knuclear200x Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) I remember a couple years back, there were Pirate minifigs that looked a little taller than usual, then I notice that this was part of a line that no longer exists and apparently related to thiss... Jack Stone line and I dont see you guys talk much about it. sooooo...how was that jack stone line anyway? Edited December 1, 2009 by knuclear200x Quote
Tereglith Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 hSSS - we do not speak that name here! just kidding, we do sometimes, but only to bash it. Jack Stone was, I believe, part of the 4Juniors line, which was a highly <insert that tiresome argument> theme of over-simplified sets with larger, single-purpose pieces. Jack Stone was basically City but for the 5-10 age group. Quote
MShiels Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 A very good transition theme between DUPLO and LEGO. So the kids could leave the DUPLO name behind, but because the pieces were larger/studier, they could still play harder with it like the DUPLO, without rebuilding every 5 seconds. Honestly a serious loss to the LEGO transition period. Funky yes, but it was LEGO compatible sized studs, so perfect to build with later. AND I know kids with less dexterity/problems, really like that stuff, since it's sturdier. PS: We still have 3-4 of the sets, in our physical store, and will for a while probably, we bough heavy!! Tom Bricks Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I have a few of the random larger pieces from the sets and I never really liked them. They where just a bunch of <insert that tiresome argument> pieces (good for the target age group but not me) that are not very useful. Quote

My son is a bit of a lazy builder so he still plays with Duplo as he can make bigger things faster. Thus buying him more LEGO is a waste, and I refuse to get him more Duplo. I wish TLG still sold a transition brand; Fabuland would be nice, but I'd settle for 4+... Quote

They look the same to me on the box arts. Soooo they were just the pieces we know now, only bigger and even less compatible than a Duplo brick? and by less i mean useless? Quote
Siegfried Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 And bigger pieces eh? They look the same to me on the box arts. Same size studs, 100% compatible with LEGO, just bigger chunks. Think James Bond crossed with Fabuland and you have Jack Stone. Quote
The Alchemyst Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Same size studs, 100% compatible with LEGO, just bigger chunks. Think James Bond crossed with Fabuland and you have Jack Stone. But cross it with various city heroes and take out the women. We need more Jack Stone MOCs. Someone who specializes in it or something. That'd be hilarious. I do have one set, from a birthday, years back. They did have some nice, and fairly uncommon pieces. Of course they are sometimes a pain to use, but that's part of the fun in MOCing. Personally, I use the pieces from that set often in my MOCs though. Mostly since it had some nice yellow pieces. :P So how 'bout them 4+ Pirates? [-TA-] Quote
Rick Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) I prefer the way TLG fills the 'transition period' between Duplo and System nowadays. The Basic sets they introduced this year (the Pirate, Castle, and Fireman building sets) and that they continue next year with the petrol station (with a minifig and two cars) and a house (well at least a facade of a house and a car and two minifigs) are an excellent step-up to System (City). I'd much prefer to buy sets like those for kids in the 4-5 age group, supplemented with some basic bricks and some roof, doors and windows, and wheels accessory packs than 4-juniors/Jack Stone sets. Only some wall panels and plane nose pieces shold by TownJr for the ease of building for kids. But Jack Stone, hey if it was popular enough it would still be in production, well it's not though. Think James Bond crossed with Fabuland and you have Jack Stone. uhhh i dunno what James bond has to do with this....i can only guess youre saying that the bricks were taller by one thin brick or two or they came in 3x3's or something... also it seesm the Toy Story line uses Jack Stone bodies. for scale Aaccuracy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/45149953@N02/4147779387/ Quote

No! I meant the theme itself... To me it's very Action-Orientated and the same idea as Agents, which is very like James Bond. also it seesm the Toy Story line uses Jack Stone bodies. for scale Aaccuracy.http://www.flickr.com/photos/45149953@N02/4147779387/ I don't think so; I think it's just longer legs and arms. IMHO the worst thing about 4+/Jack Stone was the un-configurable figs. That is, they don't come apart. I doubt TLG would make that mistake again. Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I have to admit, the ads got to me. Even now, I can hear the over-the-top voice-over man saying "Can do. Will do. Done." (Thanks to Siegfried for kind loan of 2003 catalogue so I could confirm the exact phrase). (Maybe the ads didn't get me as much as I thought...) Quote

The new Toy Story ...ugly... minifigures are minifigures that are just larger, but will ocme apart. Quote
Big Cam Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 This is a great thread. I never really knew the deal with Jack Stone. My dark ages started before his time and then ended after his time. I hope the toy story figs don't look as bad as he did. I know they are real figs but the taller ones look weird. Quote

Hehe, I had a video of that I got free at a Club event at Windsor. "When there's a problem, there's a solution!" "Can do, will do, done!" I never liked Jack Stone at the time, but he's growing on me a bit now (despite the intrinsic AFOL hate of everything Jack Stone). Sniff, I was just getting over the fact that they were giving away a scout speeder set with the newspaper, but now you lay this on me, sob. That's it, I'm going back to the Motherland!! Quote

Oh yeah, and 6 of these... The Jack Stone video was just a compilation of the clips that could be found on the Lego website at the time, so nothing too special. I'd have preferred a Star Wars one along the same lines; the classic Han Solo Affair video would have been perfect Quote
wmanidi Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I have a ton of jack stone i will try to make a moc out of it. Quote
