Yeah, story's too convoluted. My fanon ended back in 2008, with Mata Nui battling Makuta inside the universe (in my fanon, Mata Nui is pretty much just a Makuta, except without the evulz, and a light blue colour instead of antidermis' green/black.)

Bara Magna started out great. It really did. But then they started tying it in, and it all went downhill from the point where it was revealed that that was where the Great Beings were from...

I'd appreciate a complete reboot.

Bara Magna was never supposed to be a reboot.

-ZotS

True, but they made it look like it was. I'm expecting Summer 2010 to be the reboot, if not a different line completely. I GOT IT!!! SLIZERS REBOOT!!!

Well, it would work, wouldn't it?

Posted
I would have higher expectations if the reboot was in Winter 2011.

Slizers, Roboriders, Bionicle crossover?

-ZotS

I'd love it. It would be the return of '02-'03 Bionicle!!!

I said 2002-2003 because those two years seemed to me like the perfect mix of Technic and Action Figures, at least in the titans anyways....

Eventhough I am very saddened by this, I'm not surprised. I think Bionicle should've ended a couple years ago, when they started running out of ideas. :sceptic:

They didn't run out of ideas: Lava land, underwater, skyways, foreign planet. These are generally overused ideas, but that's because kids love them, and all that any company really cares about is whether they're up or down in profit.

From what I have been told the only Bionicle sets for next year will re-releases of the best sellers of all time. After that like 2011 who knows, they could be playing games with us. Lego seem to enjoy teasing us with sets/designs either covered or tucked in the corner or even in the background of photos or promo video clips.

Sure, they love that, but guess what we don't have?

This looks like a moment for hasty, done in 5-minutes, Photoshop!

Well boy, it looks like I'm gonna have to put you down.

I think it's comin' to a close. Greg's lack of readiness to discuss the subject when he could before is a little unnerving.

Wow. I'm surprised that they could be so stupid. This is just the stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone do. This is worse than the recession.

Worse than the recession? You must be a die-hard Bionicle fan. I bought every green Bionicle at each release for a new weapon.

I personally think the recession is worse though :hmpf:

Thanks for continuing it here Makuta Plasmix, I've moved your other topic away. :classic:

Anyway, it's good to finally hear confirmation of what we've suspected for a while, but it's a pity that it's actually happening. :sadnew:

It's also a pity that the article didn't say anything we didn't know such as at least the name of the new theme, let alone even naming Ben 10 (which we already know). :sceptic:

On the bright side though, we'll almost certainly be hearing about Bota Magna and it's Plant-Agori. :sweet:

Worse than the recession?

It's stupid that they are chosing to do this now in a recession without any clear cash-cow, back-up line to replace it.

Yes thank you! Bionicle the theme that should have ended many years ago. I mean seriously after repeating the same ideas year after year and then creating more and more repetative story you have to get bored. I know some people will probably flame me and say Star Wars is just the same but I must admit I have a fairly moderate Bionicle Collection containing some of the more vintage sets.

The originals were great, a fresh story line, exciting characters a new island that hasn't had 50 odd remakes with slightly different names ! The Bionicle line introduced a lot of great <insert that tiresome argument> new parts too.

So all in all I wont be sad to see this line dissapearing in the near future.

Well, everything gets more boring overtime. 10 years isn't nearly as long as the SW sets, which are indeed all repeats of each other (glad that's ending soon too, so overpriced!). Then again, I don't think you AFOLs care that much about story and just dislike the building system in general.

Although there presently are no plans for more sets, the BIONICLE story is not ending. BIONICLEstory.com will remain an active site, with new story content updated by long-time BIONICLE writer Greg Farshtey. In addition, LEGO Group hopes to work with you, the fans, to continue to grow and expand the BIONICLE story universe.

This bodes well for the story. No more having to work so many sets in.

Also FANS WOO.

Sucks about the sets, though, but on the other hand I'll have more money for kewl SYSTEM sets.

They only dislike the building system because they don't know how to use it. ;)

They? Whois they?

AFOLs?

Well since you signed up on this site, then you must be one too.

Or perhaps you're not old enough to be around?

Just thought I'd "deeplink" the statement linked earlier:

Dear BIONICLE Fans,

In reviewing the business across all of its play patterns and properties, the LEGO Group faced a tough question: should we take on a new creative challenge in the world of buildable figures that we pioneered in 2001?

BIONICLE re-invented the way consumers think of and play with the LEGO system. Through many chapters of compelling story and innovative product development, BIONICLE became a very strong property and an important part of The LEGO Group’s business. We think there is a significant opportunity to grow the buildable figure category, but it will take a more flexible platform that appeals to a wider range of ages through a variety of different entry points than BIONICLE has proven to deliver.

The easy decision would be to stick with a known entity in BIONICLE; but as history has proven, The LEGO Group achieves its greatest success by embracing the uncertainty that innovation brings. After all, BIONICLE almost never launched because it was such a big risk to the company’s way of doing business.

Because you have been such an important part of building the BIONICLE franchise and have been among its most valued fans, we are writing to tell you that the six BIONICLE Stars launching in January will be the last BIONICLE sets for the foreseeable future. Beginning in summer 2010, The LEGO Group will debut a new, more flexible buildable figure property created by the same people who brought you BIONICLE. At the same time, we are also expanding the category to appeal to a younger audience through an established third-party property, starting in January.

Since its beginning, BIONICLE has reflected the union of great product and a compelling story.

This was an extremely difficult decision for all involved. But as seen in the tales of the Toa, striving for success in any mission requires imagination, new ways of thinking, and the willingness to take risks. We hope you will share the same level of enthusiasm we have for our plans for the buildable figure category.

We invite you to remain a part of the BIONICLE universe—a universe you have helped to build, and that we are confident that you will continue to build—in the future. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the BIONICLE and LEGO brands.

With our very best regards,

Jan Faltum, Global BIONICLE Director

Lincoln Armstrong, Senior Brand Manager, BIONICLE Team Member since 2002

I think there is a misunderstanding.

At the time when Bionicle first started, AFOLs didn't like Bionicle (and those same AFOLs still don't). DV and I were not AFOLs at the time, but we still refer to those AFOLs as AFOLs. We don't belong to that AFOL category.
