GRogall Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) For accuracy there should be two escalators per floor. I guess the minifigs will just have to run down the 'up' escalator. Or, it could be those modern escalator which switch to go up and down! Edited January 15, 2010 by grogall Quote
ACCURATEin Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Superb!~!!! Looking forward to the first week of March for the arrival! Quote
Holodoc Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 This new set looks good.I love the new minifigures along with the elevator and chandelier. However I am a bit disappointed with some of the features especially the terrible "SHOP" sign, I was hoping for a sign which actually displayed Grand Emporium. The bike and Ice-Cream stall are very good, nice to be getting some new transport. Come on guys, the shop sign isn't that bad, is it? I for myself have never seen a sign like that: Brick build letters attached to one of those "technic flex-system hoses"? How cool is that? That's a pretty nifty idea and I like it! If you don't like the "SHOP" - well, MOC it yourself. I'm awaiting what all our members come up with instead of "SHOP". Thank you TLC, for a great inspiration. Quote
richb Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Come on guys, the shop sign isn't that bad, is it? The 'SHOP' lettering itself isn't that bad, but I'm definitely not in love with the bright yellow color. I give the design of it an A+ though, since it opens up a whole world of ideas with modular letters; rearranging the sign without affecting the structure since the letters just pop on and off. I can think of lots of four letter words to put up there. Though it'll be a shame when the 'O' falls off the sign during heavy winds and crushes a person below. Quote

If we use the vertical holder plate (whatever the official term is, idk) instead of the horizontal they use for "SHOP" we can possibly fit more than just 4 letters by having the brick built letters arranged vertically. Zorbas Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Though it'll be a shame when the 'O' falls off the sign during heavy winds and crushes a person below. I can already picture the vignettes and the photos that will use this "accident"! ...and don't forget the billboard. Quote
Sir E Fullner Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Wow! Escalator and all, it is impressive. Seems expensive, though. Quote
Svelte Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Maybe Svelte is a "secret" LEGO designer! Uh... no. Leave it to the experts! As I said a few pages back, I'd heard some details (corner shop, revolving door) when I did my MOC but hadn't seen any pictures. Apart from the superficial similarities, the builds are wildly different. In particular I love how Jamie has resolved the corner window feature through curves rather than flat angles this time, and as Holodoc says, the system of clipping letters onto flex-tube is pure genius! Jasper Joppe Geers Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) Ok, that confirms that this is once again a Jamie Berard creation. Thanks. Edited January 15, 2010 by Jasper Joppe Geers Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Ok, that confirms that this is once again a Jamie Berard creation. Thanks. All of them are... of course not Market Street, but of course he helped Erik there too. Quote
marvinblue Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 This looks fantastic, well done again to Jamie and his team! I'd love to see one in Australia, but then again, I'm still waiting to see 10197 in Oz. I thought it was a nice touch that TLG put the price up by $AUD20 at S@H and it's not even here yet!! Quote
MarcusV3 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I'm in love Although I like Svelte's better It's still a very nice set with lot's of amazing details!!! I just love it! although I agree that the interior on the two top floors might be a little bland (We'll never know till more pictures!) I think it'll be a lot of fun to design our own and look at each others interiors as well Now I love speculating but let's not be counting our chickens before they hatch and magically transform into the next CC building I mean I think it's a little bit soon for everyone to be thinking about a post office (Though believe me I'd LOVE one!) I mean there are a lot of things to be taken as clues in this set, and that's just on the outside! We haven't even seen how many "clues" there could be on the inside! And if this mailbox is taken as a clue so quickly this time shouldn't we have gotten one right now? I mean Green Grocer had 4 mailboxes! Don't get me wrong I definitely believe that these clues are placed, but I also think that the designers are pretty good at hiding them by putting lots of possible clues in the set to keep us all guessing. I mean we COULD get an ice cream shop, a toy shop, or maybe even a business for window cleaners just like Fred Of course it could still be a post office just wanna make sure we all keep our minds open Quote
Svelte Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I mean there are a lot of things to be taken as clues in this set... Bridal dress in shop window = madly over the-top Vegas wedding chapel with flashing neon signs and Elvis impersonator minister That's my guess Quote
merman Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Maybe this is a little far-fetched, but could it be every set contains a hint of what the next set will be? - 10182 Café Corner had a garbage can with two green cherries or grapes falling out hinting on 10185 - 10185 Green Grocer had a fire hydrant hinting on a fire station - 10197 Fire Brigade is the hardest link to the next Modular Building, but maybe the minifig with the shoulder bag that seems a bit off place like she is about to go shopping at a department store? - 10211 Grand Emporium has a mailbox, hinting the next set may be a post office? Or a ice vendoe hinting on an icecream salon? Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Well if the post box is a hint - then lets say TOWN HALL - these were also usally a post office in a town/city as well. Quote
Etzel Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Bridal dress in shop window = madly over the-top Vegas wedding chapel with flashing neon signs and Elvis impersonator minister That's my guess You know you have to build one now? (seriously, I would love to see your version of something like that ) Quote
Axis_Vega Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 (edited) What's that room/area on the ground floor right behind the cashier? Is that a mirror? Initially I though it's a fitting room but I guess that's the space separated by the round curtain.Any ideas? looks to me like it has a knob on the outside only, and leads to the outside straightaway. and also it looks like whatever was in that space above the door was photoshopped out. maybe hiding mechanics for a rolling escalator :-p and for my part, I would love to see a New York style library, complete with lion head statues :-) Edited January 16, 2010 by Axis_Vega Quote

Who else thinks it is time for "Jamie Berard Appreciation Week"... or month! Quote
Derek Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Here are somethings I've noticed about that mysterious door- -It's clear (You can see the gold knob on the otherside) -There are two arches at a corner outside of it. -There also seems to be a white light fixture (white faucet and dish) outside of the door. So I am assuming that it is some sort of strange back door... The baseplate is tan, so I am a bit bummed out that it isn't green like the others I'm really looking forward to getting this! I will order it as soon as it goes on S@H, Green Grocer got me hooked on these! Quote
Littlest Rhino Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Looks amazing, can't wait to pick it up in the coming months! Quote
Rick Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Bridal dress in shop window = madly over the-top Vegas wedding chapel with flashing neon signs and Elvis impersonator minister Yeah, a post office would be way to obvious, this seems most likely to me as well... Mercy! Maybe this is a little far-fetched, but could it be every set contains a hint of what the next set will be? Here are somethings I've noticed about that mysterious door- I think we already arrived at these conclusions a few pages ago Quote
Jasper Joppe Geers Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 About those tan baseplates.. I wouldn't mind them if they were dark tan instead of these! Quote
Henri Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Hello all, What about a nice ice-parlor as the next set? or is that too much of a hint. Or a dry-cleaners? (the wet cleaner is hanging down from the roof....) or a bicycle shop (the kid's wheels are hinting too that).... I just wait and see and hope there will be a new building every 6 months. I just joined this site. Me and my son are lego fans, and we love the modular houses. The upcoming 10211 will look great in our ever growing city. We also own a Lego building which was made by people of the Lego Shop in Oberhaussen, Germany. It contains a Lego Store and Starbucks on the ground floor, a nightclub on second and third floor and a photostudio on the 4th floor. I would like to post pictures of this building but am not sure how and where to post them. (what is max file-size or resolution, how to upload etc.etc.) Please throw me some hints so I can post the pictures of this nice building. Henri Quote
