After looking around for a similar thread, I have not found one. This is the thread to talk about guitars, help others with tricks and such. Anything about the stringed instrument.

To start off:

I have started guitar playing in mid March. I would consider myself somewhat good. My current guitar is an "Indian" Acoustic. Its a simple one, and works fine. I plan on getting the MTM2 Mick Thompson Signature Guitar. Does anyone know how it plays first hand?

And to end it off with a very cliche phrase: Rock On!

I love guitars, and the music they make.

I currently have four:

-1x 1990's-2000's Ibanez Gio (Electric only, looks like a Gibson SG)

-1x 1970 Univox (Electric/Acoustic, Looks like a double cutaway Gibson Casino)

-1x Epiphone Acoustic Guitar, from who knows what year

-1x Peavey Predator, (Electric only, almost an exact copy of a Fender Squire Stratocaster, no idea what year)

I am not a great player, I just 'mess around' every now and then. I play more on the Rock side, though I listen to most everything between Classic Rock and Heavy Metal.

The Ibanez works great, but if you don't have any pedals and no whammy bar, the plain old Ibanez amp sounds pretty monotone.

I plan on starting some lessons with a great teacher my friend knows as soon as possible, to get better. My cousin is amazing at guitar. He has a Dimebag Darryll (Spelling?) Washburn, plus several others and some Zakk Wylde amps that are some of the best I have ever heard.

My favorite is the jagstang, followed by the jaguar as a close second. Sadly I don't have much time to play lately.

I tried to learn to play guitar really hard for a quite some time, but then I saw the neighbor's motorcycle...

I have several guitars (one for metal, two for rock, one for jazz/blues and an acoustic):

- Gibson Xplorer (black finish)

- Gibson SG (Satin Gold finish - Raw Power edition )

- Fender Telecaster (blonde finish, "Road Worn" edition)

- Jay Turser Acoustic (black+red finish)

My first guitar was the acoustic - I've had it since I was twelve. I saved up my money, then went down south to buy my SG ( ). It turns out my parents had already purchased an Epiphone G-400 for me for christmas...so I sold it to get some money for a school trip. Last year, a friend sold me his Xplorer, but I personally am not a fan of the awkward styling (nice sound, though). My Teley is my most recent acquisition; I purchased it from the music store at a twenty-five percent discount because the guy on duty thought it was busted up (but that's just the finish). My fav of my guitars would have to be my SG - it's a beautiful machine with amazing sound.

That you're making good progress!

I play drums myself for 8 years now, and I have lots of respect for those who play on guitar.

It looks very difficult and hard to learn, but the results are wonderful. Without a guitar and drums a song is not a song.

My first guitar was an encore with practice amp (bb blaster), bag and so on and I have to say if your just starting out, it's a great kit. You won't need anymore for some time.

Later I graduated to a squire stratocaster (if you use one of those Jim Dunlop picks the wrong way round you get that "ching" soung which makes it sound very close to the real, 5 time more expensive fender startocaster). To this guitar I have added a fernandez (spelling?) sustainer and it's great. Think of the intro to U2's with or without you, it has those impossibly long guitar notes at the start. The sustainer does this perfectly.

Right now I have what I consider the best guitar of all time. A sunburst gibson ES335 historic 1963 re-issue. It sounds beautiful. My style of playing favors melody and making each note really sing over being the fastest guitarist in the west. This guitar is perfect for that. You hit a big bend right on the high end and it will sound like an angel having an ! I play it through a pod xt live pedal and vox ac15 custom classic amplifyer with blue speaker.

I play alot of Moody Blues and U2 and lots of other things. I'm trying to write and record an album. My first proper go at recording isn't that great but if you wanna laugh go to http://www.myspace.com/thebandknownasmisc and listen to my cover of Joan Osbourne's "One of us".

BTW not long found out there is another band already called misc so can anybody here think of a good name for a band?

Hey, great thread!

Here's my main guitars:

Left -> Right: G&L ASAT Special, Cole Clark Fat Lady 2, Cole Clark Strat, Lowden 010.

I use the G&L for rock, the Strat for softer sounds. The Cole Clark acoustic is my strumming guitar (in standard tuning), and the 1985 Lowden I use for fingerpicking. (in DADGAD tuning)

My pedalboard has been updated recently and now looks like this:

I switch the off-board pedal for whatever I need for the gig, usually fuzz, wah, compressor or phaser (all homemade)

I don't have pictures, but I use a Bassman clone head with a Mesa Boogie 4x10 cab. I have a Marshall JTM combo for smaller gigs, and I'm building a Vox AC-15 clone for a different sound.

Oh, and in responce to CommandFlash's original question about the Mick Thompson guitar. From what I can see that his guitars are made by Ibanez, a quality brand.

I recommend with any guitar you buy you should take it to a guitar technician to have it setup to your liking. A good can tech can lower the action, improve tuning stability, and make the guitar easy to play.

plus a Squier Precision Special, a really old Framus nylon string, and a really heavy Behringer Bass amp
