Grr I got two Life Guards! I was looking for a Pharaoh. :/

~MC

The pharaoh is easiest to identify by his staff/sceptre. If you feel a long and thin minifig accessory, it's either the Pharaoh's sceptre, the witch's broom, or the Spartan's spear. The Spartan is easy to identify by his shield and helmet, and the witch is arguably the easiest fig to identify (the large dress and large hat are rather distinctive) so once you have something with a long, thin accessory and without the obvious helmet, shield, or bulky dress and hat, you've found yourself a pharaoh.

This is assuming, of course, that by "looking for" you're implying actually trying to hand-pick a pharaoh rather than ordering online or by some other method where you can't feel the bags.

Feeling the bags actually has proven to be more reliable for me than the barcodes (it's a lot less trying on my patience to feel through a number of bags than to read and compare tiny lines). Since barcodes are disappearing with the next series (and presumably not coming back), I encourage people who still have collectible figs in stock in their locality to get some practice identifying the figs by touch.

The trick with reading the barcodes is that the left part of the barcode is the same on each package (at least in the USA; I think the barcodes differ per country/region). Instead it's best to look at the right-hand side, basically the last 10 lines or so, because that's where the differences are. I personally find reading the barcodes to be easier. I always end up with the booklet in the way of my sausage-like fingers.

But yeah, I guess the barcodes will be gone soon. Maybe I'll commission a blind person with super-feeling powers to comb through the packets for me, lol.

The rumor is that they will be going away. Which I am fine with. I'll buy them like I do now. In bulk. I buy as many as I can get my hands on and then afterwards I look at them with the barcodes, so it won't affect me all that much.

Yeah there are still a few left at Wal-Mart. I had one that I thought was the Pharaoh and one that was the lifeguard. I put the one that I thought was the lifeguard back, but I put back the wrong one! :hmpf_bad: Ah well I'll probably go tonight or tomorrow to try and find him again.

Oh, Series 3 looks awesome. The sumo guy is a clever use of the statue in a different color.

I like the mummy too, really rounds out the undead guy in each series.

Wait what color is it? I didn't notice it was different!

From Toys N Bricks:

A Dutch site has revealed a list of 16 rumored upcoming minifigures for LEGO 8804 Collectable Minifigures Series 4. Below is the adjusted translation made by us.
A series of 16 new minifigures! Each minifigure is in a special bag so you can’t tell which minifigure is inside. Each minifigure has its own accessories, baseplate and collector booklet. These minifigures have been inspired by movies, sports, history and everyday life. Here are the 16 minifigures included: The Monster, Surfing Girl, Sailor, Kimono Girl, Punk, Viking, Speed Skater, Hockey Player, Skateboarder, Man in Safety Suit, Musketeer, Werewolf, Artist, Mad Professor, Football Player and Garden Gnome.

If these turn out to be true, this sounds like a pretty cool series, especially the Artist and Gnome. default_laugh_new.gif

I don't know if that video has been posted yet, but personaly i thought it was hilarious...and true !!

"Just one word of warning, there is “adult” language in this video"

I haven't visited this thread in a while and only just watched this.

While the guy was overboard and very funny, he made some good points - if I know what it is, as a LEGOholic, I'll buy at least two of each figure anyway, and some figures a lot more.

Also, if you're going to keep it blind, please make the ones people will want multiples of less rare... you know what happens, with normal people like me(*)? I want more Spartans... just a squad, maybe 10, not 300... I have two. I'm not blindly buying more in hopes of getting more, I'm just going to live with two... but if I knew what they were, I'd buy them!

And I know we're AFOLs and TLG only wants to make the little children happy, but the little children aren't going to be happy after whining their parents to death to buy another handful of figures at the store and opening them up to find... two more mime's, another weightlifter, another disco guy, and two more cops (**).... all of which little Jimmy already had. What fun!

(*) statement has not been validated.

(**) at which point I could make a gay disco club with half the village people, gay weightlifters and mimes... not that there's anything wrong with that.... I just don't think it's what little Jimmy had in mind when he tantrumed his way into getting his parents into buying more collectibles.

I hope that series 5 will come with following minifigs:

-gladiator

-male snowboarder

-some kids

-mother with baby

-e-guitar player

These would imo be brilliant minifigs which are really, really missing until now!

What do you think that there'll be included in series 5?

Well a bum or hobo for under my bridge would make the bad part of my city look better or at least funny.... I know a little castle theme fig and some bottles and stuff would make it happen, but a nice rusty grocery kart full of garbage in the bag with the fig would be a funny plus...

hell I would buy 30 of them just for the karts for a store theme on the side

The figure I would mostly like to come would be a Prussian soldier, including spiked helmet and needle gun. I would buy me a little Prussian army thereby.

I would also like a Roman legionaire, although they might become similar to the Spartan. A Guitar player would be nice, as you said, or a western desparado...

That's a bit off-topic, but I didn't know where to ask this question:

Over at spieletest.at I read that the collectable minifigures should be sold for 2,50 Euros (instead of 2 Euros).

But in my customer's catalogue I see series 4 for 2 Euros - and I bought minifigures of series 3 for 2 Euros, too.

So will series 5 be the first series that will be sold for 2,50 Euros per minifig? Does someone know something more about that?

It would be really bad if they rised the price. The accessory of many minifigs was reduced anway (i. g. there are much more minifigs in series 5 which include only one additional part then in series 1). And 2 Euros is imo really expensive enough.

Do you think that TLG will continue the minifigure series next year, too? And if yes, how many series do you think that there'll be?

I personally think - and hope - that TLG will continue the minifigure series since it gives us the opportunity to get that many amazing, different and useful minifigs that we in the majotiry would never get in regular themes.

But I highly doubt that there'll be more than three series in 2012. I even bet that there'll be only two. Don't ask me why. It's only some sort of feeling since many ideas have already been done. Plus I heard voices that this year the series don't sell as good as last year. But that might of course even be false info.

I have noticed that when I'm in any shop that sells those Collectable Minifigs, parents with their children doesn't seem to 'notice' the bags and go for medium to large sets. Or maybe it's just here in this country...?

Here in the United States, I've seen varying things. One independent toy store that also has a sort of a focus on collectibles shelves the figs near the register, so it's hard for people not to notice them. But they still last a surprisingly long time, possibly because LEGO buyers prefer to do their shopping at familiar chains. At Walmart and Target stores, I rarely see people looking specifically for the figs, but I have observed that they disappear more quickly a lot of the time, and that parents who come in with kids often try to encourage the kids to make small purchases, not large ones. So bypassing these for the medium-to-large sets may not be as frequent in those stores.

On a side note, yes, when I see this happening, I always point out sets to these kids that have really appealing contents. For instance, for a kid who seems intent on getting an expensive LEGO City Police set, I'll point out the Police Minifigures collection which has a decent vehicle, several useful minifigures and a dog.
