Sometimes when I build, I watch TV. I always build in front of the TV, but usually it's off. When building the Death Star, I have everything turned off so I can concentrate. Mostly I'm concentrating on not knocking it over.

So, do you have any building habbits? Eating? Clipping your toenails? Building?

Reveal your embarrassing side-steps here!

I usually watch TV while I build.. It sometimes results into loss of interest.. :hmpf_bad: But, sometimes.. I might listen to music, but not every time.. I sometimes eat to, when I'm hungry.. I ALWAYS have a drink, Either Coca-Cola or Water or Root beer... etc. And last... Texting.. It's a distraction, but small.. TV is more of a distraction.. Mainly because I watch the Sy-fy channel or something like that.. Watching or listening to movies while you build keeps you from getting bored of building.. Y'know?

Interesting topic.

I usually listen to the radio, it keeps me from getting annoyed if I messed up somewhere, or if I can't find a certain piece. I also sometimes whistle, or hum. I never eat while building- it takes away from building time and can get your Lego all grimy.

What's most distracting for me, though, is watching TV. It can take me over a half-hour to build a small, 100- piece set because I tend to actually watch the TV instead of building at the same time.

I've got a bad habit of sitting on floor while I build. I also like to have my satellite radio turned to classical. I usually have a coke or some tea to drink.

I always listen to classical music while I build- usually Bach or random Spanish/South American pieces. Usually it gets drowned out by the noise. However, when I pause, I usually hear a snippet of the melody.

Of course. I forgot to mention that. I almost never build on a table. Only when I'm building tall things where if I sit down I'm too short, but if I stand up I'm much too tall.

I ALWAYS build on the floor, on the carpet (I'm an outlaw breaking the law and the rules  ) , in front of the TV. I usually choose an "easy-listening" type of TV program. Not so distracting and not too irrelevant.

When it's winter I also have a hot cup of coffee next to me. During summer a cold icy Frappe.

Nice topic btw.

Exactly the same with me! I like listening the radio instead of my laptop, because then I don't need to choose what to play, and I don't need to think about it.

I usually have the TV on. I can remember while building Drawbridge Defense I was watching Bob Newhart. The wrinkling of the bags and snapping of bricks alone bothers me. I sometimes drink a pop or something. My cat has also jumped on my lap and made me drop the set.:tongue:

Well, I have music from my laptop, ES Posthumous, Anime Soundtracks, Vangelis, Enya. Something that sets a mood if I am MOCing. If I can't play music (like my annoying sibs are about) I'll hum a bit, some song I like at the time or something of that ilk.

I always sit on the floor, on the carpet. If it is a huge set I will have a board down as a solid base, but otherwise its bare carpet. I have a bad habit of twiddling my hair, it is about mid-back length, which means I have to pull strands out of MOCs and sets when I am finished or have paused.

Nothing else really.

Currently I listen to Radio 4 (a speech-based BBC station mostly of factual and current affairs). I wouldn't like a TV while I build, there's not even one in the room, I enjoy it as a quiet time.

Occasionally I switch over to music stations, usually when there's a bad play on. I might try Bach now though!

Excellent topic!

Well, I always have my PC running MLCad so I can build MOC form a program i have built before actual brick building.

Beside that, radio is or TV is always ON.

It makes building so much better!

I almost always listen to music when I build. I don't have a TV in the same room as my LEGO collection, but if I did I'm not sure if I would want to watch it while building, as I think I could be distracted by it too easily.

Occasionally I'll have a drink nearby, but I usually don't drink anything while building and don't eat. Food can get my hands sticky, and I'm afraid I'll spill something. Years ago I spilled a little bit of soda on my Black Falcons' Fortress. :cry_sad: It wasn't horribly bad, but I've been extra careful ever since.

I've got a stereo in my LEGO room. I gotta have the tunes going when I build, much more relaxing for me. No TV though, sets just seem to get really drawn out when that TV is on.

Well when I've bought a new set and am assemblin it, I'll build it on my bed with the tv on and a nice cool glass of water. I put my tv on so that my parents don't hear the sound of the rattling LEGO bricks as they are not too fond of my hobby! Whey I build a MOC, I need to get up to the attic where all my bricks are. I have my grey, dark grey, tan, black and sand green parts sorted on color so when I need just one part I'll dump the box out on a large blanket so i can easily put it back into the box using the blanket. I tend to allways have my mobile around, since I don't have a watch en tend to lose time while building.

It depends, really. If I build a set, I usually sit on the floor or by the dining table, only focused on the build!

I MOC at my desk, sometimes with the computer on.

Well, I almost always sing to myself when I build... usually something cheerful and relaxing, like Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry be Happy" or Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" - or hey, even Kiss's "Detroit Rock City". That's what I call relaxing! Woohoo! :P

Sometimes I'll bring up my laptop from downstairs into my bedroom, for say, when I'm making a specific, existing car, I'll need a reference picture. Of course, I have huge car photo encyclopedias scattered around my room, so it's usually not the case.

My mom also plays the piano downstairs, so sometimes I'll just sit quietly and listen to that. Classical music seems pretty relaxing when I'm making, for example, a pug dog (I'll post it here later!) instead of a blown muscle car. :)

Interesting topic. When I build I usually end up going back and forth between my build site and my computer, as I often need reference pics for details. Most of the time I have a small snack with me as well as an energy drink. My build site for large MOCs is a large fold out table, and for smaller MOCs and sets, my desk.

I always sit on the floor, sometimes with a board that attaches and unattaches to my desk and I will have my laptop in front of me with reference material and music playing from Itunes. If I don't need reference material I would just put on music or hum a tune.

The only weird habit i have is cleaning my room first including vacuming. I like building in a room that is clean and sometimes i put a sheet over my window (if it is real sunny out) Then i just build with the TV on and a snack, you know now im in the mood to build! :sweet:
