:cry_sad: In the legends book #2 Dark Destiny the crazy Av-Matoran said that there were six canisters so darkness wouldn't come. . . I think they might have made the seventh canister, after all the end of BIONICLE forshadows (pun unintended) the end of the world. BIONICLE was the theme that got me interested in LEGO in general. I have every book and at least 1 set of 6 from each year. I have kept all the canisters/boxes and even wrote some of my own stories in my own BIONICLE universes. I even have 2 whole notebooks full of my BIONICLE drawings and stories, in fact I think I might post some of them some time. It wouldn't be Christmas (26 days) without a BIONICLE sitting under the tree. Every time a character was in the story but not a set I made him/her/it out of my spare parts. Without BIONICLE I wouldn't be posting this (not just because the subject is BIONICLE), after all, this is a LEGO fansite and without BIONICLE I wouldn't have gotten my giant tub of LEGO or all my awsome LEGO sets and I wouldn't have signed up for, let alone heard of, Eurobricks. Without BIONICLE where would BZPower be? I'll tell you where, nowhere. It is a BIONICLE fansite after all. Without BIONICLE what would be LEGO's #1 theme on the websites product page? :cry_sad::cry_happy: For something positive to end on I suppose the new, more flexible line will open more opportunities for my MOCing of non-set story characters, e.g. Baterra, Female Skrall, Alphamale Vorox, ect. :cry_sad: I wish BIONICLE would end with a Matoran Universe Mata Nui set instead of 6 stars. :cry_sad: At least the story will continue, that is, after all my favorite part. Now I can catch up on my sets. :cry_happy::cry_sad: First Pirates (got over that already, still sad though) now BIONICLE (never going to get over that), what's next? :cry_sad:

:cry_sad: Goodbye BIONICLE, you will be sorely missed... :cry_sad:

:cry_sad: Why,LEGO,why?.. :cry_sad:

I figured as much but I thought I'd be helpful and offer a suggestion :P

There is more to Lego than just Bionicle. And action based figures. :P

As for generic personalities, I thought the Mata were the most so. Honestly, they were all cookie-cutter archetypes and you can describe them all in one word:

Tahu: Brave.

Gali: Calm.

Onua: Wise.

Kopaka: Cold.

Lewa: Hyper.

Pohatu: Friendly.

Not saying they weren't developed at all, but they all seemed like extremes of various character types--then again, it was fitting for the introduction of BIONICLE, where the island of Mata Nui was obviously composed of a jungle, ice place, volcano, desert, dark mines, and water village. I really think that, although they have seemed to be far more watered down over the years, some lines of characters were indeed well-developed, far more so than the first Toa. What I'm saying is that BIONICLE has always been generic in terms of story in some way or another. The complication of the story 2003-on was really what got me into the line. 2001 was fun and all with the jungles and volcanoes and biomechanical warriors but I really can't see from an '01ist standpoint. The 2001 story seemed to be the most childish of them all, and didn't even have too much of a sense of mystery. I mean, sure, Mata Nui and Makuta were sorta mysterious in terms of their pasts, but they were predictable at best--a benevolent god and his evil brother in a power struggle, evil brother gets revenge, six warriors fight dark monsters. I hardly saw any questions posed in 2001, which does not make it a mystery. Mysterious, perhaps, but no mysteries started to pop up until 2003 (i.e. origins of the Turaga, the Avohkii, what lies beyond the island of MN, etc.)

And that's about all I have to say on the subject. Hope it makes sense, I don't have time to proofread and I'm dead tired as it is.

Yeah, the original Toa were the most under developed. The Metru each had their own ways of growing and learning, and their character development is what made '04 my favorite BIONICLE year. ('05 messed it up a bit though. It had promise to give the characters even more depth when presented with becoming monsters, but they screwed it up by turning Vakama evil and focusing on his 'development'.)

But the Inika were incredibly well-developed. Especially Matoro, Jaller and Hahli. Matoro had the whole 'Ignika testing him' thing, while feeling that he shouldn't be a Toa. Once he begins to take command of the team when they become Mahri, Jaller even gets jealous of him. And there's even a pseudo love-triangle between Jaller, Matoro and Hahli implied around the Mahri-Nui arc. In fact, there was an entire web serial dedicated to Matoro's development.

(Of course all character development plots were killed in '08 when the Nuva had already gone through their 'character development', and were just pretty boring. Then '09 had a great premise for character development with every single character, but the movie absolutely MURDERED that premise. It even regressed Gresh.)

So the personalities of a few Toa teams have been really deep, while others were just shallow and couldn't be changed. But I wouldn't call any of the characters since the Metru-Nui arc 'generic'. At least not any of the main set heroes. Side characters and bad guys get pretty generic a lot . . .

That's exactly my thought too.

Althought I think it doesn't make much money for Lego anymore..

Bionicle isnt making much money because the sets got smaller and the prices got higher! a bohrok was what... 7 bucks? now the normal toa are priced higher. the mistika sets were all 12.99! what happened to 9.99? and if i were in charge, i would make bionicle story go into one of the many alternate universes. maybe toa empire or the kingdom. and they shld really make every guy mentioned. maybe dark hunters made into sets. i talk too much. just remember what i said.

That happened to all toys, and for that matter most products. It's called inflation. LEGO can't do anything about it, and it has nothing to do with the end of BIONICLE-- otherwise, ''all'' LEGO themes would be ending for the exact same reason.

Also, your comment is no reason whatsoever to revive a topic that's over seven months old.

Please avoid re-viving old topics (8 months old in this case), and especially do not do that if you have such an attitude.

Since the end of the Bionicle theme is a reality and no more a discussion topic, I'll close this thread.
