General Armendariz Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) UPDATE IN POST #32 First off, I'd ;ike to thank CGH for helping with the steps of the mid sections Still, a WIP Le Défenseur means Defender in French this ship is named that to be Defender of the seven seas. Working on the head rails, Criticism and comments and feedback much appreciated Still not sure if I should have these prints on the gunports or plain red gunports. For now m using these because I dont have enough plain. Thats all CGH's work, The stern and top will be my works Feedback much appreciaed next I will be working on the Captains Cabin. Enjoy Edited November 17, 2010 by General Armendariz Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Excellent work General! I'm glad you have a ship soon to sail on! I think you should get plain red gunports, the print isn't realistic IMO. You are doing a great job on the curve and tumblehome. The headrails are a bit blocky though, perhaps removing one row and replacing it by a yellow hose? Great work anyway! Quote
Ratshot Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Nice ship ya got there I'm going to start on a ship next summer, which will add another ship to almight Bluecoat fleet. Quote
Rick Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Nice WIP. The figurehead looks impressive. Oh, and I agree with Blackmoor: go for plain gunports. Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Fine ship indeed! My only comment is that the headrails look a bit disorganized, try to give it some more structure. And for the rest everything looks good, keep it up! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Looks like a great project! I like the plain red gunports better. The 2 plates in the bow which are now white, might look better in yellow as they are attached to the headrails. Your headrails look a bit bulky, try to get the endings at the side of the figurehead closer together. Keep it up buddy! Quote
General Armendariz Posted November 29, 2009 Author Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks guys, Heres an updated headrails. Im still working on them, they dont seem to good yet.. But hey, these are the hardest to do. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 That is already better. Perhaps you can try and connect the top 2 to each other on the front? Quote
Derfel Cadarn Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Another awesome ship in progress. Cap Green hair has really set the trend. Looking good so far General, nice colours and shape, and to be honest, i quite like the printed gunports because its different. Even tho you probably will choose plain ones. I look forward to seeing more of this. Pity its going to be a bluecoat ship tho! Am i the only Privateer on this forum? Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Nice improvement on the headrails already, I agree they are very, very hard to do! I support the suggestion of the good Captain Greenhair. Are you also going to use blue in it? Am i the only Privateer on this forum? We have already hanged them, seems to be we have forgotten you. I believe there are some privateers around though... Quote
General Armendariz Posted November 29, 2009 Author Posted November 29, 2009 (edited) Are you also going to use blue in it? yes, but I dont know were yet, Probably the cabin having a stripe. Pics of captains cabin coming soon! How about this? Edited November 29, 2009 by General Armendariz Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 I think the 1x4 yellow plate in the lowest row should be replaced by a 1x3 plate. And another 1x2 plate between the 1st and 2nd line, close to the ship. Furthermore it's a nice improvement. Quote
General Armendariz Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 Update I started to work on this frigate again a couple days ago, I now added the floor boards of the first deck! Also Right now I am working on the captain's quarters.... The back Whats this? A door leading to the rum stash? No! Its the door to the crews sleeping quarters! looks cozy Birds-eye view C&C Welcome! Enjoy Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) It's great that you're giving it an interior. Do you have any ideas of how you're going to make it (especially the captains quarters)? The stern is also looking good so far. Good luck anyway! Edited March 9, 2010 by Admiral Croissant Quote
Captain Becker Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 looks pretty nice at me i wonder how did you do that door wich takes you in the crew`s place, i love the whole ship right now. Great wrk keep it up mate Captain Becker Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Looks great general! Outstanding progress. Just a small nitpick: The crew slept between their cannons, below the gundeck we found the orlop deck, with powder magazines and sickbay. Places which should be under the waterline. The hold lies under the orlop deck. Her colours are great, and it's awesome you are going to add an interior! Keep it up! Quote

I believe I have to disagree with you captain Since on (a lot of) frigates, the crew slept on the 'mess deck' or 'berth deck', which was under the gundeck and below the waterline (like on the HMS Trincomalee here) So if you ask me, I'd say, let Armendariz place his hammocks below the gundeck. And ofcourse on the Fourageux, they can be placed on the gundeck Edited March 9, 2010 by Admiral Croissant Quote
General Armendariz Posted March 10, 2010 Author Posted March 10, 2010 Glad you all enjoy it so far! Just a small nitpick: The crew slept between their cannons, below the gundeck we found the orlop deck, with powder magazines and sickbay. Places which should be under the waterline. The hold lies under the orlop deck. Thanks for the advice, I dont need to change anything. I could just say that is the ammo/sick bay room. the_green_avenger Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Hmm, now I'm not sure what to do! Just leave it as is. On VERY large ships, first, or second rate ones, In order to save space/make things less crowded the hammocks were usually put on the gun deck(s), though not neccisarily in between the cannons. On ships with only two decks below the main one, like yours, You would have some hammocks and possibly cabins in the orlop deck. If you wanted things to be less crowded (a ship like this would have AT LEAST 150 people) You might want to add hammocks on the gun deck. However... like I said earlier, you'll be perfectly fine if you leave it as is. Edit: That was a typo. I had meant to say 150. Edited April 13, 2010 by the_green_avenger Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I think the Admiral is right indeed. I only have studied larger ships, while dear Admiral Croissant is building a single deck frigate as well. Quote
ikensall Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 C&C Welcome! Enjoy to me two C's in the same sentence means Close Combat but hey im a brikwarer :pir-skull: Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 This is starting to turn out really good General! I am glad I've inspired you and others with my tutorial, I should update on it sometime soon. Glad you all enjoy it so far! Thanks for the advice, I dont need to change anything. I could just say that is the ammo/sick bay room. Hmm, now I'm not sure what to do! Admiral Croissant is right. On ships with only two decks below the main one, like yours, You would have some hammocks and possibly cabins in the orlop deck. If you wanted things to be less crowded (a ship like this would haveabout 50 people) You might want to add hammocks on the gun deck. Make that 200 - 250 people buddy. Please read some books before trying to give people advice. Quote
General Armendariz Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) UPDATE Well, here is an update. Excuse the not so good pics.... Nothing on the stern, but it will be built soon... No headrails right now, still working on it. Still need to buy string for rigging, any suggestions on what string to get? C&C Welcome, enjoy for now. Edited August 5, 2010 by General Armendariz Quote
Fires-storm Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I used a type of heavy upholsterer's string from Pat Catans for my schooners rigging, and also, she is coming along beautifully, I can't wait to see her done! Quote
