Shown below is my newest CC style building, a department store. It was inspired by a new window design I came up with, using 1x4x6 glass panes and door rail plates. Assembly done mostly in one afternoon. No interior furnishings yet, as I haven't decided how I will furnish it.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Finished!

I've done a few redesigns and furnished the interior! Not bad for a few days work, I think. :classic:

I like all the glass on the bottom floor. However, I think it should be higher, considering its width. Also the black and white could use some breaking up by means of other colors here and there. Do you plan on making an interior for it?

Love those ground floor windows, I might give that a go in one of my future MOC's.:thumbup:

The colour would suit the real world Port Adelaide or Collingwood (their aussie rules teams are black and white).

Note; there's a reason theres tiger in my forum name because that's my aussie rules team - Glenelg - mortal enemies of Port Adelaide hehe. :vader:

Great styling, might I suggest a furniture store with sofas, arm chairs and beds in the front windows or an up market car dealer's showroom with a sports car and sales desk in the front windows.

You could also pass this off as a bank, a medical centre and in different colours a post office/goverment offices.

Fanastic work, 'Jameson42'. :laugh::thumbup:

Yes, I do plan to make an interior. I just hadn't decided yet exactly what kind of store it is yet. The black and white was a conscious design choice. I'm planning on the highly visible interior providing all the color it needs. I may add some more white on the exterior, though.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards a furniture store... I just need to start designing some furniture!

Very sleek. I like the arch detail near the top. I think that the glass on the ground floor should be higher so it would balance out those huge panels in the second floor.

Very nice creation Jameson!

As others have already mentioned, the ground floor glass panels are really impressive.

I especially like the way the minifig reflects on the glass in the fourth picture. It looks very realistic!

The use of the 8x16 tiles for the roof is very authentic and personally I haven't seen it been used too much often. Although that at first glance, the roof seems to be less detailed in comparison to the rest of the beautifully detailed building, the playability gauge in the interior just rises to the limit, especially if you can make a hinge mechanism for it.

I like the black and white. Many modern buildings today have that colour scheme, especially some clothes brands stores, like "Zara" for example.

Clever use of the small plants on the pavement. It looks more colourful that way, without changing your actual plans of creating a black and white building.

Thanks for sharing your creation with us!

Thanks for sharing with us again. I like the way you design the exterior of this departmental store with the use of mere black and white. Actually, these are my favourite colors and it's uncommon to see such combinations in buildings. I wonder what sort of interior you have planned in mind.

This has been featured in Classic-Town.net.

Looking at this building i have two things that spring to my mind.

First thing is the panels on the bottom floor, if you have the bricks

you could easily combine them with 1 x 4 x 6 frames, and have a

slide door fiitted which would suit this building perfectly.

Second thing is the heigth of this building. Please create a second

floor James! Make it white with black decorations! That would be great

Looking forward to see more of you!

Cheers,

JJ.

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful comments!

I'm already working on a few changes to the exterior:

  1. All the black columns next to the windows have been changed to white.
  2. I'm adding a lot more detailing under the roof arches. It just feels too plain to me after thinking about it. It'll take me some time to figure out what I'm doing here.
  3. I will likely change the door and set it back into the building a little bit.
  4. I may add a little more height below the ground floor windows. Probably only 1 or 2 plates.

The lack of frames on the ground floor windows was kind of the whole point. I originally wanted to do sliding doors for the entrance, much like the sliding doors on the veranda of my green house, but the geometry just doesn't work out here. The 1x4x6 panels, the whole reason for the ground floor, fit perfectly 3 panes to 11 studs. In order to fit the sliding doors, either the building would need to be 2 studs wider, as my sliding door design fits incredibly well in a 6 stud opening, or I'd have to remove some glass. The only other option is to make the tile brickwork on the sides only 1 stud wide each instead of 2 studs wide each, and I just don't have the supply of small tiles for that.

I will consider adding another floor, or at the very least adding some height to the second floor.

EDIT: I finished my changes... I'll upload updated pics later after I give myself some time to make sure I don't want to change anything else. Likely tomorrow. Unless you guys would rather I wait until the interior is finished, too? :look::classic:

Blogged! :) You can read my criticism there. ;)

Regards, Dr

Thank you for the blog feature! A couple corrections, though... I used "Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Door Rail" and "Plate, Modified 1 x 8 with Door Rail" to hold the window panes, not 1x2 grill tiles. Also, the windows are 1x4x6 panes, not 1x4x5.

The use of light bley instead of dark bley for the sidewalk is entirely due to my limited parts supply. I have a ton of light bley 2x2 tiles, but no dark bley whatsoever. I will likely be changing this after the new year when I can afford a bricklink order.

Very cool. I love the added flags to the revision. Looks great. Very nice idea with the bedframe in white with the window frame and smooth tiles. Simple but ingenious! Would look great in any city block! Oh and adding the white around the door frame and in between the top windows really make a big difference too!
