Posted November 20, 200915 yr Hello all, About a month ago, I was working on Cragislist (an independent classified add site here in the US). A lady was advertizing for 3 large ziplock bags full of legos for $60. My kids have just gotten out of playmobil and have moved on to legos. As one medium sized set in the US can cost $60, I thought three freezer bags of legos was a decent deal. I emailed her and we agreed to meet. When we met, these were not the 2-quart freezer style bags, they were the lage 30-quart storage bags. THREE of them. IT clocked into about 60lbs of lego! I quickly gave her the money and then left. When I got home with my mega-haul, my wife said "Thats too much lego! the kids will never find everything in there". So I spent three nights going through the bags, picking out the really good pieces, and moving all the simple pieces (old style primary color 2x4s) to another bag. I was able to cull the collection by about a third, finding the pieces I kept were a collection of Castle (Vlads fortress and good guy stuff), Exo-Squad, some of the yellow underwater sets, dinosaur, and a bunch of other stuff. These parts facinated me! We never had a lot of money as a kid, and I had only a handful of sets, including my covetetd Galaxy Explorer. All the new cockpits and wings and engines and other bits went into my bag. When I was done, I took the bag of booring bits, and sold it to a neighbor for... $60.00! Effectively getting all my legos for free. But now IM hooked! Ive been on bricklink getting some armor for those poor knights, and some missing sword... oh and Ill need a dragon, and wow those parts look keen! Its bad. I feel like im 10 years old again, only this time *I* control the money. I have a feeling were going to get back the sold volume of legos probably by christmas. So thats my introduction, here are my questions: 1) My kids have been into Lego Batman the video game. These sets are completely out of my price range. Are these sets ever going to come out again> 2) How do other people store their bulk lego for thier kids to play with? Can you buy storage play mats or someting? 3) Any good ideas for sneaking large bits of lego into the house past the wife? Thanks, Diggity Edited November 20, 200915 yr by diggitydug
November 20, 200915 yr Welcome to the forum, this probably should have gone in the Hi I'm new forum, but a mod will likely help you out there. ok. 1.) I don't think so, the liecense I believe got sold, bricklink will be your only hope. 2.) I have never heard of thsi LEGO bag, but I bet you can find it on bricklink. 3.) I don't have kid's yet but I have a 64 quart rubbermaid bin that is only about 10 inches high, it's really long and wide so it's great for storing LEGO. 4.) If you find out how please let me know, because my wife thinks I spend too much on ELGO the way it is.
November 20, 200915 yr 4.) If you find out how please let me know, because my wife thinks I spend too much on ELGO the way it is. ELGO? :P
November 20, 200915 yr ELGO? :P Typo? Sorry, I've just never seen someone misspell "Lego" before. :P Kinda seems like a waste of 3 posts just to point out I mispelled a word, don't you think. It's called a typo for a reason, because it's likely a mistake
November 20, 200915 yr 1) My kids have been into Lego Batman the video game. These sets are completely out of my price range. Are these sets ever going to come out again> No. In fact-- I have heard this story before! The details are all the same: 1. Kid plays LEGO Batman video game 2. Kid wants LEGO Batman sets 3. Shop at Home proclaims, "Sorry, this item is not available in this country: United States" 3.5. Off to Bricklink! 4. The parents say, "Too much!" But in all seriousness, the Batman sets are not going to return. As others have said, Bricklink is your last hope, and even there the prices are inflated. 2) How do other people store their bulk lego for thier kids to play with? Can you buy storage play mats or someting? Go to Walmart and buy those plastic drawers. They come in many different sizes!
November 20, 200915 yr Great story, good deal. 2) How do other people store their bulk lego for thier kids to play with? Can you buy storage play mats or someting? My oldest son already needs to use the whole of this piece of IKEA furniture plus a couple of Rubbermaid bins. :) 3) Any good ideas for sneaking large bits of lego into the house past the wife? Don't bother. Explain that the money and time spent on LEGO is better than some of the alternatives like alcohol, gambling, strippers, etc. My wife just shrugs now and says this as a mantra. Oh, and never underestimate the romantic/cute factor. Make her something like a flower or a vignette of her or the kids. I made this and my wife loves it: Actually I updated it when our third child was born but for some reason don't have a picture. Hmmm, better take one so I can update it again.
November 20, 200915 yr Oh man you're hooked! Batman...one day probablly as I think those movies will just keep comming back over and over but not likely anytime in the next few years. I put my kids legos in medium size clear rubbermaid type bin. Kids can't keep things sorted very well so you are better off dumping it all into one bin for them as that's how it'll end up anyway. Remind yourself of the following things.... 1. slow and steady wins the race 2. it is not possible to own all the Lego on Earth (I am not selling mine ) 3. be honest with your wife 4. set a budget and stick to it 5. Use what you have to BUILD MOC's or sets (you may find you don't need more random parts but rather a lot of one specific part or color for something you want to build). In that case Bricklink is your cheapest bet unless you have a Lego store near you with Pick A Brick wall. Good luck
November 20, 200915 yr Oh, and never underestimate the romantic/cute factor. Make her something like a flower or a vignette of her or the kids. I made this and my wife loves it I wouldn't think to give you this piece of advice, but this is an excellent suggestion. I personally use some small sets or parts of sets to tell a mini-story about my girlfriend's life, and she finds it in the morning, on the kitchen table after she wakes up. For instance she works in an old ugly building and had some issues with her external hard disk, so I put a female minifig (her) near a parking garage (i.e. the old building), carrying a kind of black box (the disk) to a recycle truck while another minifig (her boss) was running after her. Or sometimes it's just Kranxx telling her "hello"! She likes that and often creates a Lego reply!

I agree, I have got it bad. I just purchased my first Lego set for ME ever.. the Agents Command Center Truck. Im going to wrap it up for myself and put it under the tree for christmas. Im very excited about it.

November 25, 200915 yr 3) Any good ideas for sneaking large bits of lego into the house past the wife? Yes - suck up! I am of the mindset that if I get to have something I like, she should get something that she enjoys. She likes puzzles so...I get her vintage puzzles. She also likes L.L Bean stuff, so I...you get my drift! Alternatively...store it in the trunk of your car/back of your truck, wait 'till she's gone, and bring it in then! Promptly mix with existing pile to erase evidence of new bricks.
