SWMAN Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 While I am a little bit more reassured that these will be nice sets, I am still pretty skeptical. I am going to have to wait until we the sets actually come out and I can get a good look at the figures and such before I make my final decision. Quote
Svelte Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I can't say I'm loving the colour mix of red-brown, dark bley and light bley, especially with the bright red and green I could have lived with losing the red-brown. I can't stand these flat build and snap castles, mainly because they are impossible to move. One of the advantages of the older style 2-thick, 5-wide castle wall pieces was that to connect them, you had to add structural reinforcement to get them to connect (like slopes at the bottom or top, or plates). The new standalone panel pieces don't have that additional connection to reinforce the structure. Quote
Bricknave Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Wow. The new 2010 LEGO Kingdoms sets are extraordinary! Although I like the fantasy elements the last Castle theme had, I think it's good for this new theme to take a break from it for the most part. Quote
Capt. Redblade Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 When are these to be released? Those Castles are so nice and I especially love the new jester. It comes in a nice small box. I bet that little guy will sell a ton and get sold out. He looks alive! He looks so happy and care free, he surely is doing a good job making the king and peasants laugh. He looks as if he's going to come alive. I like the wizard too even though he looks similar to past castle wizards, this gives me a chance to get one Comes with two angry villagers and a rotten fruit stand. Quote
Kliq Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Ever since the first time I saw that this theme was heading toward human v. human I've been very excited. Fantasy has its place, but it's certainly not my favorite. I love each and every last one of the sets in this line, regardless of whether or not they are the final designs. The large castle (as has been said a million times) brings back feelings of older castle sets, and incorporates all of the great features that could still be used today, though I do miss string. :[ The smaller opposing fortification looks very nice for what it's meant to be. I just cannot stress how happy I am with these pictures. It has been a long time since two human factions have both had great looking sets. I cannot wait for these sets to be released. Quote
Tyrant Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I really like the look of these with the new pictures and I can't wait to see some of the other details from the NY Toyfair. The large castle looks nice and I really like the midsized Dragon castle. The torsos all look nice from what I can see. The small set should be cheap enough that people can build armies of the two factions cheaply. I'm curious to see if the army builder pack rumor pans out. That would be really nice too. The only thing I don't like (and this stretches across most of the lines) is the use of stickers. I just don't like them. I might them more if I could buy more in case I ever have to replace them. As for the difference in the 2 castle wall pieces, I'm indifferent about it. I see advantages to both, honestly. The old ones are set up that when you use them they interlock things together and you set the ceiling at the same level as the top of the piece due to the inner bit being sunk in. The new ones are evenly sized which has advantages and if you don't like it they don't have that sunk in piece attached to them. Quote
blueandwhite Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I'm afraid these look rather childish compared to Fantasy Era sets. I think I'll only buy some acessories from Bricklink but won't purchase the sets, doesn't seem to be worth it. My most favorite theme was castle :( What is so childish about this year's line compared to the fantasy theme we've had for the past few years? The set design itself seems to be pretty much on par with the older stuff, and we finally have two factions which aren't overtly good/evil; something we haven't seen since the 1990s. If anything, I find that this line seems a bit more sophisticated than the previous Castle line. I can understand that fantasy fans (as opposed to fans of the middle ages) might find the move away from dwarves, skeletons and trolls to be a bit of a disappointment, but for many of us this line is a much needed change for castle. I just don't get where this childish label comes from. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Thank you all very much for the new pics! The new Castle sets look ! The new torsos and the new helmets look brilliant as does the architecture of the king's castle and the small tower with the catapult. Nevertheless there are some things which disturb me: -the prison carriage is no prison carriage - the prisoner could very easily get out of his "prison" -the prison tower looks to me more like one of the Ninja towers, that there is a big gate which you can only pass difficultly on the one hand but some stairs to get inside the tower very easily on the other hand is absurd -there are nearly no horses this is a Castle theme with knigts, TLG - and what do knights need?! - Horses! Since I'm not hundred percent convinced of the new Castle theme because of the reasons above but even because my wallet already cries with wanting to get some of the new SW and City sets and Minifigures I'll pass on this Castle theme. Perhaps I'll buy the two Impulse sets and maybe even the advent calendar (depending on what it'll include). Nevertheless I really welcome it that TLG goes more classic in the Castle line, too, and did stop that ugly FA sets! Klaus-Dieter Quote
The Penguin Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 -the prison carriage is no prison carriage - the prisoner could very easily get out of his "prison" True, but in defense I'd say that it looks pretty unique. When we have a minifig trapped inside the cage, only with a head out of it, that's quite sadistic in my opinion. Very medievil-like! ) -the prison tower looks to me more like one of the Ninja towers, that there is a big gate which you can only pass difficultly on the one hand but some stairs to get inside the tower very easily on the other hand is absurd And why not? I mean we've had plenty towers, drawbridges, etc.... which lead to nowhere. Here we have an attemps of making it look more realistic, castle-like. As for the stairs, i think it adds to the sets playsbility, and as I wrote before, I'm convinced that there'll be some interesting playing feature. ) -there are nearly no horses this is a Castle theme with knigts, TLG - and what do knights need?! - Horses! Indeed, however there's always a chance that in the final product we'll get more. ) BTW, is it me, or there's no flick-fire frenzy this time!? Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I can't believe people complains about this theme! No <insert that tiresome argument> pieces No fantasy (Ok we have dragons but they could be just statues) Nice classic looking building with no TECHNIC skeleton inside and a lot of details New pieces New coloured swords No oversized carriage No more Crownies (Finnaly) A lot of shields Return of Jester Small sets usefull for army building Classic design on shields Its win theme not Fail! Gamer Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 These new castle sets remind me of Knights Kingdom. Gamer. Quote
