DanUK Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Hi, my name is Dan. This is my first post. I wanted to build a jeep similar to the Fire Jeep and trailer set as I think it's a great looking model. Using the current police car set I built this according to the instructions from the fire set 7942. I had to use the 1X4 piece with holes as that's all I had left in white. I elected to use the more upright sceeen too as it fitted in with the other police cars in the range. What do you think? Quote
wooootles Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 It's nice. Suggestion is to shorten the axle width---wheels are too far out. Otherwise, awesome. I like the front bumper. Quote
prateek Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Great job! This jeep will fit in perfectly with the other vehicles from recent City sets. Quote
JCC1004 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) It's really nice. It fits perfectly into the other police vehicles. Good job. BTW, welcome to Eurobricks! Edited November 14, 2009 by JCC1004 Quote
BlueBard Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Nice transformation! I specially like how you've followed the original design of the 7942 but if I can make one criticism I would have used smaller wheels but of course they're the same in the original and it's only my opinion Quote
Zorbas Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 First of all, welcome to Eurobricks Dan! The attempt you 've made turned out really good, considering the limited amount of bricks you had to use. TLG had released a pick-up truck in the past (well, sort of), the 6632 , so a CITY version set could also exist in reality. Good job! ...but if I can make one criticism I would have used smaller wheels but of course they're the same in the original and it's only my opinion Exactly! I keep saying that since I left dark ages behind me and joined Eurobricks. One type of wheels in almost every vehicle is getting ridiculous. 6-wide, realism, more accuracy, attention to detail, blah blah blah.... Bus, sportcar, ATVs, trucks, ambulance, airport vehicles, police cars, small, big, medium, you name it. One size of wheels. Pick your realism from one of the above. (Sorry for being off topic here.... ) Quote
Milan Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Good! It looks like completely different model, I like it. Quote
marvinblue Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I reckon it looks pretty cool! That would work well patrolling the outer limits of your City!! Quote
Darth_Legois Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I did a similar version awhile back when 7942 was released except I closed off the back and put a dog there it looks better. Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Very nice MOC. It's not over done with anything special, just a good old police workhorse(our SAPOL do use utes/pickups). I agree with 'wooootles' though - shorten the axles - the wheel arrangement makes this vehicle too wide and looks odd, thats the only bad point. Still I do like it, makes me now want to make a 4x4 vehicle to park out the of my City Corner style police station. Quote
Rick Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Not too spectacular, but a nice pickup. This World City police pickup is also pretty cool (if you rearrange the light bar on the roof a little). Quote
DanUK Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 Thanks for the replies! I'll try the narrower axles this week on both Jeeps and repost some picks! Darth_Legois, I wanted to do a closed MPV based on the Fire MPV that comes in the current Fire Station. Any pics of yours? Quote
DanUK Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Here is the evo 2 version of the above! Changed the 1X4 holed piece for solid, narrowed the axles... Does it look better? Finally a pic with another Design change, the Fire MPV that comes with the now older Fire Station, also done as a Police Version Quote
Rick Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Does it look better? Yes Finally a pic with another Design change, the Fire MPV that comes with the now older Fire Station, also done as a Police Version I really like the design of that vehicle that comes with the Fire Station. I also like the police rendition of it with a 1 stud longer front. I don't really like the clips with equipment on the official Lego vehicles, so I'd suggest removing them and replacing them with regular white (instead of black) bricks, but that's a matter of taste. Big Cam Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I think the second version looks better with the shorter axles. Granted your first version looked almost identical to the fire one in shape and size, but I think you did the right thing with narrowing the axles, sometimes LEGO drops the design ball. I really like it. Great job! Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 The mark 2 vehicles even better, especially the hatchback one. I like them a lot. The new axles help a great deal. On the subject of the tool clips, a spade instead of a radio would be better as these are 4x4 vehicles. You might have to dig yourself out of trouble or even help at a crime scene. The hatchback one could carry absailling, diving and other rescue gear. Also a towing hitch to pull a boat and trailier combo for search and rescue on the water. Very well done, DanUK ! Quote
