David Thomsen Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Ack! I hope not. 90% of LEGO official sets are vehicle-based, so I really don't want to see them become a trend within the Modular Buildings line Really? I kind of think a few well-designed vintage vehicles could add a nice atmosphere to the modular street. Quote
Carbohydrates Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I'd love another vehicle because it'd probably be from the 30's, and I'm quite into that sort of thing. Quote
peterab Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Really? I kind of think a few well-designed vintage vehicles could add a nice atmosphere to the modular street. I agree with Svelt on this. If I wanted vehicles, there are plenty of official sets already. If I wanted vintage ones in particular, and the Indiana Jones and Adventurer ones are not enough, then I'd look to Flickr etc. There are far more good vehicle designs out there than good modular house designs. When I buy a modular building, the building is important to me. I'd hate to see future modular buildings simplified just to include a vehicle in the piece count. Quote

I'd hate to see future modular buildings simplified just to include a vehicle in the piece count. peterab has it dead on. That was my suspicion with 10197, certainly, with the inclusion of the vehicle but simplification of the overall design. We have so many vehicle sets across all themes - it's nice to devote all design resources to making the modular set as beautiful as possible rather than splitting the parts budget to other priorities. For example, look at the Wind Turbine Transport set - instead of recreating an amazing Vestas-like turbine with a little house, we got a stumpy cylinder with a massively long truck! Kids love vehicles, so they go in everything - let's leave this line for the AFOLs! Anyway, I don't really think Lego would include a lorry in a department store set. Maybe a future modular apartment where a young couple are moving in furniture etc, but not here. Deliveries are usually made at the rear of a building, and the modular series is largely about frontage! It wouldn't fit. Hopefully we won't have too long to wait to find out! Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 An old style delivery van in the stores colour's and logo on the side would be good. Back 70 years ago department stores would even deliver a pair of shoes to a customer willing to pay the delivery charge. Also a taxi either a black British cab or a classic Yellow Cab from the 1930's would be handy to have parked out the front. I am a bit of a department store/retail chain history buff. Quote

Right, why not add to that a rickshaw or something else just for the sake of it... that would leave us with a "Modular" done in City Corner style. I agree 110% with Svelte & Co. here - no vehicles in modulars please. I'd have absolutely no problem with LEGO releasing a nice, detailed minifig-scale vehicle as a Factory or any other kind of separate stand-alone model. In fact I'd most probably end up buying it, since detailed and realistic-looking minifig-scale vehicles are actually few and far between. However, having one of those doesn't have to be at the expense of the quality provided by Modulars - I'd rather end up MOCcing all the vehicles in my town on my own (quite happily!) than having no more spectacular Modulars. Svelte Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I agree 110% with Svelte & Co.... Haha! Now my department store has a name! Thanks Otters! Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Haha! Now my department store has a name! Thanks Otters! Now you only need a logo for your store. Besides if a vehicle came with it would have been spoken of in the first few posts. We are yet to see any images so we are only quessing. But Svelte & Co, I like it, gives me ideas to make a old fashioned country drapery store (forrunner of the modern department store) in the modular style and classic style while I'm at it . Quote
MetroiD Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Haha! Now my department store has a name! Thanks Otters! Glad I could help! I'd actually recommend Svelte, Lithe & Co., although that might sound a bit like a lawyers' firm A lawyers' firm comprising of some very slender colleagues *sorry for the off-topic Quote
Mirandir Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Sorry to dissapoint thoose that wish for a car but there is none in the set... Quote
Freddie Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Yay! (Yeah, I also want the entire brick-budget going towards the building) Quote
ktbflyfish Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) I sure hope the news is true concerning the release of this set. However, my wallet isn't so sure. I also want to get the Emperial Flagship and I am ready for a new train set as well. Edited November 9, 2009 by ktbflyfish Quote
Captain M Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I saw the photo for the upcoming set. It looks fake. Why? If you take a look at all of the other modular buildings made by Lego over the past few years, what do you notice? It's the minifigures; they all have the old smile type of face. This one set doesn't. I don't know, it could be fake. It might be a new line of modular building sets. That part just stood out the most to me. Quote

Rick Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Are you sure you didn't see Svelte's modular? Quote

wooootles Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 muwahaha, look at 3 or 4 people quickly respond. I guess I'm not the only one with a knee-jerk reaction to click at this thread everytime there's a new post. Quote
Legoliner Pilot Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I think I may have found a picture of it, but the model is covered by a black blinding curtain with a white Question mark on it. For those who want to know, it is from the video were Jamie Berard announced the Emerald Night. Here it is: Sorry for the low quality, Youtube, MS Paint, and Photobucket are all contributors to that. Svelte Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 There was a lot of speculation about the 'black box' at the time this video appeared. The consensus was that the mystery building was the Fire Brigade. The timing is really the key. The video was done in Feb/ March, when even the Fire Brigade hadn't been officially announced yet Quote

At first I thought that too- what was that thing pointing the curtain up? None other than the bell tower. For the people who have seen real pictures of the set- may you please stop being so vague? Can you at least give us a little more info or even a picture (that would be !!!)? I don't really mind if you can't speak English that well or if you can't give away any more info due to confidentiality issues, but if you could, that would be nice. No offense to anyone. I'm not saying you have to, but if you did, that would be nice. Edited November 17, 2009 by Legoliner Pilot Quote
wooootles Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Yeah, we can't get anyone on the internet to spill the beans to early, and they're doing a mighty fine job doing just that. Google just keeps bouncing me back on this thread, or Svelte's MOC. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 That's Fire Brigade for sure. Quote
