1050ccm producing 132 HP @ 9100 RPM.

Mere digits, but they convey most of what the Triumph Speed Triple is about. That is -- raw power. And real British pride.

360upside.jpg

As one of the world's most celebrated naked / streetfighter motorcycles, the Speed Triple has long been a respected feature and a contemporary fashion icon of sorts in Triumph's line-up. With this one, the idea is brilliantly simple: you either adore it or you're driven away by its design. As you could expect, it has long been one of my most favourite bikes. Ever.

360view3.jpg

Its most distinct features, as re-designed and introduced back in 2005, are undoubtedly the bike's ever-present double round headlamps and the beefy upward-bent cut-off exhaust tailpipes (reference pic). Those were also the pillars on which I've tried to base my MOC of this wonderful motorcycle. Underneath that muscular body is a unique "heart" that pumps out of 3 chambers instead of 4, which is the norm in inline motorcycle engines. The inline-three-engine, which has become a trademark of norm-defying Triumph engineering down the years, lends the bike an unmistakable sound coming out of those chunky pipes - and a top-notch performance to go along with that.

Clean white is a rare colour as far as motorcycle patterns are concerned and one of the few colours in which the Speed Triple has made multiple appearances over the years. Obviously, Triumph thought that this bike was bold enough to sport the "clean 'n mean" look. And sales figures have proven that their presumption was spot on.

Don't be deceived, this one is not a "girly-bike" by a long shot. In fact, its aggressive nature, especially in the low range, turns this one into quite a monster - but it is still a rather tamable monster and one that can provide you with a fun, exciting and unbelievably agile ride. Judging by this bike's heavy looks, you probably wouldn't believe it, but it scales in at just below 190kgs, which is quite impressive. Seems like Anne here has managed to get a firm grip on those 190 kilos - and Joe the Biker has finally found a kindred soul to roam the roads with!

A size comparison between my two Triumphs - as you could expect, their dimensions are pretty matched up. Despite that, I had to make sure that the Daytona still feels lower to the ground than the Speed Triple, as in real life.

This last pic of our happy bikers couple is also a link to my other Triumph minifig-scale bike, the Daytona 675.

Thank you guys! Yeah, I enjoy building minifig-scale bikes - I hadn't built one for quite a long time, but now that the inspiration is back, I guess I'll be starting work on a few other machines as well pretty soon. That said, I can't imagine any other bike requiring so many "weird" solutions as I've used here for the Speed Triple :)

The exhaust on this is so well thought out.

Thanks Cam :) Actually the most "thought out" part of this MOC were the headlights. Getting those right was crucial and also the first thing I set off to do before building anything else. Only after that did I start work on the body, and the exhaust pipes sort of just... happened. I didn't really struggle to get the structure right, I was just sure I had to have something that resembles the Speed Triple's original pipes as closely as possible. After mounting these on the bike, I realised that the construction is actually the same one which Pirate MOCcers use to depict shooting cannons. Funny how many uses LEGO pieces can have

P.S. Here's a little "gift" to all Speed Triple fans around here... And a confirmation as to just what the Triple is capable of :)

Great one! I love this bike of yours, while matching it with your earlier black bike. Both of them sure look sleek and powerful in terms of its speed and built.

I truly enjoy viewing these bikes and glad to see you coming back to share some of your creations.

See you around.

Great work!

I'm a bit ignorant about motorbikes but it looks very like the source material. I particularly like the white colour scheme - it contrasts nicely with the black and the transition is very natural.

Keep up the good work! :classic:

Great work, bikers

Still an all time classic bike the Triumph. :sweet:

Keep it up. Do you take requests by any chance? I'm way too clumsey for this.

Wow, a blog and a frontpage! I'm honoured, WF & Brickster, thanks a mill guys  That was a wonderfuly surprise, especially seeing as I hadn't MOCced anything for so long...

Thanks mate, great to hear from you again :) I did actually try to make the transition even smoother by using cheese pieces but then I'd have to ditch a few details and that was not an option. Glad you like it!

Do you take requests by any chance?

Yup, most definitely! Challenge accepted, what's your pick? I personally was planning on doing a green ZXR 400 next, but would most definitely take on any challenge you might throw my way... In fact, it would be great fun for me!

The latter applies to all of you bike fans :) If anyone would like to have their favourite motorcycle built in minifig scale, just gimme a heads up ;]

I was thinking about my own bike as seen here and here: H-D FXDF Fat Bob.

Nice Otters

I like them both!

I think that you should maybe change the green visor of Anne's helmet to another colour, maybe black.

Just my thoughts though.

Great job and the bikes are very nicely made!:thumbup:

Can I just say that I love what you've done to your bike!! I've (obviously) always been a huge fan of the double round headlamps :] I'll give this a thought and let you know how it's coming together. Mind you, the front end of your bike does resemble the front of a Triumph Rocket III quite a bit, so I hope you won't be too disappointed if I end up doing that too... I'm a Triumph fan, what can I do

Thanks for the nice words Commander :] I did actually try out lots of different helms and visors for Anne and eventually I decided that a fiery pattern would be a nice hint as to her nature... The light green/yellow visor was supposed to complement the yellow fiery pattern and besides I wanted her face to still be seen beneath the visor, which is why I didn't use black. But thanks for the hint :sweet:

I especially like the girl rider :tongue:

Thanks Mancoco  (you gotta admit it, Eilif has a unique sense of humour :D) Glad all of you guys liked the fifth element here - after all, it was about time that Joe the Rider finally found a companion! Bikes aside, I hope you won't mind if I use some inspiration from your avatar for an upcoming MOC of mine, Macoco :]]]

Great Bike.

Way better than the new Official Lego version!

Thanks mate ;) The only problem I have with the new official "sportsbike" mould (apart from it being unified, naturally) is that it's a bit too high and short. Other than that, it's a nice change from the good ol "80s bike", but a man's gotta have some choice, even when it comes to motorcycles in LEGO world, right?
