JimBee Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Have you ever been so careless that you forgot to log off of Eurobricks after going to do something else? I have! I left my computer on, with myself logged on to Eurobricks when I went to do something else for a few minutes. Forgetting I left my computer like that, I went to bed, and when I came home the next day, in the afternoon (about 19 hours later), I was shocked to see that my comp. was already turned on with Eurobricks. Hopefully no one thought I was on that whole time. This wasn't the first time. So, has this ever happened to you? For how long? It would be interesting if someone left on on over vacation. EDIT: What is meant by this is that if you leave your computer on, with a window with EB open. NOT when you don't log off and close Eurobricks. Quote
Izzy Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I fail to see how that could be embarresing. I NEVER log off. But I am always on here anyways so it doesn't make a difference. Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I usually log off, but I'm trying to stop. It's becoming tedious logging on everyday to post/send a pm, when I keep forgetting I haven't logged on! Quote
Ricecracker Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I always stay logged on, because I use my own computer. Though I don't think it shows you on the frontpage unless you are connected to the internet with Eurobricks open in your web browser. Quote
JCC1004 Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 (edited) I don't log off but I've forgotten to close my web browser. I rarely leave my computer on all night. The only time I have is when I'm too tired or something urgent has came up. I open up new tabs with my browser and leave EB on one so I don't forget what I was looking at. Luke McAwesome Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I think I've only actually logged out twice since I joined. Odd, isn't it? Quote
Big Cam Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I don't think it shows you as online and active unless you are actively doing things. Either way, I never log out. At home, at work, on my phone. Luckily I use the same password for all the forums I'm apart of. Quote
The Who Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I make sure that I log out every single time I come to Eurobricks. I think I'm just paranoid. Quote
JimBee Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 Sorry, I wasn't clear on that. I never log out, either, but I meant leaving the window open, so that you do show up on the online users list. I'm saying that I left myself logged on, with Firefox open on the EB Frontpage for 19 hours. I'll edit the first post to clarify this. Quote
RileyC Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) I always quit out of safari if im getting off the computer. Though if I do it accidentally I just reopen all windows from last session. Its a life saver. I dont think I have ever logged off before ever Edited November 7, 2009 by Roncanator Quote
filip skywalker Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) I almost never log off. I use internet on a small laptop, so I only close down the screen. It keeps me logged on 25/7. EDIT: 24/7... Edited November 7, 2009 by filip skywalker Quote
Shadows Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Log off? What is this 'log off' of which you speak? As for sitting on the frontpage for 19 hours, it didn't show for 19 hours, there is a certain amount of time after which a lack of activity will tell IPB that you aren't actually using the site. 15 minutes, I think. In other words, we wouldn't have known if you hadn't told us, and we don't particularly care since we're all here anyway. Quote
Siegfried Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Sorry, I wasn't clear on that. I never log out, either, but I meant leaving the window open, so that you do show up on the online users list. I'm saying that I left myself logged on, with Firefox open on the EB Frontpage for 19 hours. I'll edit the first post to clarify this. It actually doesn't make a difference in most browsers unless you have the page set to auto-load. For the record though, I never log off if using my own computer... which is 99.999% of the time. Also, logged on or not, you're "off-line". Quote
Luke McAwesome Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Also, logged on or not, you're "off-line". What? O' crazy bucket walrus, what does thoust meaneth by this claim? Do you mean to say we stay logged in, but close out Eurobricks on our desktop/laptop? Quote

In other words, we wouldn't have known if you hadn't told us, and we don't particularly care since we're all here anyway. Really? I suppose that makes sense, because I did see my name on the online users list when I came back, but that's because I never refreshed the page. So everyone else, after 15 minutes, wouldn't see that I'm online? That's a neat feature. True, it's just that sometimes if people take too long posting (I can tell if there are dashed lines beneath their name), I wonder if they're actually on the computer or not. It actually doesn't make a difference in most browsers unless you have the page set to auto-load. For the record though, I never log off if using my own computer... which is 99.999% of the time. -JD- Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I clicked 'Remeber Me', so I don't have to bother typing in my password every time. Quote
simonjedi Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Same as JD. Everytime i open the forums i'm logged in. Unless i clear my history/cookies. Quote
JimBee Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 As I said a couple of posts ago, I don't mean "log off", I mean when you leave yourself on EB. Please read the first post for clarification. Quote
Siegfried Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 What? O' crazy bucket walrus, what does thoust meaneth by this claim? Do you mean to say we stay logged in, but close out Eurobricks on our desktop/laptop? What I was saying was that JimButcher was not on the "Online Users" list at the time of my post, nor is he now. Sorry for being confusing. As I said a couple of posts ago, I don't mean "log off", I mean when you leave yourself on EB. Please read the first post for clarification. Yes, I read it. I always have a page or two from EB open; right now I have 6. But if I go away for a while EB sees me as being offline. So there is no chance of someone thinking you are active. Being logged on simply means that there is a cookie on your computer that matches a hash on the EB server. When you log out that cookie is removed. (It also expires over time.) At this time I'm logged on to EB with at least three computers. But EB cares nothing about this when determining the "Online Users" list. It's all about activity, that is, the last time you clicked on any EB link while logged on. Quote
Milan Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 MY EB widow is usually open all day long. So I am on EB practically all day...actually only hour or two... but I would not care what would others think even if I would be on EB 24/7! Quote
JimBee Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 Yes, I read it. I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to JD and simonjedi, who gave me the impression that they thought I was talking about actually logging out. I always have a page or two from EB open; right now I have 6. But if I go away for a while EB sees me as being offline. So there is no chance of someone thinking you are active. After 15 minutes, if you don't click a link on EB, you don't show up on the online users list. Got it. Quote
Mraz Skintas Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I never log off of EB or my computer. It goes into hibernation mode, but all I have to do then is wake it up. It's my personal laptop, and no one touches it but me, so I see no point in logging off. I also always have EB open in a tab, so I guess I would be on all the time... -'Skintasee Quote
-JD- Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) I was just saying that I do not need to log off, because it does it automatically over time. Once though, I did leave EB on for a few hours. But after about 10 minutes, the system logs me out anyhoo, but not on my screen. I find it hard to explain...
