Ingmar Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Very interesting topic, I didn't think that it could be so useful to look back at what we do qhile building...There is nothing than building to do in my studio, but I sometimes listen to music, classic music is the best solution to keep concentrated, and most of the time I talk alone =) Quote
Spyder Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I have to have music on, playing on iTunes on my computer. I build in my room on the floor. It's kinda hard to not build there as that's what I'm used to, but I'm trying to construct a Lego room and start building on tables. Besides that, I don't have any gross habits, I'll be drinking something, but I don't eat while I build. That's a big no no. Sometimes I'll have a movie playing on my computer in the background instead of music. Quote
harrysnapperorgans Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I build kneeling on the carpet. Kills my back after a while, but the kitchen table is way too small. I like to have coffee or water on hand, and I'm fond of jazz on the stereo. I have a couple of plywood sheets about the size of a 32x48 baseplate which I use to build on when the carpet makes it difficult. Quote
Batbrick Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I build kneeling on the carpet. Kills my back after a while, I know what you mean man, it just hits me as soon as I stand up to go somewhere. I always build mocs in my room on the carpet with no distractions such as music (don't listen to music anyway really) or TV. However, sometimes I build with my beautiful cat Smokie in the room, who often stops me for a couple of seconds as she walks over what I'm building without knocking over anything, and will occasionally watch me. I also have an annoying tendency to be very slow making anything, I'm extremely specific as to how I want something to look, even colour wise and especially with the lines between bricks. Hence why it takes me so long ot post anything on here and why I always walk away from 2 hours work with something barely two bricks high. Batbrick Away! Quote
Tereglith Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 If I'm building an official set, I'll usually just sit cross-legged in the middle of the living room in front of the coffee table, with the box underneath the table. The biggest distraction I have is trying to keep my cats from eating various parts . If it's a licensed set, I'll sometimes listen to the soundtrack associated with the scene that I'm building. When I'm buidling an MOC, I sit in my bean-bag chair (hint: NOT a good idea) and search through the four ten-gallon ziploc bags that hold all my loose lego. Anything too large to hold in one hand gets perched precariously behind me. I need to figure out something better than this... Quote
Yoshi648 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 I usually build at my computer desk, sitting in my chair with my box of Lego at my side. My model is built on my desk (unless I need more room, then it is on my bed). While I am doing that my computer plays music (mainly video game soundtracks) and I have MLCad open as I usually plan out things before making them. Quote
Tom Bricks Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I listen to music on my laptop on shuffle and usually sing along If I'm building something to do with a movie like Indiana Jones or Harry Potter I'll listen to the soundtrack on repeat. Because I'm always listen to music, certain songs bring back memories of building certain things. I used to build on the floor when I was younger, then on my bed, but now that I have the table space I build at a table. Quote

I used to have to build on the floor, hard wood floor, and I still like to sit or lie on the ground while looking through unsorted bins for parts. As for building speed, I am terribley slow at the begining, usualy tearing down half built MOCs because I think I won't have the parts or capability to keep intrest in them. Although once i get a good foundation for something started I only spend about three days total finishing it (mainly larger MOCs) Edited November 9, 2009 by MrTools Quote
Big Cam Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 If I'm building for a review, I need to be in a room with a door so my dog doesn't bother me, and then I usually stream the lex and terry radio network or just listen to music. If building for fun, I usually watch TV. Quote
CloneCommanderDelta7 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 I concentrate so hard I almost popped a vein when I built the UT-AT. It was so hard to keep it accurate for the contest. Quote
einsteinonthebeach Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I always have a bowl of Jujubes at my table, I think it's become a superstition of sorts. I listen to music (Sigur Ros, Johann Johannson, Classical) or pop in an MST3K episode for background noise. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 I build on the floor, on a rug in front of my sorting containers. The rug has short fibers, so the pieces don't get lost. Often I sing whatever song I have stuck in my head while I build. Probably doesn't sound very musical, but it's not supposed to. Quote
