobby to some extent.

Were TLG to drop their prices on the Pick-a-brick selection and add to the variety of parts, they could bring down prices on Bricklink as well. But it doesn't seem to be their priority, and I wonder how sustainable is their online PAB operation. I read somewhere that up to 25% of their sales are from collectors so this is definitely a big market for them. If I were to guess, I would say that Lego wants to cater to collectors more than to AFOLs, although there is definitely an overlap here. Collectors generate big revenues for TLG, whereas PAB and similar operations may not be worth their while, especially with the competition from Bricklink. So AFOLs should be happy with awesome sets like the Grand Emporium* and not hope to much on the official PAB to fullfill their part needs :sceptic:

* Just to stay on topic... barely

I respectfully disagree. If one wants to speculate in the "LEGO Market" then so be it. Supply and demand applies to LEGO no differently than any other product. I think LEGO, and these modular building in particular, would be a safe investment.

Yeah well...

Thanks for respectfully disagreeing with me!:tongue:

But like one said before, back on topic i think... :classic:

I don't know what is going on either but I just checked and it is no longer listed in the US. Can someone else in the States confirm this?

What strikes me in this set in the number of windows. I've counted 50 of them. Sure this set beats the record don't you agree?

I wouldn't worry too much that 10211 is not listed on S@H at the moment; fluctuations in date of release and even the item dropping out completely is not uncommon. It was the same with the Imperial Flagship. Often the date they put up first ends up approximately accurate.

Not too much that we haven't seen. The most striking thing for me is the number of new pieces that comes with this set. The green canopy, new curve, white almost t-shape poles, and some accessories. I'll get it for SURE.

Having seen the video review I be trying to get my hands on this set and then I'll be MODing to the hilt.

Putting in more merchandise and a down esculator as well as the up one provided.

I'm a conformist! ! :classic:

Oh bummer! Date has been pushed back to Mar 17th in the US! :cry_sad:

I will be modding mine as well. An extra escalator as you mentioned, plus I will be tiling the floors also. Nothing too over the top though as I think this set looks amazing as it is.

Oh, on top of that I will be replacing the "SHOP" signage to read "MYER". Already mocked it up in LDD!!!

Likewise here!

Think I'll change the SHOP word into HEMA...

makes more sence to dutch folk here... haha.

It makes more sense, that's for sure. Though it doesn't do any justice to the shop  A shop this well suited is more a Bijenkorf than a Hema in my opinion. Or at least a V&D. Hmm.. Maybe that'll fit as well in stead of SHOP.

I can wait to see the Myer sign 'Younge' - lets hope David Jones doesn't get it instead of Myer's eh ?
