Last year (as well as 2006), we had a It was a Dark and Stormy Night... We (at least I) had pretty fun, so I´d like to start a new one for 2009 as well.

(The following are mostly copy/pasted from TheBricksters -08 thread)

The rules of the game are pretty simple:

Each person/participant adds a single line to the story. The story goes anywhere and it's a lot of fun.

One thing to remember: try to be witty, but try not to get too crazy/bizarre. You want to keep the story flowing and give the next person a lead to add something creative. Check out the 2008 link above if you're not familiar with how to go about adding good content.

Also, if you want to write something off-topic, please write it in a different colour, eg. red, blue, green etc.

So, it seems like I´m the one getting the honour to start the game this time ( ):

It was a Dark and Stormy Night...

... the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.

- Edward Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton, Paul Clifford (1830)

Perhaps, instead of starting a Halloween story in the post Halloween period, we could instead devote ourselves to literary pursuits of another kind...

The Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest!

Past winners!

Just an idea, feel free to ignore and carry on, I couldn't let the opportunity pass without promoting one of my favourite online literary contests.

That´s an interesting idea Shadows, but if you don´t mind, I´d like to stick to the original idea. :classic:

Also, if you (read: anyone) wants to write something off-topic, like you did, please write it in a different colour. Thanks.

Shadows, I've heard of the Bulwar-Lytton contest before, and I think that it would be great fun. Perhaps a different thread? Or maybe we could do a dual contest in here, writing the story on top on black and our B-L entries down here in another color. Just a suggestion...

Tereglith, that´s a good idea with another thread with the contest. IMO if we did it in the same thread it would be too messy.

Yes, it probably would be too confusing. But where would the new thread go? This is barely trains and town related, and a Bulwar-Lytton competition thread would be even less so. It' would probably have to go into culture and multimedia
