The Player Nº1 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 It's amazing! Good job. I'd like to one day build as you. Regards Quote
BlueBard Posted February 20, 2010 Author Posted February 20, 2010 Sixth building: finally, my Flower Shop! I tried a lot of versions for the sign ("Flowers", "Flowershop", "Fleurs", "Fleuriste"...) and finally the best option was the one in my own mother language, so I decided to do an spanish flower shop: "Flores"! As usual the whole gallery can be seen here (flickr) or here (Brickshelf, when moderated). Hope you like it! Comments are welcome! Quote
prateek Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Great building. I raelly like the Flores sign Quote
Rick Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Another great MOC BlueBard. I especially like the shop. Both the exterior and the interior. The brick-built sign is great (even though you misspelled flowers ). And the interior is simple but so reflective of a real flower store. I also like the area in the back with it's nicely tiled terrace. Quote
Zorbas Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Great work for once more BlueBard! The "FLORES" sign turned out really nice and I really like the backyard. The trash can looks very realistic. The interior details such as the spray bottle, the different kinds of flowers and the computer mouse are great too. "Me gustaría comprar unas flores por favor." (Blame the Google translator for any mistakes. ) Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 You've done it again 'Bluebard' - you've given us another AWESOME as well as beautiful MOC ! Signage is excellent, shop front ditto ditto and front brickwork ditto ditto ! Great job again and so I'm a conformist!, and bricking, and bricking ! Quote
BlueBard Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks everybody for the nice comments! The brick-built sign is great (even though you misspelled flowers ). Not everything in Lego is going to be english or german! "Me gustaría comprar unas flores por favor."(Blame the Google translator for any mistakes. ) "¡Por supuesto! ¿Cuántas quiere usted?" For the first time, Google gave a correct translation Great job again and so I'm a conformist!, and bricking, and bricking ! Thanks! Even if I have not a lot of resources I always try to do my best Quote
Bojan Pavsic Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Fantastical buildings, BlueBard. Quote
CommanderFox Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Looking great so far BB! Really like all these new buildings! The latest Flores one is really nice, I love the checkered floor in the inside and out the back. That trash can is Great! The front outside looks Lovely! Looking forward to more! CommanderFox Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Looks fantastic! The flower sign on the front is outstanding, the interior is great and the whole building looks good! I like the small 'backyard' as well. Good job! Quote
BlueBard Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Thanks! Hope you'll like the rest of the buildings Quote
Still Raindrop Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 The flower shop is great! It really captures the feel of an actual flower shop, both inside and outside. Good work with the sign, too! Quote
BlueBard Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 Thanks! BTW, nobody has recognized this guy yet? Well, ok, I admit you must be at least francophone to know him Quote
Follows Closely Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Did you use glue on the FLORES? (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4359278) Quote
BlueBard Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 (edited) Did you use glue on the FLORES? (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4359278) Yep, I cheated a bit I tried hundreds of techniques for fixing the letters there, literally but it was almost impossible to find the right letter combination and the right technique for it. Besides I did this on summer and I at that time I didn't have a lot of money to spend in LEGO so I decided to use the cheapest and simplest And don't worry about the bricks, just a bit of water and soap and they'll be as good as new Edited March 3, 2010 by BlueBard Quote
BlueBard Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Don't know the name in english but this kind of glue works perfectly for Lego, a nice fixation and easy to remove. I would also recommend it for decals as you won't damage any torso print, for example Quote

You probably could have used a bunch of clips and rods to hold the letters together. Quote

You probably could have used a bunch of clips and rods to hold the letters together. I tried that technique, of course, but didn't work right for "Flores" letter combination (or Flower Shop, or Florist, or Fleurs...) and in the interior side it looked a bit weird Actually the letters are nicely fixed and I'm pleased with the result, even if, from a canonic point of view, I cheated. But anyway thanks for your advice Edited March 3, 2010 by BlueBard Quote

Anyway, you made a good job finishing that text. I had a lot of trouble coming up with a technique for making the letters for my sign in my western shop MOC (see sig.), eventually I settled with the Fire Brigade technique. Letters like R, K and N are really difficult but at least words like SHOP and LEGO can be spelled out. Edited March 3, 2010 by Etzel Quote
Loganwan Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I have to say BlueBard, it is the little things that really stand out with your designs. The first thing that popped out at me when looking through the pictures was the palm tree in the back. It looks like it has been sitting back there for a LONG time as it is tall, and growing away from the building. Always fun to see what you come up with. Thanks for sharing. Quote
BlueBard Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Thanks for your comments! But do you even have to use glue? It looks like those pieces would stay in place just by gravity if you treat them carefully, or am I wrong? Actually, just by "horizontal pression" they perfectly stay in place but as I've not many place for my MOCs by now I often move them and I prefered to stick those pieces a bit for "security" reasons Always fun to see what you come up with. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching! Quote

Just build a brickwall behind the sign and a glass wall in the front then you won't need any glue. Quote
BlueBard Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Just build a brickwall behind the sign and a glass wall in the front then you won't need any glue. Thanks for the advice, but I consider the glue trick much simpler Quote