Big Cam Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Ahh, the Jester and the Wizard were the 2 figs I wanted most, and now I can collect an army of them, YES!! Quote
metalandi Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 These new castle sets remind me of Knights Kingdom.Gamer. In which way exactly? I don't get that, when i see that new castle i can only think of classic sets, KK doesn't even come to my had at all when i look at the pictures... Quote
DaleDVM Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I can't say I'm loving the colour mix of red-brown, dark bley and light bley, especially with the bright red and green I could have lived with losing the red-brown. I agree with you. When I first saw the pics of the sets a while back, I wasn't quite sure what to think of the brown corbel pieces. I like the thought of showing a little wood as part of the castle construct. The more I look at them the more I am just not sure what to think of them. I definately don't like the idea of having torches right underneath them like next to the jail cell. I would have preferred having braggers or tassels. (which is just a piece of timber sticking through the walls) Some people put them in their MOCs with beautiful effect. I suppose I will have to see this live and in person to make a final judgement on those pieces. They are pretty easily replaced and the overall design is still money in my opinion! One of the advantages of the older style 2-thick, 5-wide castle wall pieces was that to connect them, you had to add structural reinforcement to get them to connect (like slopes at the bottom or top, or plates). The new standalone panel pieces don't have that additional connection to reinforce the structure. On this point I respect your views but I couldn't disagree with you more. Having to build with a piece in a certain way where it forces you to do something is never a better way to do things. It is not like you can't connect these wall pieces at the top and bottom... Now you have options on how to connect the pieces together. The new wall is 4 wide and therefore easier to center for towers. The only thing that was 2 thick about the old wall is that lip sticking off the back which required plates to use properly and sometimes just got in the way no matter what you did. But most importantly, TLG is not using this piece in the way you describe. With the old piece they would make big long walls just using that one panel over and over with a few 1x2 bricks or slopes to connect them. Go and take a look at good old 6080 one of everybody's favorite classic castles. Clickable thumbnail. All of the classic castles not built on raised baseplates (except perhaps Black Monarchs) have the big ugly grey wall syndrome going on. Worse is that those grey walls were made almost entirely of those panels and very few usable bricks. In the upcoming Kingdoms release, TLG put an entire section of dark grey slopes between each one of the new wall pieces. This results in not only a better look but more usable bricks. Also note on the closeup photo of the gatehouse. They use 1x dark grey slopes where both the walls and the gatehouse ends to make it modular. When the wall sections are put together or when the walls are attached to the gatehouse you still have that repeating 2 wide sloping technique. With more than one set, you can make this castle as big as you want and it will all connect seemlessly! An absolutely fantastic design. I can't tell 100% how well this technique is working with the tower sections connected to the walls (the photo is too small) However, the towers look pretty good attached to the walls in the photo. Doom Saber Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I like the new line since it reminds me of the cursaders/royal knights and the black dragons(my favorite faction when I was collectin during the 90s') Quote
Piranha Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 (edited) Cool, thanks for those new pics! Again I love that they returned to more middle ages castle, meaning human vs human. The large castle, prison cart and Joker look like the the best sets. I will definitely pick up the cart and joker The new helmets they made look pretty good to me. EDIT: Castle Emoticons anyone? Lego_Warlord_8 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Wow, looks like something Lego would release 20 years ago... I love it! Gotta love those "classic" colors, very colorful. ~SR~ Quote
Grimmy Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Oh Cool a new castle theme!! The box art is great, I like the medieval styling Also I am extremely happy they returned to Human vs Human Just like in the old days of Forestmen, Black Falcons and such The sets look nice , and it is a good start for the theme. Wait so no more Dwarves and Trolls? I was so happy that they now had Lego fantasy creatures and not just boring humans. Now they are going back to just humans? I see some people like just humans but I think that would be a big mistake to get rid of the fantasy. Especially with the Hobit movie coming and other fantasy media. Just humans...I really doubt that they will do as well as fanasy creatures. Quote

Pretty nice fantasy elements they are. ) Plus, as I've (and many other members here) said those new factions will look lovely next to the FE sets. ) Not to mention that, IMHO, the new ones are better designed and overall look more "mature", so to say! ) Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
castlestrike666 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 There might be some nice new pieces in it, but seen all the sets together, it doesn't look very promising to me actually.. Quote
RocketClone Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I don't know about some of you guys but IMHO i think these sets look great! And is it just me or is that leg printing unique? I just hope theres more factions added in the near future. (like forestmen, and a possible wolfpack revival ) Quote
