prateek Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 That bag doesn't look all that thick or rigid to me. Despite what people say, it may be possible to feel inside at least for certain kinds of accessories. Once these are on sale, you'll see a bunch of people crowding around feeling for the accessories. That would be a funny scene Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 11, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 11, 2010 Because some questions were raised regarding the quality of these minifigures I've asked this to the LEGO Community team. Here's a summary of the feedback which I've got I got from Steve Witt (LEGO Community Team): The lower quality stuff you've seen (magnets, keychains, etc) was lower quality because it was being made by an outside agency for a purpose outside of the normal LEGO product line. It was part of what we call extended line and wasn't watched over as closely by Quality Assurance until we started realizing how bad some of this stuff was looking. We are now looking at extended line much more closely.Minifigures is part of the LEGO Product line (not extended line) and therefore is held to much higher quality control than extended line. I actually have some final product for minifigures on my desk (as in I opened pre-packed bags and hoped for the best) and they are great quality. I've seen the whole line out of the package and it looks really good. Quote

Here's the summary of the feedback which I've got I got from Steve Witt (LEGO Community Team): Well, that sounds good. And I agree that on the picture we have seen so far the quality looks just as good as normal LEGO. But I'm confused why they made a new mold for the shovel, seems very unnecessary to me Quote
Zorbas Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Thanks for doing that Bonaparte! That was certainly a good thing to read. Quote

Clone OPatra Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Hmm, I still have doubts. ("I have doubts, I have so many doubts!" Meryl Streep, Doubt) The pictures on Brickshelf show that the figures do not have the black printing on their necks, and at least the Zombie does have the arm stamp. In his response, Steve Witt does not say that they are not still being made by the outside company, he just says that they're not part of the "extended line." Putting together his careful wording and that the figures have those two signs of being from the place where bad quality minifigures come from, I'm still doubtful that these will be any better quality. He does say that they're good quality, and maybe LEGO did step up their watching over the outside company to ensure that even these outside products have quality on par with LEGO's own. Still, I'm bummed that these figures are made by the outside company with the outside moulds at all. Additionally, a little off-topic, Steve Witt says that they hold the LEGO Product Line to a much higher standard than the Extended Line. That seems like a bad sign for the quality of magnet pack and other extended line figures ever getting better. Quote

LEGO is now also looking more closely at the extended line because they realized the quality was not OK. We are now looking at extended line much more closely. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 I understand. I will try to be hopeful, but still with my fingers crossed. Quote

It's nice to hear something official about it, but the fact that the minifigs are a standard Lego product does not necessarily say anything. As I have said many times around here before, the "Lego product line" has been anything but "great quality" for the last three years. Quote
vexorian Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Were the toy story figs part of the extended line? Quote
Aanchir Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Thanks for that news. I was just commenting to my brother during dinner that it makes absolutely zero sense to distrust LEGO parts made in China, or any place outside of Denmark. After all, LEGO has been making parts in foreign countries (Hungary, the Czech Republic, and recently, Mexico) for a while, and I have yet to see any ordinary LEGO product of substandard quality. So why would a company like LEGO, with such a keen interest in quality control, stop those efforts when they start manufacturing in a company with a worse reputation? In the end, I think cheap products from China are partly, if not mostly, the fault of cheap non-Chinese companies who don't care if their products are absolute crap. So we can count on LEGO's main-line products to remain of good, LEGO-certified quality, including those made in China. Quote
Inconspicuous Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Makeover for my avatar? This is obviously my favorite minifig from the whole line. I'm very relieved to hear that the minifigs won't be of cheap plastic either! I really hope they can fix the problem for all products eventually, but for now, this is a good start. Quote
jonwil Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 All that we need now for the magician is a rabbit that fits inside the top hat :) And a BrickForge Saw for the "sawing a woman in half" trick :P Quote
Sir Fred Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I am perfectly willing to believe the statement about these being of normal quality, if it turns out I'm overly optimistic/gullible about that, then so be it. Now I'm just going to spend some time wondering how much I am going to wind up spending on these, after all, I feel my collection is solely lacking for not having a single forestman. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I've got a few, so it'll be nice to add more. apparently, 'officially' the Wolfpack is considered an offshoot of the Forestmen, so I've got even more! Quote
MrTools Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 I must say i am relieved to know the quality is going to be good, i think i am going to try and get two of each, one for MOCs and one to put in a little display case. (I will probably end up with tons of them though ...) Quote
Piranha Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) I was trying to find my last post so I could read after that, I had to go back 5-6 pages, and in one day! But happily before giving up I did read Bonaparte's comment regarding the quality issue. And I am somewhat relieved that they will be held to a higher quality. But I think all LEGO products should be held to high quality. That was one of the reasons why I buy it, one of the few things not made in china I would say the zombie is the last fig I want, and if I get it, that is going straight to my BL store for a little lower than the lowest price, so I can sell it My most wanted of the 1st wave is the Astronaut, and I have been hoping for a decent space theme ever since Classic Space, maybe when Star Wars dies, just maybe Edited February 12, 2010 by Macoco Quote
B-Lister Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Star Wars is too hot a property. Anybody who forges a contract with Lucasfilm does so long-term, because it's the license that keeps on giving. think about this, the Lego license is already 10 years old, and shows no signs of stopping. the Hasbro/Kenner License is already fifteen years old, and they signed an 18 year deal, just after Episode III (during a time when the property's future was uncertain). so it is a brand with legs. Yeah, you did realize that it was a joke? If I recall Star Wars is LEGOs biggest and most popular money maker. I can dream can't I? B-Lister Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 actually, no, my Sarcasm Detector has been on the fritz! I thought you were implying that SW was going away. My mistake. Quote

Lets not get ridiculous here Ok phew, no 6 page discussion needed for this one Thanks for explaining yourself Back on topic, I plan to buy at least $20 worth of these random boxes, for the first wave, hope I get lucky on the first try, but doesn't everyone? They are going to be $3 each correct? Which I find extremely conservative for these exclusive figs Quote
B-Lister Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 yeah, I'm going in for $30 worth, just to increase my odds. I'm hoping to get most, if not all the figures I want with my first buy-in. Quote
Earendil Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 (edited) Is the question, weather the item number in the upper right corner of the packs shows what is contained, solved yet? Edited February 12, 2010 by Earendil Quote
AllanSmith Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Is the question, weather the item nuber in the upper right corner of the packs shows what is contained, solved yet? I reckon its the other barcode ,with no numbers below, on the left of the rear that identifies the contents. Quote
TJJohn12 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 This all depends if they are on shelves and not behind the counter. Now, back onto the figures, not how they are sold, thank you I wonder if there would be a Power Ranger style one? I would love one of those. How this idle speculation and quarreling is somehow more valuable than the interesting debate a few pages back I'll never understand. -John Quote
