I remember a couple years back, there were Pirate minifigs that looked a little taller than usual, then I notice that this was part of a line that no longer exists and apparently related to thiss... Jack Stone line and I dont see you guys talk much about it. sooooo...how was that jack stone line anyway?

just kidding, we do sometimes, but only to bash it. Jack Stone was, I believe, part of the 4Juniors line, which was a highly <insert that tiresome argument> theme of over-simplified sets with larger, single-purpose pieces. Jack Stone was basically City but for the 5-10 age group.

A very good transition theme between DUPLO and LEGO. So the kids could leave the DUPLO name behind, but because the pieces were larger/studier, they could still play harder with it like the DUPLO, without rebuilding every 5 seconds. Honestly a serious loss to the LEGO transition period. Funky yes, but it was LEGO compatible sized studs, so perfect to build with later.

AND I know kids with less dexterity/problems, really like that stuff, since it's sturdier.

PS: We still have 3-4 of the sets, in our physical store, and will for a while probably, we bough heavy!!

Wow, you do have a lot in the store. I don't remember that much last time I was there.

I agree 100%. My son is a bit of a lazy builder so he still plays with Duplo as he can make bigger things faster. Thus buying him more LEGO is a waste, and I refuse to get him more Duplo. I wish TLG still sold a transition brand; Fabuland would be nice, but I'd settle for 4+...

And bigger pieces eh? They look the same to me on the box arts. Soooo they were just the pieces we know now, only bigger and even less compatible than a Duplo brick? and by less i mean useless?

We need more Jack Stone MOCs. Someone who specializes in it or something. That'd be hilarious.

I do have one set, from a birthday, years back. They did have some nice, and fairly uncommon pieces.

Of course they are sometimes a pain to use, but that's part of the fun in MOCing. Personally, I use the pieces from that set often in my MOCs though.

Mostly since it had some nice yellow pieces. :P

I prefer the way TLG fills the 'transition period' between Duplo and System nowadays. The Basic sets they introduced this year (the Pirate, Castle, and Fireman building sets) and that they continue next year with the petrol station (with a minifig and two cars) and a house (well at least a facade of a house and a car and two minifigs) are an excellent step-up to System (City). I'd much prefer to buy sets like those for kids in the 4-5 age group, supplemented with some basic bricks and some roof, doors and windows, and wheels accessory packs than 4-juniors/Jack Stone sets.

No way would a ten year old play with that lame stuff. I'm sorry, but minifigs rock !

Only some wall panels and plane nose pieces shold by TownJr for the ease of building for kids.

To me it's very Action-Orientated and the same idea as Agents, which is very like James Bond.

I don't think so; I think it's just longer legs and arms. IMHO the worst thing about 4+/Jack Stone was the un-configurable figs. That is, they don't come apart. I doubt TLG would make that mistake again.

No, Jack Stone bodies are 1 PIECE, one big piece. The new Toy Story ...ugly... minifigures are minifigures that are just larger, but will ocme apart.

This is a great thread. I never really knew the deal with Jack Stone. My dark ages started before his time and then ended after his time.

I hope the toy story figs don't look as bad as he did. I know they are real figs but the taller ones look weird.

The Jack Stone video was just a compilation of the clips that could be found on the Lego website at the time, so nothing too special. I'd have preferred a Star Wars one along the same lines; the classic Han Solo Affair video would have been perfect
