kabel Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 hi there, i just recently stumbled across the 7197 set and really like the boats. however, since i don't care much for the indy theme i was wandering, whether it was possible to use the hull pieces in order to build smaller ships for the pirate theme. maybe something like the trading ship oder a small one masted pirate ship. so here's my question: do you think that the parts are usefull or would ít be a waste of money to buy the set? and has anyone attemted something like this before? Etzel Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 I have tried to build a sort of big canoe using those hull pieces and it's not a total disaster I don't have any pictures right now but I might include it in my next MOC and show you then. The problem is that they are only 6 wide which is quite small for a sailing ship. But for a boat with oars or paddles I think it can be good. I wish this piece came in inverted form because then it would be easy to make the hull wider. On a side note, these hull pieces has been used in another ship set before: 8821 Rogue Knight Battleship. Maybe not the most realistic ship but it shows that it's possible to make a decent small sized ship. Anyway, the 7197 Venice Canal Chase is a great parts pack with nice colours. All the dark tan should be very useful in many Pirate MOCs so I recommend you buy it. The minifigs are popular so if you don't want them you might be able to sell or trade them pretty easily. Quote
Rick Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 I wish this piece came in inverted form because then it would be easy to make the hull wider. You mean this one? But to get back to the question that started the topic: aren't you better off buying those hull pieces on Bricklink? Licensed sets tend to be relatively expense and you'll be stuck with those fleshies ( ), although those Indy sets tend to have nice pieces in good colors. So I guess that if you want to buy the set for the pieces it's all about price versus interesting pieces to you (versus the cost of those interesting pieces on Bricklink). Quote
kabel Posted November 5, 2009 Author Posted November 5, 2009 well, i have to say that i really like most of the parst in this set, especially the ark and all the brown pieces, i just saw the set for 35 euros and i was tempted, however, i have to admit that the fleshy minifig heads look rather crappy, altough the mustaches are quite cool Quote
Etzel Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 You mean this one? Oops! Can't believe I missed that. Well, all I can complain about now is that it doesn't come in reddish brown Quote
Tom Bricks Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 This is what I used in my yet to be posted PTVII entry so yes I do like them as pirate ship hulls. Quote
