I just finished building my GE and here's a photo(I believe this is the 1st ever) of all 5 modular houses together:

And also here:

Yes, this was shown before in a slightly different way (see here), but thanks anyway!

Although the massive size of the buildings and the quality of the designs are impressive, I don't feel like the 5 buildings realistically fit together in the same street. As much as I love what LEGO comes with for the Modular house sets, I wouldn't just throw them together on my layout without some serious modding or other buildings in-between to give the street a more reasonable look.

Alas I can't show what I'm talking about, I only have GG so far!

space6901: I have Café Corner, Green Grocer and Market Street, and these all work perfectly together. I'm expecting that when it arrives, Grand Emporium will too, although being a different building style. It will simply look like it has been built later.

Fire Station in my opinion doesn't fit in, but similar to yourself, I can't 100% comment as I don't own it (nor do I intend to buy it unless I had surplus cash to get other more desirable sets *and* Fire Station).

I would rather see a bank as the next modular.

Hmm. Somehow that strikes me as the most plausible thing. Don't know why though, I don't have any inside information :classic:

I guess we'll just have to wait and see... :classic:

I am also very anxious to see what is next in line. LEGO keep this series coming. I will be buying two of each and every set you add. I even bought 2 of the Fire Brigade, even thought I did not care for that one. They are still in the box actually.

I would welcome a Pet Shop, that has a lot of potential.

Come to think of it, the next model could also be a Car dealership with showroom and repairshop, combined with some apartments above.

I can remember that Jamie Berard said some things with Fire Brigade about experimenting new ways and thus including a car, maybe the coming set has a car also? Than a cardealer would come in handy :classic:

...just speculating...

Yes also waiting for info on the next building, hope to hear something soon. :hmpf:

but like I mentioned earlier if the hints are correct we will likely see something todo

with a postoffice!? *huh*

Hi

does anyony have any idea, when it will be retired.

It is on sale for nearly 4 years - that is a long time.

Even possible that the last ones are already in the shelfes?

I think it is a must have - and after reterement there will be rediculous prices fore the set.

I was wondering this too, but the shop @ home site here in Canada shows that that set is due to be restocked within the next couple weeks, so there's hope that we've got a little while longer to pick it up.

I bought this set last year as my first modular, and luckily it led me to buy Fire Brigade before they sold out. Of the two, this set was more appealing so I wanted to get it first. It will almost certainly retire sometime this year, so I wouldn't put it off too much longer if you don't have it yet. Next up for me is Pet Shop, becuase that's another one that I suspect won't be around too much longer. I think Pet Shop will probably stick around through the end of 2014, but I wouldn't count on that for Grand Emporium. My guess is that the latest we'll see this set is late fall.

Grand Emporium will probably be the next one to go. I built this one on Christmas--a nice build. Even if this is not a favorite in the modular series, it does strike me as one you would hate to miss out on. Getting it now would probably be best ahead of the other modulars.

Even if this is not a favorite in the modular series,

Which one(s) are the favorite(s) in the series? Just curious. I haven't bought any yet, but might dive in soon. (sidebar: pondering whether its worth picking up Fire Brigade now at a slight mark-up or not.)

You should definitely pick a FB as soon as you can... The prices will only go up despite its long production run. Being someone who missed out on the first 3 modulars (due to my dark age) you don't to be paying huge prices for a set you could have got at a fraction of the price... Same thing with the GE I think....

Sometimes, the GE gets criticism for having a repetitive build or for a somewhat sparse interior. It is liked well enough by collectors, and I think it is a fantastic model to have. As for the most popular of the modulars, I hear a lot about Green Grocer. Unfortunately I came in on the scene after it had already been retired. The new Parisian Restaurant is certainly well received in general. Everyone of course will have their favorites, and for some it is the Grand Emporium. If you have the means and plan on getting as many as you can, the suggestion would be to start with the oldest set available and work your way to the more current ones. The advice about the Fire Brigade is sound. Get it now before the price really goes up. It is no longer available on Lego.com, but they are available on certain sites.

If you think the GE is a bit sparse and have got the 2013 City advent calender you can fill the toy department at the top to overflowing, complete with Christmas tree and Santa handing out presents if you want! The second floor homeware can also get a fireplace, table, more glasses bottles etc and even a barbeque to sell (although I suppose it is a bit out of season if the upper floor is Christmas...)

I really like the GE, it has a very classic urban look to it. Yes, it is very sparse on the inside but it is fun to personalize it and this set has the space inside to have a little fun with it. I started the modular series with FB and I was very anxious to get the GE - I think I bought it only a week later and it still occupies the most visible corner on my modular display.

It's funny to see near the top of this page - when the GE was released and speculation about the next modular in the series began the first two guesses were a cinema and pet shop!

^^^^ The value of the set will no doubt grow over time. I would get a FBnow if you can and if the mark up isnt too bad. It will definitely gain value.

Arggh, i'm really torn on this. If I buy one (FB) from a US seller now, I'd be in the range of 1.3x to 1.5x (CDN) MSRP, depending whether I have it shipped to a relative living in the US, vs. shipping directly to me here in Canada. (The downside of shipping to my relative south of the border is that if its not convenient to retreive it later, I may end up paying even more shipping cost later to get it up here anyway.)

On the one hand, this might be the best opportunity short term to get one before the price really takes off. On the other hand that is still a lot of money and that hurts given I could've sworn the TRU site was still showing them in stock at MSRP over the Christmas holidays (not any more, obviously).

Do I just let the FB go (given I don't have the first 3 in the series anyway) and start my modular collection with the GE? Or make a point of paying this premium. Decisions... dilemmas....
