Posted November 6, 200915 yr So I was creating some pirate minifigs today and started noticing a lot of similarities between old and new torso's. Just like LEGO updated the old torso's. I've created this image with some help of bricklink photo's. Check it out: So what's going on? Did LEGO update the old torso's? Are the new torso's merely inspired by the old ones? Is it just a coinsidense? Am I just seeing what I want to see? What is your opinion about this! Let me know!
November 6, 200915 yr I think they are just new ones but inspired by the old versions. The same goes for every new pirate set. (For example: brickbeards bounty = the black sea barracuda) Where did you get the blue torso with the belt? I can't remember having it while I have every new pirate set up till now.

What is your opinion about this! Let me know! I think it's as much a coincidence as the similarities in the sets of the initial years of Pirates I and II (1989 and 2009). In other words: I think the Pirates II torsos are heavily inspired by/'updated' from the Pirates I torsos. So: You are not 'seeing things'.
November 6, 200915 yr Agreed, LEGO looked at all the old figs and used them as a starting point for their new torsos. Makes perfect sense to me.

November 6, 200915 yr This set LOL, the reviews are not too good for that set, seems like it's a $10 minifig.

November 6, 200915 yr The minifig torso's are certainly inspired by the old 'classic' one's, that is pretty obvious IMHO.
November 6, 200915 yr When I first saw these I was really impressed by how LEGO were inspired by the original line, since it means the new and old sets display together very nicely.
November 6, 200915 yr I think that the new torso's are much much better than the old ones. The depth of the print is so much better, it looks like there is actual clothing on them, instead of just printing. LEGO did the right thing by taking certain details from the originals, you know what it is, it just looks better! Long over due but thatnks to the OP for making this little comparision chart, it's nice to have them all nsext to each other for our viewing pleasure
November 7, 200915 yr The new torsos are definitely updates of the old ones. I like the idea very much Do you think it's a dumb idea or are you dissapointed in some way? You sound like it, badboytje88
November 7, 200915 yr I want make topic like this, but not only for torsos... There are many faces, torsos and even hairs that looks just like updated and pimped versions of old ones.
November 7, 200915 yr Author The new torsos are definitely updates of the old ones.I like the idea very much Do you think it's a dumb idea or are you dissapointed in some way? You sound like it, badboytje88 Oh I'm not disappointed at all! I love the new pirate set line, and the minifigs are just lovely. I just was amazed at the similarities when I held the two 'brown vest with tattoo on chest' torsos next to each other. And then I started to compare all new torsos wit old ones. Noticing even more similarities. So I started wondering if they were truly based on the old torsos or if I were just seeing what I wanted to see.
November 7, 200915 yr I also really love the new line of Pirates. I really hope to win the PTVII contest in the small category, as I don't have the Pirate Shipwreck Hideout
November 11, 200915 yr Thanks for posting the pics, I had only noticed the soldiers and pirate capt before.. nice work
November 23, 200915 yr They definitely look like the updated versions of old torsos, and there's nothing wrong with that! Even some entire minifigs look like updates of old ones (the pirate captain being the most obvious example).
