Captain Blackmoor Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Marvellous! Not even close... An outstanding creation again DNL! Your best castle till now IMO! The landscaping is great, and the castle's architecture is awesome. We haven't even spoken about the details! No doubt that would look nice on a shelf in my bedroom... Quote
Brickmaster Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I can undoubtedly say that is some of the best rock work I have ever seen. This is inspiring. Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Ive always considered you to be imo the best castle builder ive come across. I like how you go for the more realistic natural look. Theres not much i can say that hasnt already been said about this castle, great work. I think you've done everything that can be achieved with the standard grey walls technique, ever thought about using flat 1x1 rounds for walls to get a much higher level of detail? Check out my church to see what i mean. I'd love to see a castle built with that technique Quote
DNL Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) Thanks everyone! I'm very curious about those coiling green plants in the lower part of the third picture, are that those plastic pieces that comes with this plant piece that you normally just throw away? If so, very clever use! Yes, those are made of those plastic rings. I had been trying to find a good use for those for a while, and this is what i came up with. How many castles are you gonna make after this one? A lot For the CCCVII i will make at least one more whole castle, and right now i'm working on a realistic scaled gatehouse (with 5 studs thick walls) Btw: Did you have some pics of a real existing castle as antetype or did you "only" build how you wanted to look it like? Did you plan the castle and the landscape before building it? How long took it to build the whole layout?Klaus-Dieter This is in fact my first castle that is inspired by a real castle. It is inspired by the castle of Boulbon in southern france. Here are some pics: ONE TWO THREE It's hard to see on the pictures how imposing that castle ruin is, it's located on a huge rock, and can be seen from far away. As you can see the MOC turned out to look quite different from the real castle, but as you can see on the first picture there are some similarities. I think you've done everything that can be achieved with the standard grey walls technique, ever thought about using flat 1x1 rounds for walls to get a much higher level of detail? Check out my church to see what i mean. I'd love to see a castle built with that technique It does look nice, but i think it would make a castle look too fragile. A castle's walls should be strong, but if they are made of a lot of those 1x1 round plates it would seem weaker. Although it would be nice for a building inside a castle's walls to add some variation. Daniel Edited November 9, 2009 by DNL Quote
